Quote: "Mighty Boosh"

I saw the TV series of the Mighty Boosh and, although it didn't sweep me off my feet (found it only mildly amusing) I felt that somehow I couldn't miss an episode. It was strangely alluring, really.

Despite not being based in the UK, I am a bit of a britcom buff and try my best to watch just about anything (also love british crime dramas). There are a few "holes" in my knowledge though such as having only watched a single episode of spaced (though I know Pegg well from Shaun and Big Train).

I have never watched any Darkplace (should I?) and have never heard of Monkey Dust and Jaaaammmm...

My favourite britcom series in the last few years are Black Books, Father Ted, People Like Us, I'm Alan Partridge, The Office and 15 Storeys High.

Runner ups are One Foot In The Grave, Fast Show, Human Remains, Brass Eye and Little Britain, Big Train (1st series) and Green Wing.

I am somewhat indifferent to My Family, Game On, Vicar Of Dibley, Wild West and TV To Go.

Really didn't like Catherine Tate Show or Nighty Night.

All that from the top of my head... I've forgotten dozens of things I'm sure.

Darkplace? It is like the best ever. Buy the DVD now (it took years to come out)!!!! There is a reason why channel four banned it in the 80's! Yep, basically pushed the boundries right to the edge. With comments along the lines of "I had to cope with the wrath of hell and the complexities of day to day admin..." and when the doctors (its based in a hospital) come to work with shotguns, then you know you are onto a winner...

Oh, and Jam (Jaaaammmmmmmm......) is just the most worrying thing I have ever seen. I mean I really don't normally give a damn, but just watch it and you will see what I mean. A bit disturbing. Like wanting to laugh at a joke about a tragedy (see South Park for similar stuff). Plain wrong. But funny as hell. Literally. And Monkey Dust is similar but with cartoons. Heh, the bloke who just disappears for ages is really funny. "Where have you been for 14 years?". "Sorry love, I was trying to fill a bath with ***". Almost swallowed my tongue on that one Insterestingly it never made more than 2 series because the bloke died. Damn it. Evil black humour shouldn't be struck down by death. Although it does sort of balance things out. Sort of...

Cheers

Ps. Here is my sig from the Darkplace forum : "Blood. Blood. Blood. Blood. Blood. Blood. And bits of sick.". Is a quote from the program. You get the idea....

If you want to learn an English accent, learn a Colchester one. It is the oldest town in England and theoretically the definative accent, I'll make some sound files for you if you want

Monkey dust does rock. I like the meat safe murderer. It's so sinister ... I haven't quite figured it out; does the space hopper kill the people, or does it just tell him to do it?

The rebranding of the fire service was priceless. "The public trust the fire service brand. We want to get the fire service into people's homes... homes that aren't necessarily on fire." Very satirical.

I really liked the few episodes I saw of MD, and I was sad to see it disappear suddenly. It's a shame the bloke died

Also, isn't he the bloke who did Stressed Eric?

Yeah, I think space hopper kills them in his head, but it doesn't actually exist and he is actually killing them himself. The best one was the women who married him when he was in jail (for killing people). ie. stupid cow. Obviously she is killed. Tops.

Cheers

I guess one must really watch it to make any sense of this lark.

BTW, I didn't know that Jam was done by Chris Morris. I've only seen his Brass Eye and I think it's wickedly great. Must check out Jam and "The Day Today" (which I've been meaning to do for a while). Time ho hit ebay...

Jam is like the most weirdest thing ever. I mean it comes with another DVD of "extras" that is basically the 1st DVD but with different, stupid, viewing modes. It's been a while but I think one of them is watching everything exactly the same but really really small. I mean erm.... It's totally offensive but amazingly funny too (well to me). I don't think I've ever thought "Hmmm, now I think perhaps they may have gone too far here" about TV that didn't get banned and still wanting to laugh (guiltily). I mean jokes about tiny coffins and mothers who pretend to be loose girls to sleep with their son to take away any thoughts of homesexuality.... yep.... pretty black humour right there....

As for monkey dust, it is almost as funny but not as offensive. Even with the serial killers with evil Space hoppers in their heads.

Cheers

Heh, for some reason just thought of those two blokes who did Peepshow (also brilliant). They had their own show a while back. Just look on YouTube for BMX bandit and Angel Summoner. F'ing brilliant. Oh, and Numberwang. Also tops. Especially the german episode. Think I went about a month before moving to Cyprus just shouting Numberwang!!!!! down the pub with my mates. 5, 8, 1000, 320, 3, thats Numberwang!!!!! Just watch it...

And once again, buy the Darkplace DVD. Nothing else quite like it....

Cheers
