Wait wait I got a better one when checking my ninjasoft account.
Here it is:

Quote: "
FROM THE DESK OF MR USMAN BELLO.
BILL AND EXCHANGE MANAGER,
BANK OF AFRICA (B.O.A)
OUAGADUOGUO BURKINAFASO.

My Dear ,

I am mr Usman Bello, the manager of bill and exchange at the foreign remittance department Bank Of Africa. In my department we discovered an abandoned sum of US$14.5M (fourteen million five hundred thousand US dollars) in an account that belongs to one of our foreign customer who died along with his family in November 2003 in a plane crash on his way going to cotounou in the republic of BENIN . here it the web site of the plane crach for more details.
www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/africa/12/26/benin.crash

Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting his next of kin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release it unless some body applies for it as next of kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our banking guide lines and laws but unfortunately we learnt that all his supposed next of kin or relation died alongside with him at the plane crash leaving nobody behind for the claim.

It is therefore upon this discovery that I now decided to make this business proposal to you and release the money to you as the next of kin or relation to the deceased for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it and we don't want this money to go into the bank treasury as unclaimed bill.

The banking law and guidelines here stipulates that if such money remained unclaimed after eight years, the money will be transferred into the bank treasury as unclaimed fund.
The request of foreigner as next of kin in this business is occasioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner and a BURKINABE cannot stand as next of kin to a foreigner.

I agree that 45% of this money will be for you as respect to the provision of a foreign account , 5% will be set aside for expenses incurred during the business and 50% be for me.

Thereafter, I will visit your country for disbursement according to the percentage indicated. Therefore, to enable the immediate transfer of this fund to you as arranged, you must apply first to the bank as relation or next of kin of the deceased indicating your bank name, your bank account
number, your private telephone and fax number for easy and effective communication and location where the money will be transfer.

Upon receipt of your reply, I will send to you by fax or email the text of the application. I will not fail to bring to your notice that this transaction is hitch-free and that you should not entertain any atom of fear as all required arrangements have been made for the transfer. You should contact me immediately as soon as you receive this mail. Trusting to hear from you immediately.
Yours faithfully.
Usman Bello."

Because its so similer to the one xplosys got I used his reply.
Quote: "
Dear Sir,

Thank you for your consideration and contacting me. Your proposal is very interesting and I would be willing to assist you with the transfer for the consideration of 35% as you stated.

As you can imagine, I am concerned about the legality of this venture and would not want to place myself, and therefore my family, in any danger. Would you please expound on the venture so that I may know the full scope and procedures before I supply you with any of my information. Please also explain why you need my full address, as I am a little worried about giving that to someone I do not know.

I look forward to your next contact,

John."

Ah, I hope for the day when people like this will have to resort to selling their bodies on the docks to well endowed sailers If only everyone did scam baiting the world would be a happier place. Couple that with every virus and spyware writer's head on a bloody pole and it would be utopia.

Also there is always loads of companies advertised in the papers for crank calls. We have used a few in work. Normally they are the recorded variety with things like a bloke shouting out you for sleeping with his daughter etc, but some are actual proper people (like sex lines) pretending to be other people. Would be great if one of these companies setup a dedicated line for this type of scam. Even better if they had a list of names or something so they know exactly what to talk about when they phone. Ideas would be endless, but something like fake Interpol agent who then tells the bloke he is going down for 10 years with the evidence they have unless he wears a wire to stuff up his boss. Would be class, and you never know some might get arrested from it (convince them to go to police station for leniant sentence) Hmmm. Could be a brilliant way to make legitimate money from these scumbags I mean have you seen how much they charge per minute for these phone services?

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Rolf. Your a sick dude. I hope I never get on your bad side.

All of these letters seem like variations of a theme. If so many are using it, it must be working on a percentage of the time. Maybe 1 in 100,000? It seems like a lot of work but I guess one good payday is worth it. You sometimes hear about the old couple who was cheated out of thousands of dollars, but how many don't you hear about.

It would be nice to have an effective way to thwart these things, but if you did find a way, they would just change up the operation so your back at square one. At least we can have a little fun and slow them down while they respond to our game at their expense.

Best.

EDIT: I love the way they just happen to find millions of dollars that's unaccounted for. ( an abandoned sum of US$14.5M ) Maybe it's part of that 1.1 trillion dollars that the U.S. government misplaced a while back. LOL http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/missing_money/

I especially loved this part....

Yeah, I saw a documentary on this sort of thing. Mainly snail mail but same sort of ideas. Basically they do make a good living out of it (mainly old and dim people believe - especialy the broke ones). It is the reason they do it. Plus less danger (and probably jail time) than mugging or breaking into houses (and I bet it pays a hell of a lot better too).

And I don't think it's that much work. They probably have emails ready for a long list of different replies. And you work from home. How hard could it be? Sad but I'm betting true.

Quote: "It would be nice to have an effective way to thwart these things"
Mass emails to them should do it. Like millions. Especially good if you mix in some decent "Yes I will fall for your scam" replies. They won't know what to look for. But if the Lycos example (brilliant idea really) with spam and spyware sites is any example, then bleeding hearts and freedom of speech muppets will put a stop to it pronto. And probably chuck you in jail. Of course if the ISPs actually implemented the price per email idea they talked about years ago, then that would work too. I mean these people only succeed because they email millions of people and a very small percentage are fooled. But a very small percentage of millions is still a hell of a lot.

Cheers

He replied

Quote: "
Dear JOHN,

I am very happy to share this transaction with you. but you must keep everything as top secret and very confidential. The deceased account holder with our bank was MR ROLLAC American citizen who died with his entire family were among the victims of NOVEMBER 25, 2003 Air-Crash Incident in Benin, He held account number 0036101101 with our bank.Since his death ,his account has been dormant and nobody has applied to our bank for the release of this money to him or her as the next of kin.

As the bill and exchange manager of this bank, i have studied this transaction very carefully and i have noted that there is no risk involved.I am here to protect all your intrests in this transaction until this money hits your account. My advise to you is to arrange for a receiving bank account into which our bank shall transfer this money in your favor as next of kin and you have nothing to fear since i am here ,i shall be giving you all the developmental information from the bank as soon as the transaction commence. Also note that 14 working days from the date the bank receives your application is enough for the funds to get transferred and the transaction will come to a successful conclusion.

Dear, i hope that you will not disappoint me when this money enters into your account, i have all my hope in this transaction because i shall soon go on retirement, i am a simple banker whose credibility is still intact and with my maturity and understanding,I promise to give the best co-operation. If you are really intertested in this transaction, then we must hurry up so that our bank and government shall not claim and inherit this money because it has over-stayed.

As soon as I hear from you, I will send to you a text of application which you will fill and send to the bank. But before that I will like to be reassured of the manner of person whom I am dealing with because 14.5million U.S.D is not a little money, therefore I have to get certain necessary facts about you before we proceed. Such information I will like to know before we proceed are as follows:

(1) Your age.

(2)Your occupation

(3)Your marital stautus

(4)Your fullresidential address.

(5)Your direct phone and fax numbers.

(6)A copy of Your photo scanned and sent to me by mail.

as soon as I receive these datas, I will forward to you the application form which you will send to the bank. Meanwhile I will like you to know more about myself. I am a family man with 2 children a girl and a boy.I have decided to do this deal because i have worked in this bank for years without achieving anything due to the corruption in this country.Workers salaries are hardly paid. Its true this country is one of the poorest in the world but the leaders are very wicked and corrupt.Even the Aids we receive from Donor countries as well as the international communities are being diverted into the private pockets of the few in authourity.

Therefore while the rich are getting richer, the poor masses continues to suffer.Could you beleive a bill and exchange manager like myself can't even take good care of my children?I only have a name NOT money or any material possessions. So this is why when i saw this opportunity, i decided to capitalize on it with my position in the bank and i hope with your co-operation,success will be for us.

Pls always keep in touch with me, preferably by phone because i'm a very busy man who has little or no time for internets. So as i've told you i have studied and perfected this transaction before i contacted you. Finally it's very mandatory that you follow all my instructions to avoid any mistake in this transaction and you should not let the bank know about my involvement in this transaction.

As soon as the funds sucessfully transfer into your account, I will invest my share on technical pharmacist But please I want you to be very fast with this transaction So that within a very short time to fund will hits your account.

Call me 00226 76 56 43 07.
May Almighty Allah bless you.
Anxiously waiting to hear from you.
Best regards,
MR USMAN BELLO."
