Well, get this. He. Funny story... After playing Half-Life, I've been thinking. Instead of doing the game as a series of challenges and puzzle-much like portal- I will instead go for a more Half-Life approach. The setting and humour and whatnot will stay the same, but the gameplay is being changed. I want it to capture the feeling of tension, but have the humour intact. I won't go into plot details, but you can expect to be answering plenty of questions about the shady, euphemistic world of S.M.I.L.E. industries, armed with sparse but interesting weaponry that helps create some tense action. Pictures will arrive soon enough, as for the demo, I'm afraid you'll have to be patient.

What about a mix? A few levels of Hard-Core Puzzle Solving and the rest like HL? I always want something with Hard-Core shoot-outs, Humor, and Puzzle solving.

Well the puzzle element will still be present, it just won't be in the contex of: "this whole level is a puzzle in itself." I also want to add a level of cautiousness to the puzzles. I don't want to give anything away, but if you don't think it through and take in the surroundings, you may find yourself in a lot of trouble.

Quote: "S.M.I.L.E. is dead. It truly pains me to dissapoint the people who have been looking forward to this for so long, but I'm discontinuing it for several reasons:

I miss Rise of the Mini-unz.

SMILE industries works well as a thread introduction, not as a game- level design, aesthetics and innovative gameplay are a case of hit-and-miss.

Making the game funny in the context of the "black humour" just doesn't work for me- ROTM is much funnier and plays to my comedic strengths.

However, there is a silver lining. ROTM is back on track. (although the levels are lost due to CPU reboot.) S.M.I.L.E. industries is still opening it's multiplayer colloseum, which delivers a deathmatch experience unlike any other. Lastly, I already have a second project lined up for after ROTM- a project so creative you'll forget S.M.I.L.E. ever existed."

can I finish it i can make a x10 and a x9 version

Wow, I've spawned a Halo. Although I'd prefer it if S.M.I.L.E. remains untouched, as it will no doubt be resurrected in the future. And then there's the deathmatch, which will be incredible. Who knows, I may even do a S.M.I.L.E. comic. There's more opportunity than FPS games. (Again, I will probably take up the game when I get my muse back.)

S.M.I.L.E. industries is back on track! It's a puzzler now, with a puzzle element that'll blow you away! (S.M.I.L.E. industries reminds you that we cannot be held responsible for projectile subjects) I'm keeping it hush hush for now, but S.M.I.L.E. has found it's smile again! Oh, I'm giddy.

So, Pus in Boots, does that mean it's gonna be made after all? Full game? Not a MP?

It's more on track than ever! If I wanted to, I could probably have a gameplay video up in about a week. Although I'm waiting on the release of a certain mod...

Hey Pus In Boots, I just had a funny idea. At the intro to your game. You should have your character waiting in a slow lift with that annoying music that you have in lifts. That should add to the sarcasm.

Game looks cool.

Oh yeah, there's plenty of elevator music in S.M.I.L.E. industries. Especially in the multiplayer. Nothing says "pwn'd ur face" like that mindless cheesy tune. The only difficulty I've had is finding some elevator music on the net. The results seem slim, but I'll keep at it.

I said I could if I wanted. I'm currently waiting for a mod to be released, as it's sort of the backbone of the puzzling. I could post a quick action teaser, but that eliminates the whole purpose of using the gameplay vid to showcase the game as a whole. Besides, I don't want to give too much away just yet. But there will be updates soon, rest assured.

Right now, I've taken a quick detour from S.M.I.L.E. to make multiplayer map. I won't say anything about it yet, but it is like nothing you've ever seen in a deathmatch game before, and I mean it when I say that.

If it feels good, it's a sin.

Is said mod Ply's Mod V1.07? If it is I could help you with some custom scripting goodness......

I've actually only just played Portal, if you make the Dark Humur in this half as funny, and the gameplay half as interesting, I'll nominate this for BOTB.....

Thanks. But it's less dark humour, more ME humour. Or something. The humour is still being shaped and FOR THE LAST FREAKIN' TIME, THIS IS NOT A PORTAL CLONE.

Ahem. But yes, thanks for supporting S.M.I.L.E. industries etirely humane cause.

Alongside the seperate MP game I'm making, I'm starting work on the first S.M.I.L.E. industries MP map. It will be a small-medium symmetrical map designed for just two players. The spawn zones are unreachable and have multiple exits to prevent spawn camping and also have windows for looking down on the surrounding areas to scout out the enemy when they cross into your territory. There's a lot more to it then that, but I'll release further map details later on. I will probably finish it up by late next week and will release it publicly after it's been beta tested.

Here are some WIP shots of the 1 on 1 multiplayer map. Remember, it is strictly unfinished. The screenies shown depict the main centre of the map. It doesn't look like much in these shots, but it has huge tactical value. Whoever can hold it down has a distinct upper hand, but there's always ways for the opponent to get the drop on you.

The second multiplayer map is underway, so let's have a quick preview. The centre (as shown) has both flags (it's CTF) within close distance of each other, but the gap is too large to traverse, so teams must set up an effective attack/ defense to proceed through enemy territory and prevent the nemy from doing the same. Like the 1 on 1 map, this is roken into three sections: one side for team A, an identical one for team B opposite and a neutral centre. This no-mans-land accomodates a sniping perch (with easy access by both teams) and a shotgun. To reach the shotgun, the enemy must run down the centre, vulnerable to attacks from behind, above (where the flags are situated) and the aforementioned sniper perch. This is a small symmetrical CTF map designed for up to 8 plrs (subject to change) It will be released with the full S.M.I.L.E. MP package and will run on Lemur V4.

Also, that screenshot is from a very early build and does not represent the final yada yada yada yada.
