Hi all,

So lately I've made a bit of a change in my hobby, and I've found to enjoy it very much. Yes, I'm talking about a real guitar Started playing 7 months ago and been practicing quite a lot. I then started to practice playing one of my favorite songs, which is Guns N roses version of knocking on heavens door. Here it is (my cover):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXqNnZIWr2Y

Thought it would be nice to get some kind of feedback so well, hope you enjoy^^ Made a mistake in the start of the second solo but oh well Also, the part I play after the second solo isn't from the actual song, it's something I made up myself. Gotta learn to use the scales at one point or another.

I don't know how many around a programmers forum have any interest in guitars, but if anyone cares, this is the gear I'm using (all brand now):

Guitar: Epiphone les paul honey burst
Amp: Vox AD50VT
Pedal: Vox footswitch pedal

I'm not sure whenever this should be here in geek culture, or if it should be in the music board. Following the descriptions I just thought this would fit the best as the music board kinda states it's for music in and for games. But I don't, so the mods will have to make the decision! So easy to put all the decision on the mods!

Anyway! Hope you'll enjoy.

Great cover for only 7 months, man I'm impressed with how cleanly you play.

Good gear, too. The Les Paul is going to be my next guitar purchase.

In fact this one right here.

It's going to join my Dean acoustic, schecter damien 6, and my favorite:

The Hell Kitty.

And yes, that is a hand-crafted chain mail guitar strap.

Knowing when you started and how you've progressed, I'd say you're coming along pretty well. One thing I must stress when recording is getting the tuning perfect before you start, as I've noticed it can be a little off sometimes. This is very important to me, as my ears are pretty sensitive and it's almost painful to hear a guitar that is even slightly out of tune.

Another thing I'd suggest is working on vibrato, as it can add a lot of feel to even simple melody lines. Nice guitar tone, by the way.

Sounds very good, especially for only playing 7 months! Wow!

As Benjamin said, the main weakpoints are lack of vibrato and the guitar is slightly out of tune. If it were in tune, I might have confused it for the real thing! Great job!

Thanks a lot for the comment! I'll have to watch the tuning next time around!

Actually I had tuned it a little while before recording (using an electric tuner), but it must have went a little out of tune in the period of time, just gotta tune right before recording in the future I think it's mostly the G string acting up in this recording

Thanks for the comment!

I'm gonna record me playing the first 3 minutes of sweet child o' mine very soon (I got most of the licks and slow soloes down, just haven't learned the last part of the last slow solo yet). The reason as to why it's only gonna be the first 3 minutes... well... the last solo would kill me for sure But the first 3 minutes got some cool sounding licks and soloes and it's just one of those songs that just feels good playing Unfortunately I have an appointment with the dentist tomorrow... (which will take some time away from my practicing ) -_- I was at a check last month were nothing was wrong, but guess what, they forgot to check something.. Clever, clever.

Great man, I first started playing when I was a kid, but never really stuck at it - so I'm crap, to think my first guitar was a really nice Ibenez. I probably couldn't even play that song properly, I might actually pick up a music book or get lessons again (I only bothered to 3 off of my Dad)

Hehe, actually it's quite the same here. When I picked up the guitar for about 7 months ago my mom mentioned that I actually have had a guitar before and played a bit... although the only thing I remember is the slight interest I had, but I must have lost it quickly again This have been at a very young age though, so haven't really helped me anything

Well if you enjoy playing I would deffinately recommend lessons Although I don't have that much experience in this area I do have some. Me and a mate started to take lessons very quickly after starting up, and so far I can only recommend it. Especially when just starting out, because it'll clear up most question you got when starting up, and also you'll learn right away how to do certain basic things/techniques that's important for any further progress you make (and you'll also get rid of any eventually bad habbits that you develop when playing the guitar on your own).

sounds good. I've never been able to play any instrument(well, I do know how to play Dueling Banjos... but most people find that annoying)

Well, it would actually be a banjo recording.

I heard a while back that the definition of a gentleman is someone who can play the banjo, but doesn't.
