A quick game I wrote in DBP when I had a couple of weeks spare from Uni

If you want to see if DBP can handle pushing around 2025 objects on screen then this is for you.

Designed to run smooth on (Penitum 4 2Ghz + nVidia fx5200) and (Pentium M 1.5Ghz + Intel 915) or better.

http://www.kumkie.com/free/dino_hunter/dinohunter.zip v1.03 (15Mb)

[KEYS]
W,A,S,D or Arrow Keys + Mouse
F1/F2 switches on/off FPS,Poly Count,CPU,GPU and game stats
F3 switches on shadow (don't do it) its experimental not ready yet

[NEW FEATURES]
v1.03 Fixed a small sound error bug where 100% volume caused a crash.
v1.02 Added footstep sounds. Finished bug fixing.
v1.01 Your ammo is now limited and can run out! Look out for new ammo packs washed up on the beach. If you can't find it you can cheat by looking for its location in the game stats

[BUGS]
All the bugs should be ironed out now.

If you have wierd graphics glitches or a DirectX dll error then update your DX9 and graphics card drivers to the latest versions.

I'll give it a try when I get home.

Cool man, this is coming along great. Don't forget to add an option to slow down the mouse speed. I could barely aim on my system running at 25fps.

Water needs to be slightly less reflective/ slightly transparent. You can't see anything at all in the water.

Thats about all I noticed right off, except what you already know about.

I can't make a transparent reflection the shader will only do one or the other.

Mouse speed adjuster noted and added to the bugs list. Thanx.

If you use another camera to get an image of what is below the water then you can blend it with the reflection in the shader. You could even try adding some refraction. Looks pretty nice. Downloading.

Pretty cool! One thing I find annoying is that you do your mouselook calculations using integers thus it's really 'fast' and it's hard to aim accurately. Also, there seems to be a problem with the water, see the attached screenshot.

There should be mouse percentage control if you are using v1.0 (this is a old thred it moved to the nVidia compo thread)

Wierd screenshot what graphics card have your got?

I'm just using DBPs standard "set reflection shading on water" with "set alpha mapping on water,25"

alpha won't show with reflection for me so I just get reflection.

maybe both together is messing something up on your card

I did eventualy drop this method for the pocean.fx shader but I was unable to compile it into a .exe (im still trying to find a solution to this)

Try to attach a plain in front of the camera.
Use one of those raytracing shaders(?) with a normalmap attached to it and let the texture scroll on the plain.

You could try adjusting the camera fov. Or possibly the camera view... I think fov is more likely to work.

No it's written in DBP, im not sure what the sound volume error is it should create a file on your C: drive to store the volume settings maybe something went wrong with this process?

I missed you on the Tank game but saw you logged in and killed me, noo8, thanx for testing

I think there is another bug...

the game load slow because it has included media compressed

so people double click the icon more than once

so there are 2 games running on the same screen and the top one the player sees gets confused with the variables of the other one and so places the monsters in the water

I'm working on how to stop 2 copies loading up, in the mean time make sure you only double click once and wait while the game unpacks its files and starts.

Thanx.
