i seriously loved this game from start to finish, at first i was a little sceptical about it being modern day and all, rather than ww2, but they really pulled it off, and it felt 'natural' , almost as if the COD series have always been modern day.
2 things however that bugged me (and please for the love of god somebody back me up on this first one because it really does stick out like a sore thumb)
why in god's almighty name does that SAS squad leader have that friggin early 1900's/Victorian mustache! is that what comes to mind when the designers try to make someone look British?
gaz however was a better attempt.
the second thing was the USMC squad leader (cant remember the names of these people) that had a VERY VERY grunty voice, as if he's been shouting all his life.
aside from those minor nit picks i found the game absolutely brilliant, i must have played the first level of the USMC invasion about 10 times just for the pure awesomeness of the level design.
i think the whole nuke thing may have been a bit overkill for 'modern war' but i guess it did show how serious the events are in the storyline and to build suspense...
perfect ending as well, instead of some stupid driving lesson like in Halo 3 there's actually some tension when you gotta
kill the main guy and two soldiers with the pistol
but COD has always been good with the 'last stand' scenarios, really adds emotion to the game
the secret mission at the end is pretty cool too, i could never complete it at the highest difficulty for the achievement, heh
im gonna go back to that Halo 3 point (although no one probably cares and likely just wants to discuss COD 4 so i apologise for bringing this up) but i have placed it in a code box to those who want to skip it
does anyone else think they totally jacked up the ending game play? it seems that the attention such an epic game needed to conclude a storyline for such a massive franchise was just thrown out of the window whilst they dedicated that time plus more to making more multiplayer features. they could have had some boss battle etc, a setting with *good* design, not just driving over what can only be described as a bunch of falling Lego pieces. *sigh*
it could have been so much better. That was the worst ending ever, its literally about as challenging as a training level.
anyway, sorry for that.
One big change i noticed with COD 4 from its predecessors was the fact that you didn't *need* to steal your enemies weapon and use it for the rest of the game, which has always been an annoying aspect from the old games (remember, taking the German mp40 over the Thompson just for the ammo? or perhaps the German rifle over the M1 garand, then again it might just be me.) but i found in COD 4 your weapon lasted throughout the whole mission in most cases, which rids that feeling that you need to scavenge weapons, and gives you a choice
