Hi,

Recently I've been using my copy of flash which i never really got into before. I found that there are lots of tutorials on the web, some helpful others not so much. However, Im just wondering, are there flash developers on this forum? If so, mind pushing me in the right direction?

Thanks

I use Flash at work for design, programming and minor animations. Flash is certainly one of the best programs ever created. If you have time, learn how to use it.

As you might know, Flash's base is vectorial illustration, animation and programming. Given that, you know how much advantage you may take. Before you decide to spend any money with training, join a Flash forum and visit sites containing didactic resources. Check what is and what is not for you right now. And learn things calmly.

Before you begin learning Action Script, learn basics of C-like programming. AS is an easy OOPL most of the time, and understanding the basic structures of C will contribute for a fluent learning, mainly if you are used to the comfort provided by Basic-like languages.

When you understand well how Flash's base works, you will decide what you will study in depth.

Cheers.

I use Flash for school projects. (I'm attending PTI for multimedia design)
What version of flash do you have? Cause if you have anything without ActionScript 3, (Which will probably be anything earlier than CS3) AND you're serious about making things in flash, Get a newer version that has ActionScript 3.
AS3>AS1&2.
Seriously. ActionScript 3 makes AS1&2 look like garbage. If you don't want to have to buy a whole new copy to upgrade, you MAY be able to find a patch from Adobe that will allow you to use AS3 in an older version of Flash.

BTW, I noticed that he called it MACROMEIDA Flash. Adobe bought and absorbed Macromedia a few years ago. Macromedia no longer exists and its called Adobe Flash now.
Just a pointless triviality I thought I'd point out.

...but I am the ferret king!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! tremble before my ferret minions!

i noticed this too. i have flash MX which was made by macromedia, and there isnt nearly as much on the internet about it that there is on adobe flash. so, i learned a lot of it on my own by trying things out. but, to point you in the right way, tweening is your best friend

yes, ive been working on it quite a bit lately. i plan to release a public alpha test in the next month or 2 because i did a successful private test a month ago. but, i need to optimize it a bit more, add item trading, and improve the chat system before i release it.

and i need to make a new sig. this one i made in 30 seconds because i didnt have any time to make a good one, but i haven't changed it in like 4 months

ya I realize the mistake...I'm just used the Macromedia because I used to use Dreamweaver MX 2004 a lot back when it still was Macromedia..surprisingly I never noticed it all changed until now..strange...

those both look really nice zzz. A rather silly question I have, how did you get the flash menu bar to link to pages on an otherwise html site? Sadly, I can't figure out how :S

I use getURL("url", "target");. Note, this is AS2, I have no experience with AS3.
With target you can target a specific HTML-frame and/or use one of the following predefined targets:

_self specifies the current frame in the current window.
_blank specifies a new window.
_parent specifies the parent of the current frame.
_top specifies the top-level frame in the current window.

Look in the help files for more info on getURL.
