Alien: Nostromo takes place after Alien, plays out during Aliens to prequel Alien 3. You play as one of four marines that check out Ripley's story of destruction of the Nostromo. I have provided screenies based on test for the atmosphere for the ship, but is work in progress none the least.

Looks really nice, although I would suggest darkening the colour of the rifle. I seem to recall them being a darker shade of green.

The gun reminds me of a stapler (idk why )

That makes me want to kill aliens. With a stapler. Anyways, nice screenshots, cant wait to play!

As you can see, yours is just a little too lime-green.

wow! compared to the model, your gun looks really good!
one thing i would suggest though, is that the contrast between the quite heavily textured grey/black parts and the green parts is quite stark, you might want to try making them blend into each other a little bit.
but hey, it's just a thought, and it look's great.

Im very impressed with what you have and heere are some of what i felt playing it

Good:
the level felt solid with interesting moments
the aliens were very good
much of what you had i could see in an alien film
the radar was a nice aesthetic even though it didn't really work

Bad:
the atmosphere of the films wasn't there, it should have been darker
the weapon didn't seem real enough

some have greatness thrust upon them - W. Shakespeare

ok, played it, and...

PROS
:the general combat was good, i liked the way the aliens seemed to come out of holes in the wall.
:mapping was good.
:general gameplay was good.

CONS
:the gun... it looks great, but the firing animation isn't to good.
:some of the doors led to space, if you want them to be closed, make them static.
:It was hard to find your way around, and it was WAY to bright, and not particularly scary.

Played it and I found it has a refreshingly different feeling from the usual zombie-bunker games (which I stil like noentheless )

Good things:
- The hud is great!
- The gun is very well done including the sound
- Lag-free
- The facehugger appearance is well scripted

Room for improvement:
- The left hand looks a bit stretched (texture as well as the bones )
- The facehuggers have problems pathing (more open space needed)
- to much light, definitely

PS: If you want to avoid, that the sound from a trigger zone gets played everytime the PC enters the zone, do this: Make a trigger zone without sound + a sound zone in the same place = sounds plays once.

In case you find my grammar and spelling weird ---> native German speaker ^^

Sorry, been working late the last few days. Today was a rain day, so I saw I had some comments. Storyteller, glad you liked it. The left hand is stretched and the bones are not. There are less bones in the hand due to the fact I got in a hurry, meaning one finger and one thumb bones. I didn't like the animation but the new weapon is far better. The lights and trigger sound is just for test purposes, making sure everything works right. Pathing, I understand and I am working on it, problem is if I let these guys go with no obstacles, the player we be dead real fast. They push the player up the wall and you cannot shoot them. With alittle drag they seem to work ok. Right now I am taking Rolfy's advice and buidling the level in blender to bake the textures and lightmaping to add to the game. When I complete this I will of course, show it off. Until then, more comments. I realize that I already know most of the problems, but it doesn't mean I don't want to hear about them. Thanks and keep watching for more on Tales of Interest.

I recently had a computer meltdown and so I must start from scatch. I did seem to saved some of the files before the meltdown, but not enough for what I was doing. I hope to have more to show you all later this weekend.

very nice gun you've got there.

EDIT: I would recommend you move the gun down and a bit to the left over what it was before. That way the player can see better.

Gun looks a little stretched height wise.
(From the MS3D picture).

Also the origins could do with being a little more down, and a little more to the left.

Yes The weapon is stretched due to trying to put in a 800x600 jpg for people to see. Otherwise it would be 1280x720 jpg. I went out and grabbed a new monitor that is 23" widescreen and sure does make a big difference on making game models and stuff. Now just to hook up two more and we'll be in business. Well, back to working on the m41a.

Ok, I thought I would try to make water to go in one of my levels and I wanted something other than a decal, so I tried the red eye and hockey kid's thing and I missed something. As you can see in the screenie, the water shader is not working. All of my other shaders are working, even the custom ones, but this one is not working for me. I saw that others have and thought that since this is part of my work in progress I would just ask "What is my problem here?" I did a test of 30 frames in blender for the water in the level and it works, but this looks just as good and easier. Help would be nice, Thanks.

It must be dynamic mate.

Do you use Vanilla 1.15 FPSC? Use Apple Juice Mod! Totally free, and gives better speeds for your game!

Thanks apple slicer, but they are dynamic. When you download dark hazards pack the are already dynamic, at least for me they were. If you make them static they just disappear. I changed the transparency, the texture and still no results. But just to be clear the water in the pic is dynamic. I have a test map made just for the water. been messing around with it for days, but thanks again.

I could really use some help on the water thing. I hope I didn't come off rude in my earlier post, cuz that was not my intention. This just baffles me why it works for everyone else and not me. Is there another water shader that I am not aware of?

Ok I found a water script by evolved that works, but you can't see the floor as you do in the other one. So why does this almost work and the other does not and how do I get both to work for me.

WATER.FX by EVOLVED

PLEASE NOTE: FULL SHADERS ARE ON, ALL OBJECTS ARE DYNAMIC EXCEPT FOR SEGMENTS, AND ONE LIGHT SOURCE

Its alright man. Keep your game going. Just ignore the people that bring you down. I like the recreation of the movie. Talk on MSN? I can help you with lighting, or whatever.

Oh, and dont look at me for ignoring people like that. lol.

Thanks Apple Slicer and Coach Shogun. I took sometime to work on other projects and decided that this game was to far along to just walk away from it, but due to the drug induced coma I have been in for the last two weeks not much was down on it(just for the kids out there, don't do drugs, unless you have a surgical operation to save you life then it is ok). I have and will continue to work on this game. For those of you that would like to have the pack that I made with the terminator and robocop in it just email me and I will send the link to you. Just put terminator in the subject line, so I won't delete it. I plan to have more updates on this game sometime this week. Later for now.

Great to hear about the game, not so much about the coma. Even if its for a life-saving operation make sure not to O.D. or get addicted (just another friendly warning for people)

I thought I would do a small update on this while I was thinking about it. I have been re-doing alot of modeling on the characters and other items for this game. I also been working harder on the textures and animations of the characters, so that no one will be disappointed in playing this game. The aliens themselves are turning out better than I was expecting, but I won't show them off just yet. I am making the levels in blender, using rolfy's advice on texture baking, and they are looking alittle bland at the moment, so I am working on that. The story line has been redone , but is still sticking to the original idea in the first post, it is just a deeper and better story. The cutscene are looking larger and larger. I also am making I think some of the first in-game animatics for fpsc, or atleast I haven't seen any before. I hope this will make for a more dramatic gameplay. Although I did have a problem with exporting my animated characters from milkshape to fpsc. I fixed that by reverting back from 1.8.5 to 1.8.2 and now everything is working again. There must be a bug that won't export right. Well, that's it for now I will post some screenies here soon, but you will not see any aliens in them unless I just can't help myself.

So, it's been awhile since I last posted on this. I have been working on this and two other games. While alien: nostromo will not be a commercial app, my other two will be, so, I have taken time off this week to work on these to games and resting on alien: nostromo for a while until the other two are done. However I have remade the eggs, facehuggers, aliens, marines and a few other stuff to make a better game. I just found out that blender now has a projection uv paint and it made my weapon look beautiful. Sorry, I will not show it off just yet, but I will show you what I am doing. The two games I am making is in blender, I have only the pics for one of them right now.

Here is the title screen:

And here is a couple of in game screenies:

I had a dream about this game last night for some reason xD It had the films music and everything!

You should make the aliens themselves pretty tough like in the film, perhaps forcing the player to run away instead of killing them all. The aliens managed to take out almost an entire squad of marines in the film. If you can create that same sense of hopelessness throughout this game it will be very good indeed. ;D

I had the exact same water problem as you. I think it was something to do with my graphics card (Nvidia Geforce 5600). Anyway, it now works on my new computer.
