Might want to post screen shots of what you have so far. People round here are very suspicious of 'companies' planning huge MMORPGs because 99% of them fail.

Posting screens quells those fears

it sounds like they haven't done anything yet and its at the "ideas" stage, which is fine but not really WIP material without screenies..

As the years roll on, I'm firmly of the opinion that we should have a special forum for anyone in any way wanting to do anything involving MMORPGs.

The forum should have rubber walls, a large collection of children's toys and the Mods will have to wear white suits.

Work In Progress threads should contain at least some information about the project which is worth reading.

This can be in any of the following forms:

- Screenshots
- Playable Demo (of the game, or a related tech demo etc.)
- Artwork / Concept Drawings / Game Media
- Code

These are rough guidelines, other sensible posts will be allowed.

EDIT: Its nearly Christmas so I had a change of heart - I have decided not to lock the thread for now - just post some sensible info soon.

No, really, Philip has a point. Can there me a forum devoted to MMORPG? It is quite funny reading them, but I don´t think they really know where to post such stuff (hence why this is here).

lets lock the thread and throw away the key, cause anyone who is trying to create a mmorpg needs to be either:
shot
thrown in to a soft room which they can't get out of

Why? MMORPGs are possible, just maybe not when created by only one person and totally in DBPro.

Yup. It's the summer break and the only things I can do are: code(inital codes got done really fast and then I'm bored), play some of my games(most I am bored of, some are fun if I had the will to start them), download some game and play it(doing this), play flash games.

Well,Well I see that their are many responses to my post so Ill try to answer some questions.

1. I have started development on this project but becouse I wish to keep this on a low profile until I get decent Screenshots I will not post any, though soon, about within a week I plan to realese screenshots.

2. So my spelling was a bit off a? well, I think I have a decent excuse, here it comes, Im twelve!

3. A little shocked? Well with all the people getting into this industry its not so shocking and my expirience should not be doubted. Why, you may ask? Well at the age of six I started HTML, quite easy in my opinion. At 10 years of age a started C programming, I am influenced quite a bit from my father who is a Engineer and knows quite a bit about software. ( he knows Fortran,C,C++,and easiest of them all,Basic.I chose Dark basic in the fact that it offered game making opertunities in which were faster then C.

4. My Site is just as I posted on my first anouncement.

http://members.aol.com/jrcdrummer/index.htm

5. I've Already got a server inline to run and by the way, to those of you who still think I am not capable, well I have two websites In which I am desighning for two people. Like I said HTML is not a big achievement, but it was a start. And it rakes in some Mulah.
(Im the Geek at school, that helps explaining a little)

6. Hope that answers your questions. And I will get those screen shots by the end of the week.

Edit the stupid 9's...

I'd say that for having 6 years of html experience you don't seem to have a very nice looking website.

How long have you been using dark basic for?

Do you like cheese?
If "No" Why Not?

But I hope you get somthing made in this MMORPG, so that when you hit the brick wall you can have something to put in your next game.

Hello Once Again Its Me. I see that Most MMORPG games fail, and I do see the errors in DARK BASIC Pro, but what I cant find out is why no one on this forum seems to know that you can make one aplication with more then a single language. I also would like to know if perhaps any one on this site is a C programer, Im sure there are quite a few. But the reason I am posting this is to anounce that I will post screenshots from my beta control system Version 0.1. Since I've completed thease I will post some screen shots and storyline in the game. My friend constructed a site on a certain "freewebs.com" and though the spelling is a little off "im not one to acuse) I feel his sight has a good layout (I guess HTML is out of favor thease days) you can see his sight at:

http://www.freewebs.com/sagetechti/index.htm

by the way i wasnt exactly thrilled about the MMORPG im more of a sim maker but it is a change of pace and my fiends wanted it.

OK, If you must know my site is not spiffed up becouse im out of ftp sapce (my dad owns a big site and use my acounts!)im completely out off ftp space! there is your answer and I started DARK BASIC Pro about 3 months ago, But its easier compared to other basic suchs as Qbasic and pure basic. And being called a "noob" is not apriciated as i have expirience in other languages becise this simplistic one. (p.s i Mr Bully, I dont think it would be wise to beat me up)

u've used to dbpro for 3 months? your twelve? you want to make a mmorpg? in dbpro?

*hits head repeatedly off table until concussion sets in then carries on for the sake of it*

why not create an fps or an rpg before you set out on a mmorpg, anyways if you want to create a good mmorpg it takes time, if you are going to use a winsock dll for the multiplayer part then go on, i just, and i think many people here, feel doubtful towards the completion of this project because we have seen many people come, start a mmorpg project, find out how hard it is, then disappear of the face of the earth

mmorpg are difficult and i think many people here who know dbpro like the back of their hand would not set out on a mmorpg due to the difficulty and time involved

Sorry, I wet myself with the replies from the "Admin"

Yes, I have C experience. 15 years of it.

Why on God's Little Green And Blue Planet would you want to use DBPro to make a MMORPG when you can use your C knowledge and use the Dark Game SDK which, as you mentioned:

Quote: " but what I can’t find out is why no one on this forum seems to know that you can make one application with more then a single language"

I believe you may be mistaken. I would happen to guess that most of the people believe that, which is why we write plugins and such. The difference is that we understand what is involved in a MMORPG, which is why we make fun of people. There is a sticky thread by a moderator that says "Before you post about a MMORPG".

Tell you what. You want to make it, and prove us all wrong. Do this *simple* program. Should take you about 2 days to do.

Using DBPro (HAHAHHAHAHA, sorry), make a simple Client/Server connection. Create a plain (plane) for your floor, add about 10 cylinders randomly around on top of the plain (plane) floor for columns. Create a "sphere" with a different color for each of the Clients that enter your game. Move the sphere around and have the other Clients move around and then update the positions by posting it to the server. Don't even put in collision detection.

As I stated... simple... to the point. Everything else is just fluff.

Now, I wrote this in about a day, but I have a little more exp than you. Do that simple little exercise and I personally would help you out.

P.S.
When you type something, copy and paste it into Word (or whatever Word Processor you have) and use the spell check. THEN post the corrected version back into the Post Forum Message box.

P.P.S.
Sorry, but I have shoes that are older than you.

Thank you for responding to my question and I respect a C programmer any day, as it is a more complex langauge, to me anyway, well I have a screenshot but it might not come out right, hmm we'll
see.

Kid your twelve its even illegal to call yourself a company when your not. It requires money, time and experienced people to produce a half decent mmorpg you have none of these. You cant say just because you understand c and have a few months experience with dbpro that you know what your doing. We have some very experienced programmers here some have gone onto work on commercial projects so dont even think about calling us inexperienced. As a programmer you should know that coding a mmorpg is not possible by a few people and is no simple task.
