Just recently got back into The sisters of mercy. Finally got around to ordering them on CD after over a decade. Basically is goth rock. Never liked goth, but blew me away when I heard Vision Thing (best album) when at the time I was into Nirvana, Metallica etc. Turn the amp right up and it's tops.

Cheers

I like lift music..seriously.... I buy easy listening "sounds like" budget albums, no real quality..just ambient background noise, I get too much into music otherwise and just stop what I am doing, I do have some real music, all the way from Bon Jovi to Gregorian chant, my music tastes are so wide I have been told I don`t have any taste

the average IQ is 100...but the people that took the test where trying to look smart. most people don`t go over 50.
Area 51?, I`m more intrested in what they have in areas 1 to 50

people who hate rap music probably haven't heard good rap music. The reason speaking fast to music is good is because you can say more and therefore write something more meaningful, if you have the talent with words. OR you could just say yo and motherf***er all the time and talk about how much money cars and 'hos' you have. Which is BAD rap.

AS the conversation is going more towards the rock / metal side of things, whats wrong with Greenday? Especially earlier albums, dookie was excellent. Nirvana were v good too.

As for harder stuff, I like Midian by Cradle of Filth, that has some interesting classical and operatic influences in with the screaming And the best Grindcore band I've heard are Obtaining Confusion.

Black music nigger!
The real music nigger!

Black music nigger!
The real music nigger!

(sorry mods if it's too offensive, those are the real lyrics)

hell NO!!!!! nas is the best rapper by far.
@ deep thought
im with you on the car thing, someone was parked across the street from my house last night at about 1130 pm and they were blasting music, that annoys the hell out of me.
i would have fought that guy,.... but he's about 1'5" taller than me and about 30K heavvier and i..... didnt want to hurt my hand punching him out..... i might never play the piano again....
[edit]
@megaton
yeah, i dont like that kind of thing either, if you want to hear good rap music, find 'if i ruled the world' by nas and lauryn hill

(trooper) "we came here to put you out of your misery"
(joseph) "misery? what misery, i love killing people, i love squishing them until their guts come out like chunky mustard!

Hmm, let's see:

Nightwish
Cradle of Filth
Korn
Slipknot
Arch Enemy

and I wouldn't dare forget the one of a kind music track:

Sona Mi Areru Ec Sansitu

Don't look at me like that!
You're just jealous because the voices are talking to me!

Its hard, you get music like Megaton mentioned, and just a bunch of rubbish, I know theres decent rap, I've heard little bits, but honestly can't say I can name rappers, today its all

'I'll blow a cap in yo head if yo get yo hands on me ho, beach'
or
'My Milkshape is better than yours, I can teach you, but I have to charge'- or what I thought when I saw the lyrics of a SOAD song (saw them before hearing) i thought was taking the mick out off 'My C*** is bigger than yours, my c*** can walk right through the door, you guy know the rest )

and well now I'm on the subject of metal attacking crappy music...
Here are lyrics of a Dry Kill Logic song
'You Really wanna know what I really really want, I wanna see you, DIE!!!!!!!!!!!'
and the lyrics to a Spice Girls song
'Ypu really wanna know what I really want...and so on'

Note-Lyrics are not exact

I have a very wide ranging taste in music but there are a few genres I can't be doing with under any circumstances.

The first is Country - they never stop damn whinging... either their bird's left them, it's raining, or someone shot their dog! I tell you they are just plain miserable!

The second is Rap/HipHop whatever. Does my head in. Some of the videos on satellite are a laugh though - if you turn the volume off while watching.

A selection from my CD collection which gets the most play (in no particular order):

Pink Floyd
Genesis
Chicane
Camel
Jean Michel Jarre
Vangelis
Yes
Paul Oakenfold
Talisman & Hudson (there's a clip of Leaving Planet Earth hidden in MatEdit)
Mike Oldfield
Ferry Corsten (& System F)
Paul Van Dyk
York
DJ Sakin
DJ Tiesto
Chemical Brothers
Binary Finary
Deep Forest
Enigma
Leftfield (Melt is an excellent track to chill to)
Orbital
William Orbit
Enya & Clannad
Aphex Twin
Faithless
Yello

I'd agree with most of TDK's collection: throw in SOAD and Radiohead there too and you've got winning taste.

3paw. Said it before I'll say it again. 3paw.

[edit] For those not in on the joke 3paw is me, I do satirical rap and try to get on as many TV & Radio shows as I can, as a kind of running joke with my friends. Hell, last night you may have seen me on ITVs 50 best TV Shows in the background of Pop Idol being a 'Gangstar' - I whooped so hard when I saw I'd made it to their best 50 moments EVER, especially being I was in the background and therefore in there completely by accident [/edit]

TDK: I think you win the award for the most *programmer* type music listing. At least for the early 90's. Hell, you couldn't get 3 steps in my old computer science lounge without someone stopping you to talk about some obscure Pink Floyd, Vangelis, Jarre, Genesis etc album. Oh, and I was converted to think 3 out of the 4 are awesome. Jarre can be alright. He can also be burned at the stake. Smug git.

Cheers

good rap...well its not really rap, its Slam Poetry...Brain 'Yap' Barry, ex-lead singer to One Minute Silnce, me bro and sis have spoken to him, really nice guy, and they have his phone number and personal email address.

He now does Slam Poetry, which is like rap, but more poetry like, and he's really good, and political.

There, rap, and none of that 'blow a cap in yo head' crap
