Just a quick bit of news. S.M.I.L.E. industries will include an option to play each level in a hardcore mode where the player dies from one hit, be it melee, ranged, explosive or environmental. It will be implemented in a way that makes it easy to toggle.

Yeah, I know I'm being stingy on the media, but it is most certainly coming. Right now, I'm waiting for my GCSEs to finish (in about 2 weeks.) Until then, I can do nothing but think of ideas of an evening.

Also, I've started to compile a feature lsit in the top post that you may want to keep an eye on. As for screenshots, I will probably release them as a big bundle once I've got sufficient media together, although the magic of S.M.I.L.E. can only really be seen in motion, so I'm going to get working on some trailers and; eventually, some raw gameplay footage. I'll try to enlist my brother's help for a trailer, as he can use after-effects and whatnot, so it should look pretty professional.

On another note, I might start a dev blog for S.M.I.L.E. industries over on IGN, so hopefully we can get gamers from outside the forums interested in it and you guys can keep track of developement. This is a bit of a maybe though.

Glad to hear this hasn't died, Pus In Boots. Can't wait for that demo or the possible trailers.

Well, technically, I won't be on stage due to bouncers. But I've tapped into the poll lines so as to modify the outcome of the finals in my favour. I certainly won't be losing to miss cry-a-lot!

I recon that all the best scripters/graphic designers should get to gether to for a company and build some games. The people i recon who would be the most important would be PLY, Knxrb, S4 and Cheezecake. That would be an awsome team

Forgetting Wolf, eh? You can have the best graphics and scripting but you have to have good map design as well.

That's fine. The thread itself is actually quite vague compared to what's in the works. Basically, you play as a new test subject in S.M.I.L.E. industries testing facilities. Without giving away the story, you will be delving into the pasts of previous test subjects and unravelling the mystery of S.M.I.L.E. industries. There is also a comedic element to the game to lighten the mood. Gameplay involves a mix of action, puzzling and larger-than-life environmental hazards that the player must overcome. The shooting is different to other FPSC games in that there are very few enemies you can permanently take out.

Thanks pus in boots I get it now but when you say
Quote: "delving into the past of previous subjects"
do you mean like tampered with horrific looking creature people or quite beaten up people?

When I say "subjects", it refers to regular people; like you and me, who have previously taken part in the tests. The main way you will be finding out about them is through messages written and left behind. Oh, and by "testing", it doesn't mean anything like genetic modification or prodding lab rats with poison needles. The tests are trials that each subject must physically complete to go to the next test. People die in the tests, but they don't transform into horrific looking creature people from jumping a few spikes and shooting a few robots. They are referred to as tests because they physically and mentally test the subjects ability to perform tasks and adapt to the needs of the environment. The people are not physically tested on, rather they test themselves against various obstacles.

Well, it'll be made in FPS Creator x9, so I can only assume that x9 games run on vista. It won't be made in x10 at any rate though.

Anyway, I have set up a blog for S.M.I.L.E. industries over on IGN. If you're registered please comment and track for latest (and sometimes exclusive) news and insights on developement. Here's the link: http://blogs.ign.com/SMILE_industries/2009/05/31/121862/

Just letting you guys know, I'm starting work on a side project in FPS Creator. I already have most of the assets together, so I won't have to waste time making new custom content. Having said that, this will not interfere with S.M.I.L.E. industries or the multiplayer game I'm working on. Expect to see more in the WIP board sometime soon. As for what the game is about, let's just say it takes minimalism to a new level.

Anyways, nice game. I think it would be cool to have multiple endings. Like if you died 50+ times, there would be an ending where you exit S.M.I.L.E Industries, but suddenly die.

Or if you didnt die at all, you would walk out of the building, and it collapses (of course, that isnt the ONLY S.M.I.L.E building ).

That would make this game worth buying.

And by buying, I mean a 100$ price

In answer to your question, I've been considering the option of having more than one ending. The ending is still a bit unclear and it will probably change more as developement goes on. Suffice to say, it will indeed be awesome.

Never played that game . No, I mean when you use it alot in a span of (insert time here), they jam. Like if you shoot a pistol 5 times in a row real quickly. This would happen rarely with machine guns

Tell you what, if I ever make an FPS game set in an open african world spanning 50 square kilometres of land, I'll be sure to include that feature.

sweet glad to be a influence. If your going to do that then see if you can really raise the bar by making the guns JAM which basically means the bullet gets stuck in the gun so you would have to press the reload button repeatedly unjam the gun and It wouldn't be that hard to animate ether (but what do I know)

I'll post screenshots when the maps are of a decent visual quality. They are quite bare at the moment, as right now I'm focusing on layout and playability rather than aesthetics.

Oh please, if I had a penny for every time someone said that to me. Everyone says they're gonna exact their revenge on me, but they never follow through. So you're gonna whine and paddy for a few days and then your gonna go back to your computer to make a crappy game with very poor light placement and unintuitive level design.

I don't think you're aware of the level of serving that's taking place here. The servitude is simply too great. You must make a clever comeback, possibly in the form of a yo mamma joke, or a more traditional middle-finger hand gesture.

(Just so I know we're on the same page, I was joking before. No offense intended.)

I'll try and post some up in the next few days. I'm trying to install Project Blue right now, so I'd rather get that out the way before anything else. I'll post up some pics for sure, but bear in mind they will represent levels that are still very much in development. Like I said, I have yet to add things like detail objects and lighting. But yes, I will post some up. Just bear with me for a little while.

Oh, and for anyone who cares, there will definitely be a demo for the game. I'm not sure if I already mentioned that or not.
