So, as xmas is rapidly approaching again, what are you guys gonna ask for? I'm trying to figure out what ideas I should throw out to my parents so I don't get a pair of socks this year.

A ps3 which I won't get so I dunno, that's what I'd like though, other than some tickets to see Paramore and Metallica in 2008, but they're not selling the tickets yet

I was thinking about asking for a DS, but I know I'll never use it. Don't have time really! I need to think of something for a person who spends all their time at work, commuting to/from work, or crashed out watching tele in the evenings. I'm thinking a projector, but they cost loads of money for a goodun!

Spore pre-order,
Massive bundle of games by Introversion (£50),
Maybe an MP3 player to replace my now thoroughly broken 20 gig one

(those are things I'd like but I only really expect to get one, which is the mp3 player)

Get a projector. Forget the money. I was never bothered until a friend of mine got one. Ordered one within a week (of constant research). Nothing like digging out those Star Wars and Indiana Jones DVDs and firing up the microwave popcorn. At the time (about 2 years ago) I got a 720p Sony projector for about £1500. Don't forget the screen though. I found very reasonable screens online and got a 104" manual screen with all the extra installation stuff for about £300. Oh, and ceiling mount of about £80. Installation for the whole lot was £100 (after I half demolished my wall...). And replacement bulbs are around £800. *BUT* it is totally worth it. Really.

Cheers

I don't really ask for stuff. I find it rude to ask for stuff, because I don't think you should expect to get stuff from people, but instead be happy if they do give you something. (And don't be grumpy if they don't.)

And if someone asks me what I wish, I usually don't know, anyway. :p

The most fun part of Christmas is, to me, seeing people open the presents I give them.

Only thing I can think to ask for within the price range is Wii Points Cards and clothes. We're already getting Gutar Hero 3 and Super Mario Galaxies for sure, so that's 2 games off the list. I just like to leave everything a surprise I guess. If all else fails they can get me a Newegg gift card or something. They know what I like.

A monkey with a banjo...

I don't know what I want really...some new music maybe? Some interesting books and old games that'll run on my computer - that's a point, Orange Box will work with my computer - I might ask for an ethernet card too, so I can use it at Uni, instead of connecting to the net here with this damn laptop.

As for the whole books stuff, I'm really getting interested in ancient epics and the history surrounding it, like Gilgamesh and Mesopotamia, the stories of Scandinavian culture etc. (I went as far as developing a semi-Norse English dialect for an opening I have to hand in tomorrow. 'Ve all caeld not sja') - I suppose my course is to blame for that.

Haha, no they don't... DIY

[EDIT]
As for pressy's... I don't particularly want that much.
Maybe some cash to get my tattoo finished, or a holiday around Europe with Contiki (basically, a massive pub-crawl )

Having said that, my parent's a bit stupid with gifts. I keep telling them I want a specific thing and nothing else (since I know they can't afford it), yet they end up spending at least twice as much on stupid things that I'll never use!

Oh well.

Well I'm going to ask for a new PC rig, I got mine in 2k, and can't play any new games. Also I'm going to ask for Medal of Honor : Heroes 2 and if I don't manage to snatch up Galaxy a copy of that too. But in the mean time I've been craving monkey ball, better dig up my banana blitz...

For the Wii? My friends worked on that game and everytime I walked by the desks with it running my jaw dropped. The graphics put it up there, in my opinion, as the second best looking game next to SMG.

Then ask for a projector screen. Get the projector yourself. Trust me on this one, until you see Star Wars and Guitar Hero on a projector screen then you haven't lived Fast cars, birds, football, and beer are the other requirements With your car you obviously live in my world of disposable money and credit cards

And yes, that sentimental post was about right. Sod the DS (I have two anyways) and a mountain of socks and IT equipment, I have one wish and it involves the words red, bird, and dress. Thats what I gather anyways

You can buy projectors these days for about £300, it needn't be the incredible money pit that it once was - I'm waiting till I find a bigger house before I get one, but it's on my list, I just bought a LCD TV instead.

Personally I'm looking forward to time off more than anything, 2 weeks off work is the best thing about xmas.

Yeah, but they tend to be rubbish. The one I got (Sony HS50) was rated better than a lot that came after it in it's category for a good while and was only a little more expensive than more budget type options (I'm talking £1000 Panasonic type mark. The sub £500 efforts really aren't worth it). Pretty sure it can be got for a little under a grand now. Although these days I would be eyeing up the 1080p devices for around £2k I believe. Niiiiceeee...

Still liking the projector idea! I would actually consider building one myself as Jeku suggested, but I couldn't justify spending £200-£300 on bulbs and lenses and stuff, without knowing for sure I could build something good. I like projects though, so I might try and find a how-to with exact parts, and then build my own. Otherwise, I'm really looking at a £700 one. I've been reading reviews and basically these days you can get ones that are good DVD quality with deep blacks that look decent in a dimly lit room, which is good enough for me. I'm moving house soon though, so will wait to see what my room/lounge will be like.

@Dazzag - I have a reasonable amount of disposable income, but I never know when I'm gonna be spending a crap load on my car. It has a tendency to suddenly throw a £700 service my way, as all the parts are so expensive. I'm thinking I might go for a Monaro next though. Never owned a muscle car before!

Yeah, there is nothing quite like your first £1500 ($3000) service. And mine had to be done bi-annually. That was a £2200+ year just for servicing. Great. As for Monaro, yep they are nice cars, but surely yours is a fair bit faster and can handle a hell of a lot better.

For me if it can fling itself around stupidely daft corners on a backroad at 100mph in pouring rain as seemingly easily as if you are driving a Focus Boringo at 30mph in the dry on a straight road, then thats number one. Being backwards in a hedge is not so good. I'd get an Exige but there seems to be a rather large number of people I know that have put them or Elises into ditches. Fair enough they are utterly amazing handling cars in the hands of elite drivers, but I never ended up in a ditch and I was a total moron.
