Hi Anayar, would you be able to make a model of a medical type display screen. It needs to be wall mounted, about 2 segments wide by roughly 2 thirds of a segment high.

I've attached a concept drawing (sorry for my poor sketching skills). If possible, I need it to be illuminated, like a hospital x-ray light-up display.

If it's not possible for you, that's ok. If it is possible, I would be very gratefull indeed

(Edit) Sorry, I didn't say what colours. White or pale grey for the frame of the display screen. Blue for the illuminated display screen itself, with pale blue outlines for the display images/text. Thanks!

I game therefore I am.

Anayar, that's fantastic! There's only one minor thing I would like changed, and that is to have six of the small sub-displays on either side of the main display, but leave the odd one next to the figure's head, thanks. Other than that, that is pretty much exactly how I imagined it in my head. Great job as usual!

Just one question; will I need to use an illuminationent.fx file, or does it already have one with it?

I game therefore I am.

OK, no problem, I know what it's like when you're trying to get things done, but 'outside interferance/external influences' prevents you from achieving anything!! It's a pain in the butt!

anayar mate I just downloaded that medic screen you made for bruce. I know it's a bit cheeky of me doing that, as it was made for bruce, but I wanted to set it up for self illumination for him.

I think you may have problems in the long run with your texture naming and especially your texture sizing.

Regarding naming - it's not really a good idea to use "." within filenames "medicalscreen.xscreen.png", "medicalscreen.xgrey.jpg" etc can cause problems.

Regarding texture sizing - Not keeping to the square texture rule can really effect certain gfx cards. The matrix overlay texture is 2000 x 1500 which is a monitor screen resolution like 1024x768 and not a square resolution. Plus it's a lot of gfx ram to use up for a small entity (in my opinion at least) added to the 1024x1024 grey texture (which to be honest could have been 128x128, as it is just grey, or better still applied into the matrix one to make it square in a single UV Map)

Disclaimer:

Please note I am not in anyway trying to insult you, or bruise your ego, or imply your models are not quality, or imply your not skilled, or anything else that may or may not be read into my comments above. I am just pointing out a few points in the hope it will aid you in the future and nothing more than that.

Alright Nbt, I'll answer you're question in parts

Quote: "anayar mate I just downloaded that medic screen you made for bruce. I know it's a bit cheeky of me doing that, as it was made for bruce, but I wanted to set it up for self illumination for him."

The models here are for everyone... If people want it exclusive then they can request it that way. If you do add self illumination, I request you to post it here for everyone to use

Quote: "Regarding naming - it's not really a good idea to use "." within filenames "medicalscreen.xscreen.png", "medicalscreen.xgrey.jpg" etc can cause problems."

Sorry mate, that is the naming format of Sketchup... Nothing I can do about it
I will uv map this one, because I want to get better at it and let you know how it works out

Quote: "Regarding texture sizing - Not keeping to the square texture rule can really effect certain gfx cards. The screen was created large so that I could scale down and preserve detail, rather than scale up and lose detail... I just forgot to resize it . I will change sizes and reupload the model by Tom. Thanks for letting me know...

Look man, there is a world of difference between calling some peoples models quality and others crap, and giving me constrictive critisism. I'm not stupid to not accept feedback from people better than me, and to act on it... I can only thank you for letting me know my mistakes

If you do manage to give the model self illumination, can you send me an email telling me how you did it?? I've been trying to figure it out and it would really help me in the future

Cheers,
Anayar

Hi Anayar, I have a small confession to make. I've placed the medical screen into my game and it looks awesome, it really does, thanks!

However, I've been doing a little bit of tinkering with it, and I made a small change to the texture, so that it is more in line with the concept drawing I did.

Also, I didn't know that Nbt was trying to set up self illumination of it for me, so I did my tinkering independantly of him doing his. I hope you don't mind.

Anyway, here is the new, modified texture for you. As you can see, the only change I made, was to make it a bit more symmetrical. The idea is that in the room it is placed in, there are 6 stasis tubes down each side, therefore, I needed 6 of the smaller sub displays down each side of the main screen.

Please don't think that by doing this, I think your model isn't up to scratch, far from it! I think you did a great job with it. I just needed to customise it slightly to make it better fit in with my game level.

Finally, when my game is eventually completed, you will still get full credit for the model.

I game therefore I am.

Bruce, Ive said it once, I'll say it again- Feel free to edit any of my models and textures in anyway you wish! I do not take offense to people customizing the model to their own needs, I just don't want people to claim the model as their own

You really don't need to be so polite to me you know ... And I know you dont think my model is not up to par !

Anayar

Quote: "I'm not stupid to not accept feedback from people better than me"

anayar mate never consider me better than you lol

The main reason for my comments are because your building up a model pack and it's best to get any possible niggles out the way before you release it.

Quote: "If you do manage to give the model self illumination, can you send me an email telling me how you did it?? I've been trying to figure it out and it would really help me in the future"

The main reasons you can't get self illumination working is your use of multiple textures (so FPSC has nothing in the texture location line to feed to the shaders I guess) and the naming scheme of your texture, as the shader requires at least a _D/and or D2 texture to start with and then it can find the others it requires from that.

Once you get your Milkshape 3D and start UV Mapping you will have no problems

Quote: "Tanya wrote: I am a motivator...Not a Terminator."

Now that is just spookey, as I had just watched terminator before posting this reply

I know you've said to feel free to modify your models and textures any way we see fit, but seeing as you're the original artist so to speak, it's only right and proper that people (including myself) let you know what changes they have made.

As for being so polite, again, I feel it's only right and proper to be polite to someone who is good enough to freely give of his time and skills, to make such excellent models for nothing. Politeness costs nothing as my parents always used to tell me!

I game therefore I am.

Sorry it took me so long.

If its not too much, I would like 2 types of train:

-A simple flat-bed train cart, just slightly longer than a shipping container, so I can put one on it.

-And a 'tram' style car sorta like this

only with open doors at each end so the player can move between them.

EDIT: WHOA that picture is huge! is there any way to hide it?

See what I mean by 'big' now?

Yeah, It was me... :3

I like you, your easy to impress LOL!

As to releasing as my own. Nah mate even copying someone elses concept and worse using part of their texture is no different than plagiarising their work in my books. So I won't release as mine

I'm strange like that, hell I don't even like building a script based on another (except stock one :p ) most times lol

That's why I sent the model only to you, so you can chose to supply it to bruce, as in the end it is still your model

Bruce: Ill post it later today... I'm not home right now (I love how starbucks has free wifi ). It will not have the updated texture, but all you have to do is cut out that area of the UV map and paste (and scale) in your edited screen. If you have problems feel free to post it here or to email me

There is an overlay included for that very reason, so you can slap your edited body display into it and still keep the depth\bevel shading etc.
