@ John Y:

I'm sorry you're account wasn't activated, I thought it had been. I've gone and done it myself just now so you should be able to login.

Hmm a large write-up? Do you know when the next newsletter deadline is?

I'd say by the 29th.

Here's an email I sent to BatVink quite a while back:
Quote: "Hey Steve,
Just an update about the TGCWebring.

Josh has done some great work on getting the website working, usable, and looking quite nice.
It uses some of the basic colour and design concepts from the original .co.nr website, but with a much nicer web2.0 overall look and feel.

We haven't even officially released the webring site yet and we already have over 10 websites listed in a number of different, relative categories.

We are still having some teething problems with the domain redirecting, so for the moment http://www.codersturf.com/tgcwebring is the link to use instead of the soon-to-be www.tgcwebring.info official address.

Submitting your site to the webring requires a Coders Turf account which is very wasy to get and can be used across the entire CT website (including, of course, the TGCwebring site and other great area's like the new home of LimeFly).

The design is a very basic one, which is exactly what we were after. We want to list the websites available, under their relative categories and try to direct some traffic between those sites that are shown.
Marketing your site on the webring is left entrirely up to you as you can write you own blurb and even provide your own screenshot of the site to draw in more potential customers and/or general browsers.

Once again, a note should be made that the site isn't officially fully released, but it is definatly in a useable and good-looking state thanks to Josh's (CT admin) work.

--
I don't know how much of that you want to include in the newsletter, but that's a starting point if you want to cut it down or expand upon it. You may want to contact Josh for a chat and maybe get his views on the points I've made."

As you can see, some of that info is old now.
Something that lists the features, tells why we're so damned good, and why everyone should submitt their site would be best

@ Shadow heart:

If you're investing in a domain you may as well go all the way and buy a website to go with it, rather than using those free forums.

The quality of an SMF forum hosted by SpidaHost for example, is much higher quality (and advert free). It's worth the 53 cents/month...

Josh,

It lets me log in sometimes and as soon as I try to view another page, it logs me out (says hello stranger) and won't let me log back in. It says the account doesn't exist. I am trying to add my site.

Thanks.

OK i've submitted my site.
This "webring" is pretty awesome- there's lots of cool stuff in it i didn't know existed before. Why is this called a webring though- isn't that a thing where you just link the sites together in a ring? Anyway the hub thing works better.

@xplosys: I think others have had this issue - something to do with cookies being set too paranoid...

Why has my site been removed?
It has a link to the TGC webring! (two in fact)

Diggsey, I don't know if this is why your site isn't there but you are linking to the old address, that may be the problem.

Also I went on my old Yahoo email account a week ago and found an email from you from about 1/2 a year ago (about linking sites). Whoops, sorry I didn't see it (I haven't used that account in ages)

@Nicholas Thompson,

Thank you. Although my settings were normal, if I had looked at the bottom of the browser window, I would have seen that it was indeed a cookie issue. I'm not sure why they were blocked.

Now we are just waiting on approval.

One question. Does the code use an image of the URL I submitted or do I need to submit the image?

Thanks.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

UUUh, you'll need to download the image, and host it on your own server, then code the image to the area on your server...

It seems that people haven't yet put the linkback on the site, this needs to be done, before the mods can approve it.

I think you can submit a thumbnail, but mostly the thumbnails are generated by MSN's thumbnail service.

@dabip my site DOES have a linkback
It was already approved once, and then some other mod removed it again!

(Sorry if this has already been asked)

Can I link back with a text hyperlink? I have a link on every page of my site but it is not the image that you distributed.

Thanks, but it appears that the webring code takes care of that and generates an image of your page. Great. Thanks for the help.

I haven't really got time atm, what with college, exams, work, learning to drive, SpidaHost, etc. I work pretty much 7AM 'till 10PM 7 days a week.

Be assured though; its on the list.

I have an issue with Thingy Ma Jig - It doesn't seem to be in my account...
http://tgcwebring.codersturf.com/index.php?view=reviselink&link_ID=6

Can it be transferred? I wanna set the screenshot to the one I've attached to my profile's download area.

I can edit the database to change who submitted the link; however, you will still only be able to submit revisions Nicholas, which is what I suggest you do.

If you really want me to change the submitter from X to Y I will go and do it for you.

No no, by all means check whenever you can, hehe. I'm still knee-deep in the EE release, and running the Text Adventure compo, and pestering people for prizes, and breaking ground on two new games, and trying to maintain an active social life amidst all that, so it's definitely helpful! hehe

Fair enough. That problem is mostly caused by cookies. Just allow the domain codersturf.com to set any cookies it wants, they're all safe. And also clear your cache + cookies, that generally works.

Hmm. Thinking about it the session problem might be due to me building a new framework behind the scenes at CT. Some things are bound to have problems.

Not much can be done about that until I switch over to the updated website.

Nah, it's cool, hehe. I check it once a day (except on mondays and wednesdays, I'm always super-bogged down), it's just funny that you always beat me to modding everything, lol. I don't mind, it's less work for me . Someday you'll leave 10 updates for me to approve and I'll know that you're sick or off on vacation, hehe.

Ahh yes, abducted by aliens. Well, if you and I both get abducted then Josh is going to have a ton of work fall in his lap unexpectedly, so if they come for you probe-in-hand (or tentacle, depending on which galaxy they come from) you'll have to let me know so I fight them off more when they come for me .

TGC Webring mods are crazy? Wha? Who? Nah, not true, perfectly sane we are .
