Apparently, someone out there thinks Guitar Hero is worthy of being validated as a proper musical skill. Joining this year's lineup at Isle of Wight will be
two performances of Guitar Hero. Sharing the stage with such legends as The Police, The Stranglers, The Sex Pistols, Iggy and the Stooges, and newer groups like the Kaiser Chiefs, Starsailor, and NERD. The Isle of Wight is one of the most iconic music festivals of all time... so it's a bit surprising they're doing this.
I figured I'd post this and see what you all think of it. Personally, I think it's a travesty. Seriously, Guitar Hero is a game. If you play it for fun, cool, enjoy the game. But in the end, being good at Guitar Hero is
not real skill
. It's a cute publicity gimmick, but seriously, Isle of Wight? I can't even name all of the absolutely massive groups and artists who've played at Isle of Wight in the past forty years. Off the top of my head, let's see... The Who, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, T. Rex, Jefferson Airplane, and The Doors come immediately to mind. More people went to the 1970 Isle of Wight concert than Woodstock a year earlier (it was so big, Parliament passed an act to prevent concerts of that scale on the island without special permission). Maybe I'm over-reacting, but at least you know it's me whose posting this, lol. But this will end up giving validation to hardcore Guitar Hero fans who think they'll get somewhere in life playing that game. As an actual musician, I don't think they should get to
. What's next, A group "performing"
Rockband at Knebworth House? lol now that I said it...
