Hi Guys, Sorry I've been out of touch for a while. I just today got my OS reloaded and got back online.

Man, WTF!! I got jacked by some jerks trying to sell, of all things, Anti-virus software. The Thing hacked my firewall turned off my anti-virus, and blocked all access to my system, and clearly stated: "Your machine is infected, To fix your computer, Purchase our Software".

What kind of crap is that. They infect your computer, to show you that it can be done, and then want you to pay to fix what they did in the first place.

Well, from now on, I'm not putting my PC back online at all. I'll use my Mac for internet access. These internet crooks are getting out of control.

I lost a bunch of stuff, from the pack, but still have the original models, without textures. Sorry guys, this is going to take a little longer that expected to finnish, But I will continue to keep you updated as progress is made.

I've developed a new philosophy... I only dread one day at a time.

I got the same thing.
Is it something like vista antispyware 2010? it is HIGHLY dangerous, here is a link of how to remove it.
ALSO if you did purchase it DONT let it remove anything!!!
http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-vista-antispyware-2010.html

BE VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE IT OR YOU WILL RUIN YOU COMPUTER!!!
It is highly dangerous software though and NEEDS to be removed or it will RUIN your computer!!
Also it goes under all sorts of names, and they have xp and windows 7 versions too.
If it does mess something up then buy Paretologics file cure. i had to and it worked good.
Good luck!

In the mean time if everything else fails, piggyback the hard disk, put a new system on a separate disk, use that one to boot from, attach the messed up disk, then transfer the date from the old wrecked disk to the new one, that's how you can save data when things get bad.

Sorry to hear that cosmic. I hope you were not using mcafee or the AV that shall not be named *Cough norton* if you need a good AV I would invest into Kaspersky 2010. It updates at least 3 times a day and has a 98% torjan detection and deletion. One of the most advanced for civilian use. It also has a large database for sites like that. Along with SSL encryption on all your TCP/ip connection from point A - B along with built in advanced fire wall. See AV's like norton want your computer to become infected... why? because then they make 100$ when their tech's connect to your computer to remove the virus. It's all about money. However kaspersky's tech is free. Never let me down for the years I have used it.

Thanks for the tips guys. Stuff like this just ticks me off, ya Know?

It just seems that as soon as they make updates to protect folks from this sort of thing, someone else comes up with a new way to screw with people.

I just cant understand how some people can be so damn heartless. Just for a buck.

Well, I'm going to shut up , and stop ranting. It's just gonna get me mad.

this is a commoon scam started in 2008 called "AV09"

it was recently sold to a russian company who sold it to a bunch of other companies. no antivirus software is infallible against it, but it is rather easy to clean provided you take preventative maintenance to have the right tools.

AV09 has the same chance of being caught on disneychannel.com as it does on [MOD EDIT: You should know better than to supply links to certain sites, yes, I've only just caught this but consider yourself slapped], because it comes through infected adverts, usually on popular pages. I get it all the time, get used to it guys.

the preventative measures you should take are:

1. download "Rkill" this will kill your processes and tell you where you have got it (look for random letters folders or any executible with av in it, or sftav at the end.) (basically anything in application data or local settings that looks like it would be associated with antivirus software)

2. download "combofix" that runs a 50 or so part scan on your computer and gets rid of it almost every time

in the event you are already infected:

not much can be done. usually, this virus will stop your internet from cinnecting. to fix this, go to internet options> tools> and then disable proxy server. the way that the virus stops the connection is by putting you on a proxy server. If you want to do it this way you can try to download Rkill and rid yourself of the virus by simply throwing it out, but you will get far too annoyed by it reconnecting to proxy server once you start to go to download combo fix.

you can try going to "run" and then typing "msconfig" and changing it from being a startup program. it will usually be somewhere in doccuments and settings having something to do with antivirus vocab (or ending with sftav and beginning with 4 random letters) warning, this has only worked 3 of 5 or so times I've got it. (considering I go out of my way to get infected just to see if my methods are still proven)

@ cosmic prophet- sorry I couldn't respond in time, I hope this helps when you get it in the future.

I got something similar. (Personal Antivirus) Not as crippling, but it blocked sites like google. Very annoying. I managed to get rid of it myself using online guides with no extra expenditure.

So stay strong. Hopefully you will get all your stuff back.

Hi guys. OK, I just got finished loading everything back up, and did an inventory. Turns out I only lost 4 buildings, and the road segments. I'm going to start on those today, and get them back in the pack.

Sorry for the delay my friends. Jeez, all this trouble, just because I wanted a few new screen savers

I'm heading to the Doctor tomorrow. With luck, I should be getting these stupid splints off my hand. Then it will be full steam ahead, at Cosmic speed.

Team members: Will be sending you some stuff this week. Thanks guys.

That REALLY sucks CP! Very sorry to hear that. Not that this will help now but I run AVAST and Spyware Terminator. Between the two they have caught everything. They are ram hogs but when I am not online I shut them off. Also AVAST can do a boot scan and they update their database several times a day. Both programs are free and I recommend them to everyone I know. You may already have known about these but thought I'd pass it on anyway.
good luck,
merlin

p.s. I don't do screensavers ever

CP, while I appreciate the opportunity to test what seems a fantastic pack, I'm a bit wary as you've had a virus. I have lots of things from work on my machine and these get transferred to and from works machines and if there's any chance of virus's I'm afraid I'll have to pass on the testing.

AV09 won't infect models. AV09 is one executable located in application data. truse me, it won't infect the models. it's a "fake" virus.

I don't think there will be any problems my friend. The stuff I lost, was on the internal hard drive of my PC. It was the stuff I had made game ready, and installed in FPSC for testing. ( I have a larger video card on the PC ) That's the stuff I lost. And it's Gone forever. I didn't want the risk of possible reinfection either.

I'm not that savvy when it come to this kind of thing, so I just trashed everything, repartitioned, and formated my PC, and reloaded everything from my external ministack drive.

All the rest of my FPSC stuff is still on my IMAC safe, and sound. Although, it is the original .obj files, and I need to get them all game ready again.

That's the reason for the delay. I have to redo all of that stuff to get back to where I was, when this crap happened.

But If your still worried, I understand completely. Just let me know.

I got the splints off today. Yeah! Doc said it was a little early but I was healed up pretty good, and I have to start exercising the fingers. OUCH! God they are so stiff. But I can hold my mouse right again.

Anyway, I should have these models redone in a day or two, then I can get busy on the rest.

Completed:

Main Street.
The City Park.
The main Plaza
Streets, And Sidewalks.

In Progress:

Buildings
Vehicles
The Train Station
Various Street Props
The Airport

Will have some new screens for you soon!
