I have no idea what half of that means, buut thats something to discuss with justin. As far as I'm concerned it can be any format, as long as i can make level on it. Did you have some funky editor for OIE? cause i remember there being buildings that you could go in and have rooves dissappear, which makes it look like its not just random generation.. If you don't thats cool I will get justin to make something, but yeah talk to him about level formats. I can't wait to get a hold of it and start putting things together.

@zirch:
awesome, i tried to play DS 2 but i played it on a lan with a guy who didnt wanna play so I couldn't get into it as well as I wanted. Also can't wait for that model viewer, some of your models aren't working too well with this other proggy cause of some glitch with the direct x exporter, like some of my models had.

@everyone:
big paycheck coming through tomorrow so after i get my snes and (hopefully) my syndicate cartridge is delivered I will travel to some goth stores (yeah im lookin forward to that :/) to pick up some cyber punk gear. not cause im going to go out clubbing in it (well maybe) but cause I'm gonna redo the intro, where the guy smokes then gets hit by teh car and transformed on the da vinci machine. Then goes on a mission and does some stuff then cut to gameplay footage clips etc. That sounds like I wrote it hurriedly and well yeah I am, but I'm just so excited!! Anyway what I meant to say was that I'm buying the costume so I can film a live action rendition of the original snes intro. then i will spruce it up with some other random shots and gameplay footage. Hopefully have it up for you soon, and depending on how fast justin can get the hang of the oie engine and chuck the models in I will put up a demo. 3 years baby, 3 years and finally i can say the word demo...

The editor for OIE is quite elaborate, because it uses an internal collision method, means each object would need to be setup for this, which does take some time - but after that the collision detection system is very fast.

The editor does have a lot of time-saving things, like you can import a heightmap, automatically generate the foliage, auto-vert colouring on the terrain to shade it, stuff like that. It will probably need the media to be scaled to suit, but IIRC the buildings with the dissapearing roofs just assume that the second limb is the roof limb, and hides that - I'll have to look into it though, tis been so long since I checked the editor code.

The ASCII save file format would be very welcome. It's the easiest way to expand the system and it is far easier to manage/debug/tweak later. If we need file security, we can always add a ZIP wrapper with passwords later.

Wiggett, how goes the gaming, shopping, movie making ideas? Did that exec I sent you work? Any suggestions on improvements for the little model viewer that I wrote? (It's still a toy, but it has the potential to be a useful toy for visiualization/scaling purposes.)

Van B, how goes the OIE source conversion? (I'm not being pushy, I know these thing can take time. But, if you need a second set of eyes for bug hunting or testing, feel free to drop me a line.)

oh hey, did I send you a reply? Anyway yeah your program runs sweet! i had fun driving the cars around, some of them actually have nice driving physics although you may have to change the dual carraige train as it doesn't bend around corners, though we could always just have only straight tracks :/. anyway, Shopping is fine, I got two cybe rpunk outfits that I'm gonna work on in the office tomorrow, 1 female 1 male. i also got blue, green, red and silver hair spray.. I wonder what that's for Will post photos of me playing on teh big screen -oh wait- i forgot to tell you guys. here i am in the store with mone ypurchasing a super nes to play the game on, i look at the new bunch of games the owner is sorting through and BAM a complete box with manual and cartridge of syndicate he said tha tit came in the night before, ohwell I thought I will buy that anotehr time maybe and sell one cartridge on ebay. Then I look and he has syndicate on the mega drive, Now I'm niot sure but I think it was somehow supposed to be better on the MD so I decide I will also buy that and the mega drive .. and golden axe. I ended up walking out of the store with a snes with cables and controllers, and a megadrive with 2 controllers and cables and two games . anyway once I make my cyberpunk costume I will take photos of me wearing it while playing syndicate. Can't wait to get started on the level making, i've been scanning a whole heap of architecture in the industrial district of melbourne. Some nice structures in the north, But one real good alleyway cafe' strip has this big industrial looking entry way to a shopping arcade, with heaps of bright 80s style graffiti that leads down an adjoining alleyway, with more colours and big dumpsters. it lights up at night too as an art spot, so it will be perfect for filming portions of the cyberpunk intro. can't wait to get started on filming. just gotta make the costumes.

In the original game, the trains did run on a straight piece of track. But if we want to get more elaborate, I have no problem splitting the two car train into seperate parts.

Been trying to get the stuff tidied, but my PC has spat out 2 power supplies this week due to some sort of supply problem - the one I have in now seems to be working fine, so hopefully I'll get it uploaded later tonight. Mostly been adding help screens to the editors and debugging for U5.9 - 'tis all working in 5.9 except the jeep is rotated stupidly.

I think though, that I'll upload the source for OIE plus editors as public domain, so anyone can do what they like with it - however the OIE engine is a bit lacking for Syndicate I think. Like there's a maximum of 32 on most things, structures and items for instance. Also the terrain is 64x64, and the file format is kinda redundant. That's why I'll make it PD, I'll make an extended engine for you guys only. It should'nt take long, just gonna expand the terrain to something decent, and get rid of the miniscule limits - thinking 512x512 tile terrain and maybe 512 as a standard limit. I'll make the nice file system for that as well as the first person mode - makes sense to me to give you something that you can get your teeth into before needing to get heavy with the code.

LMOA! Good stuff, Wiggett.

Thanks for all the effort on this, Van B. I know about the hardware blues. Something on my computer died this weekend that I can't troubleshoot which means its probably the mother board or CPU. So, it looks like I'll be borrowing one of my kids PC until my tax refund comes in Feburary. :-(

well i've gone over board spending what is probably now near $200 on costumes, gotta spray paint the ski boots all funky liuke and add the chains. (thats for the cyberpunk outfit) still gotta find a trenchcoat for the agent, found a few but too pricey etc. Will upload photos where i can. Also once I get a working demo I might get some t-shirts printed, thinking of it being "Syndicate: Re-mastered" on one side, then having a logo with "corporate persuasion through urban violence" on the other. If anyone wants to waste some time feel free to photoshop up a nice looking image that I can get printed onto some shirts. might even sell them to help fund stuff, or just wear them to promote the game

Black army raincoats are very trenchcoat-ish and go for about $12 US in the local Army surplus stores. [My son likes to wear goth gear and still stay within budget.]

I cant wait to see the finished film. It sonds like great fun and you must have cool friends to want to act in it. I made my friends pretend to be mentally handicapped doing olympic sports for my multimedia film. Back on subject, this game looks great. I remember the old syndicate, not aure which version, but i never was really good at it( too young) but i used to watch my dad play it, and it lokked really cool.

actually i haven't asked anyone to be in it yet, i told my punksih cousin and she said she'd be interested. Migh get the new girl i signed up to the tv network to do some stuff, she wants to act. Then I can always put a message out to the list. i'm thinking of making more footage stuffs to, for in-game cut scenes etc, like the dune series had. i'm even thinking of putting an underlying theme in this syndicate, where you play as a corporation or the low-teks. Corporations are greedy groups, and they have more money and look sharper, also they can afford better quality implants/equipment. Low-teks are the street punks, their equipment/implants are cheaper, but are of lesser quality etc. And there is a plague spreading across the world, seemingly unstoppable till one company (pharmacorp, generic.. ain't it ) developed the cure, of course they sell this for very high prices, so of course the low-teks want to rebel against the corporations. During the game you will end up discovering that pharmacorp created the disease and teh cure in order to make huge profits. You also discover how to synthesize the cure, (that's right, sing like robert smith with this new implant! j/k) your choice then is wether to syntehsize teh cure and sell it yourself, competing with other corporations and making money, or spreading the information to as many corporations / low-tek gp's as you can, thus bringing pharmacorp's reign to an end. Sounds cyberpunk enough? of course the original game of blowing the heck out of things will still be there, you just have goals to achieve

Ok need some input here. For the footage, I'm thinking of making cutscenes. a la' dune series etc. Now, what do people think of the idea of the low teks vs high teks, with teh idea of the virus. Cause I want to start writing up scripts, at the moment i have myself as a punk, my cousin as a punk girl, and a friend who will play a corporate business woman (ps she is a freakin babe with huge... tracts of land*). So I will try and find a corporate businessman, and a few extras to play agents/cyberpunks. So anyone with ideas on how I should carry the story line give me a buzz on this thread. I'm at the office for the next few hours (getting a slurpee now!) so i can check this bit frequently. Also anyone made a logo yet?

It's far from too late, but it's Wiggett's call since he's essentially the project lead.

Quicktime 7, eh? I'll give that a try. Of course, I have to figure out how to avoid iTunes. (I have issues with it.)

BTW, my computer was dead for a week, glad to be back among the living.

Quicktime 7 works like a charm. And, Apple was kind enough to include a separate uninstall option for iTunes.

LOL! Cool logo and love the video, "Think about it. Think about it." We've got to include that line some how. Perhaps in a mission briefing or cut scene.
