W00t for Jazz & film composers.
If you can find it on itunes or something, look for "Huntin Wabbits" by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, really cool jazz piece.

dude , linkin park is considered alternative rock , not a plain old screeching rock band . as ive posted before , hiphop(dj scratches , techno bits , cool sound loops -DJ Joe Hahn)+ rock(heavy jamming , nice (now keep it down and low for a while) parts (listen to one step closer after second chorus) ) = LP

I agree, Linkin Park does something different, and I respect that.

I like Greenday espcially the early stuff. Linkin Park are okay, Hybrid Theory is the best they did though, and I ony really like that because it was the best out of the slew of bad 'Nu'-Metal pop bands that came out at that time (Papa Roach and Limp Bizkit for example) [edit] I should mention that when I'm very drunk or stoned in a room by myself listenning to most of Hybrid theory puts me in a paranoid / edgy / slightly scared state which I find quite cool at the time!

Good Charlotte have some catchy tunes that get in my head, but they don't sound any more credible than Busted or McFly really if you listen to them objectively. Its good music, but its Pop played with electric guitars. Infintiely preferabl but similar to Gopod Charlotte would be Blin 182 or even Sum41 in my eyes...

If I'm going to listen to metal / punk I prefer it to be harder or more original on the whole, but out of those you mentioned Greenday is easily the best over all imo. I think Simple Plan are over-rated. But thats just my opinion people are entitled to theirs

Never really listened to simple plan much, but every once in a while that i decide to, they seem pretty damn good. I still say Muse is one of the all-time best bands though. Their music is just..."different".

I'm not 14, so I won't comment on the four bands Currently I have several Sisters of Mercy albums revolving like nobodies business on my MP3 player, plus the Natural born killers soundtrack (top album that one). I feel like Nirvana, Pond, and Metallica making a comeback soon though. There's only so much (awesome) heavy goth rock you can subject yourself to

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Sisters of Mercy - Midian. Now that is a good album if ever I heard one Natural Born Kllers is a classic movie with a classic soundtrack.

On the Subject of Nirvana, I watched a tv show recently and Nevermind wa s voted most overrated album of all time - I think thats cruel - its great

Yup I can agree with that. Maybe not all-time best, but they are very good and have certainly done some original work

Anyway, why all the rock? You guys want good live performance stuff reggae is where it's at. A friend of mine lent me some CDs, and I love the jazz influence. Matisyahu is an incredible singer, and Spoken Gun is rock with some reggae influence. The greatest band though, has to be Slightly Stoopid, they're essentially the heir to Sublime.

Blech. And some people still like Ska too

Linkin Park does have a fairly distinctive blend (or they did until the clones came along); a lot of people compare them to Limp Bizkit and similar bands but their music actually varies a lot more. I greatly prefer it to "hardcore" and similar stlyes which don't require singing - only screaming.

Yup. Hits and misses. I think they really attempt more than their voices can handle with 'One Step Closer' and 'And One' in particular - nothing that bad on Meteora though, so they obviously know (or their producer knows) what they're best at.

Ska was lame. You've got to listen to Slightly Stoopid's "Jedi", "Closer to the Sun", and "Fireshot, and probably Maatisyahu's "King Without A Crown" for good measure. G. Love & Special Sauce has a cool song called "Astronaut", it's not reggae but whatevah, same crowd. Don't forget Jack Johnson.

Then on a completely there's Steve Reich's contemporary multimedia opera, The Cave which is just brilliant.

On topic though, I didn't follow their album history, I just have Hybrid Theory copied into a playlist on WMP. The only songs I have any taste for though are "Points of Authority", "Crawling", and maybe "In the End". They're interesting, you can't give them crap for bringing something that may have been done before but in a newer, fresher, and more public way for a little bit.

Is coldplay the one where the main guy has the high pitched anoying voice in many songs? If so, they just piss me off. It hurts to listen to them.

good charlotte i used to like, when they sang about how society's foobared, then suddenly they release a track abotu committing suicide, and then another saying how we're all gonna die anyway... now it's just depressing.

green day i really hate - they's like "ZOMG LETS JUMP POLITICAL BANDWAGON COS ITS THE NEW IN THING AND BANDS ARE MAKING LOTS OF MONEY FROM IT! ZOR!"

try hope of the states, warren zevon, and i heard bob dylans also good for political music, but i turned him off cos his music (or the track i was listening to) was slow and depressing.

simple plan... i think i heard a few of their tracks. if i got the right band... they sounded a little emo to me. i hate emo.

linkin park... i used to play endlessly, i still like them but i think my phase with them ended a long time ago, i very rarely listen to them now.

my 4 cents
