The 1.3.1 version exists when it is started ! It shows a message - "Thank you for trying out Indigo demo!" Is this a free software or a time limited commercial version ?

The latest 1.3.2 beta8 does not work properly. Many settings are disabled and so is auto complete.

Juggernaut,

It's more of a time limited free version. I think having to the download the latest version of a free product is small price to pay. I am however slowly moving Indigo to be a more commercial product. Though there will still be the free version.

v1.3.2 should have been complete by now, making the expiration of v1.3.1 a non-issue. I have updated v1.3.1 to run through the rest of the year and have updated the web site to reflect that. I've attached the patched v1.3.1 [edit](the exe only)[/edit], if would like to continue with it.

In regards to to v1.3.2 beta 8 not working properly, do you have examples?

The disabled options are those that where previously hidden from those who have not donated (which is explained in previous posts). I have decided to make them visible in the hopes that if people were aware of them that they would be more inclined to donate. As well as just making layout changes to the Options dialog.

Auto complete is not disabled (unless you've come across a new defect. ), just some extra options that are available in the activated version.

All the best,

If somebody donates $10 - will he get to see the full commercial version with all the features enabled and how long will he get update ? Life - long unless you run away or time limited ?
Will it be compatible with Dark Basic Elite ( DirectX 11 version ) ?

If I come across the errors once again I will post a screenshot here.

Selection of auto suggested functions should get selected by pressing "Enter" instead of "TAB" by default.

Secondly if you can display a tool-tip box with a brief description of the function when the user scrolls through the auto-suggested function list - the tool tip box content will update its content as
the user selects different function one after another. It will be very helpful for a newcomer to overcome the learning curve.

Thirdly can you include the un-official hidden commands that are not shown in the official documentation ? many things like ODE Physics and Projected Decals ( seen in FPS creator ) needs to be documented.

Dark Basic Elite doesn't exist yet, so there's no way to tell if it will be compatible with it or not, but I imagine Balid would support it anyway because from the sounds of it, there doesn't appear to be anything major happening to prevent that.

Cheers,
Aaron

Full for life.
Quote: "Will it be compatible with Dark Basic Elite ( DirectX 11 version ) ?"
That doesn't exist. It is simply Lee asking if people would be interested.
Quote: "Selection of auto suggested functions should get selected by pressing "Enter" instead of "TAB" by default."
That option was added but like most of the new features in 1.3.2 it is restricted to those who have donated to Indigo.
Quote: "Secondly if you can display a tool-tip box with a brief description of the function when the user scrolls through the auto-suggested function list"
I can put a variation of that in. If the user has the help window open it can be updated as the user strolls through the auto-complete list, it updates the help window.
Quote: "Thirdly can you include the un-official hidden commands that are not shown in the official documentation ? many things like ODE Physics and Projected Decals ( seen in FPS creator ) needs to be documented."
Short answer, no. I agree that they should be documented. However, I don't work for TGC, nor do I have the time to document their software, for free. I work on Indigo in my spare time as a hobby. And come to think of it. There's no documentation for Indigo either .

With all that. Should Lee and team be interested in Indigo as the IDE for Elite. I would be more than willing to bring Indigo into full production. To include documentation (of Indigo's features).

Hi Balid,

Indigo 1.3.2 Beta 8 has been an extremely solid release. Well done, no complaints here!!!

EDIT: On a slightly awkward note, I went to review and improve my Indigo snippets library, and then I remembered this work flow I requested many moons ago...

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=176316&b=5&msg=2224881#m2224881

But I can't actually remember how to trigger "Prompted Entries" for code snippets! O_o

BFM,

Check out page 8 for reminder. I not at a computer right now or I'd explain more.

Real quick though, put << >> around the part that is variable. And when you insert the code, you will be prompted for the replacement value.

Juggernaut, try downloading the latest version or re-download the v1.3.1 version from the website. That should resolve your issue.

v1.3.2 beta 9 is uploaded.
+ Added the option to wrap text.
+ Added option to have the Help window update based on highlighted command in AutoComplete. {activated version}

Auto suggestion does not work !

Help window update itself. But it would have been a lot better to have an option to activate the help within the tooltip that currently now shows on the parameter. This kind of tool tip help is available in eclipse and netbeans.

Otherwise the user has to look left and scroll the help window horizontally with mouse to get to see the whole text. It is all very natural to for the programmer to get to see the function details on the right as tooltip as selects one function after another in the drop down auto suggest list or place the mouse cursor on an existing function within the IDE editor.

Juggernaut,

How about something more than "Auto suggestion does not work !". It works when I test it. Both in the free version (both 1.3.1 and 1.3.2 b9) and the activated versions. If you are referring to [Enter] not working the same as [Tab]. That is in the activated and I believe is only in 1.3.2.

I agree that there is an opportunity with the auto-complete "tool tip". I have a few ideas on how to provide a very versatile solution. But it comes in smaller steps. What I proposed/provided was step one. A working proof of concept or a learning model.

v1.3.2 beta 10 uploaded

Juggernaut,

I made the feature of having [Enter] insert Auto Complete selection available in the free version. As well as tool tips for Auto Complete selections. Enjoy.

And just a reminder, this is a beta, so there may a few things that need to be tweaked.

How come the Compile window stays open now?
Having to manually close it after every compile seems like a step backwards.

Please please forgive me if I missed out any logs or updates on syntax highlighting, I have not had much spare time recently to try out the updates; so ignore this idea if it has already been implemented. The idea is to syntax highlight comma seperated declarations:

In all of the above example, only variable 'A' is highlighted as a global; but all three variables are globals.

Chris Tate,

No worries. That was something that was on the list to do. And it's in now. Though in the example the A is highlighted as a keyword. I'll have to look into that.

v1.3.2 beta 11 has been uploaded.
+ Added shortcuts to 'Fold This' and 'Unfold This' (ways to quickly fold and unfold individual sections without having to click on the margin markers).
> A few more defects fixed. To include fixing the About dialog (it didn't like the fact that the beta version is now 2 digits).

All,

Has anyone had issues when changing the Font? There is someone who is experiencing an issue where Indigo keeps reverting back to Courier New. And in mid use. The first page with change OK but the next will be right back to Courier New. I've no idea why or how and just looking to see if anyone else has had the same problem.

I have a feature request.

Would it be possible to add a virtual folder structure to the include files list? I have over 30 included files and it's starting to clutter up. It would be nice if I could organise them into virtual folders in the editor (Visual Studio does this very nicely).

v1.3.2 beta 11 - Auto complete does not show up automatically. Had to press CTRL+SPACE to get it showing up.

The tool-tip help sometimes work and sometimes not when selecting functions one by one in the auto suggestion list.

The help window also do not update every time when selecting functions in the auto suggestion list.

Include files not opening up automatically in the editor.

Would love to get to see these working all the time.

Overall great improvement over previous versions. All the best for your endeavour.

OK. Something new here. I have to check on the "Show Tip" and "Update Help" to get - the following working flawlessly -

Quote: "The tool-tip help sometimes work and sometimes not when selecting functions one by one in the auto suggestion list.

The help window also do not update every time when selecting functions in the auto suggestion list."

But the auto-complete is not showing up automatically as I type.

I do not know why. And the include files are not opening up automatically too.

I recently activated my copy on my Windows XP machine; and all was well. After a day of using it, the IDE no longer saves the .DBPRO project files with the usual data. All projects saved contain something along the lines of the following snippet:

I'll tell you exactly what happened when this problem arised. I was working on my project, and succesfully compiled it many times before and many times after activating. At one point, after compiling my project, during the linking stage I got this error:
Quote: "Could not create C:\Document and Settings\Developer\AppData\Local\Temp\Indigo\"

Here is the log:

Furthermore, when I try to save a new project, the content of the project file is the same as above; besides the project name; no project files are listed in the .DBPRO project file.

I tried to re-install the software, but it still saves all projects without sufficient data; namely the actual .dba source files.

The FullSourceDump.dba in the TGC Temp folder contains all of the source code when I compile, after adding the source files to the open project; but the project file remains the same.

Let me know what else to try, and if you need any more information

Balid can you please make the background color of tool-tip help as yellow and the foreground text as black in bold ? This will help the
user to view the text more clearly. And lastly if you could make the size of the tool-tip window a little bigger with scroll bar so that
the whole official help doc can fit in it and the user can read the whole by moving the scroll bar - similar to in eclipse PDT development.

Fixed. Had a misplaced check.

Chris Tate,
Do you happen to have "Use a default relative path for projects" checked?

Could you may be attach a log with logging set to Med or High?

The "Could not create C:\Document and Settings\Developer\AppData\Local\Temp\Indigo\" without a file name concerns me.

Chris Tate,

That issue should now be resolved.

BFM,

Any thing specific?

Everyone,

I have uploaded the final release of v1.3.2.

Change log:
+ Line Overview - Get a quick overview of the location of functions, labels, comments, declarations, errors, and multiple instances of selected words.
+ Tab Closing - Added options to have a close button to be on the tab's themselves, double click the tab to close, or use the orginal close button on the document strip.
+ Restore Include - Added option to restore lost includes.
Save Project As - Implemented a 'Save Project As' routine that functions simularly to using templates (effectively making every project, a template).
+ AutoComplete - Added a tool tip based on highlighted command in AutoComplete.
+ AutoComplete - Added option to have the Help window update based on highlighted command in AutoComplete.
AutoComplete - AutoComplete inserts selection with [Enter] as well as [Tab].
+ AutoComplete - AutoComplete no longer activates in comments.
+ Highlighting - Added highlighting of matching brackets.
+ Highlighting - Added highlighting of multiple instances of selected words.
+ Folding - Able to fold all but this Element (Function or Label). [Right click and select.]
+ Folding - Able to select a Function or Label from the Element window and have all but that Element fold. {Activated version}
+ Goto Line - Added [Ctrl + Shift + G] to bring up the Goto Line for the project. [Ctrl + G] still brings up the Goto Line for document.
+ Text Editor - Added option to use spaces in place of tabs.
+ Text Editor - Added option to wrap text.
+ Compile Dialog - Now able to copy out of the Additional Information window on the Compile dialog.
+ Misc - Added 'repeat' feature for Keystate, Path, and RGB. {Activated version}
+ Misc - Able to cancel closing of modified source files.
Replace - Caret should now return to it's original location after replacing.
+ Pre-Compiler - Implemented a mini pre-compiler to correct issues brought up by the community that create compiler errors (that probably shouldn't). They include things like '#constant' followed by a [Tab].
+ Multiple Instances - Added functionality to better support running multiple instances of Indigo. Like the location and size of each instance is stored seperately.
+ Options - Reorganized Options dialog.
> AutoComplete - Corrected defect when pressing Enter (rather than Tab) in the middle of a suggestion.
> Intellisense - Corrected defect that prevented Functions from being properly parsed when declared without parenthesis.
> Intellisense - Corrected defect that prevented UDT members (as well as other variables) from being properly parsed when declaring them and instantiating them are not in that order. {Activated version}
> Concatenation - Corrected defect that prevented concatenation from working.
> Misc - Many minor defect fixes. Like misspellings and the 'Replace' Edit menu option.

Hi Balid,

All I know is that the bugs I've encountered cause Indigo to lock up whilst writing in remarks, causing the loss of work.

I think the problem would be fixed if you can stop intellisense from activating whist writing remarks, in Rem, ` & Remstart-Remend.

Hey folks,

Having some trouble with the final release. Nothing will compile on any project now, simply tells me that I do not have access which is obviously not the case...LOL. Never had any trouble from the BETA's either, but the final release also seems to think when I hit compile that I'm already compiling something...

So I have moved back to the old version for now.

Not sure if you saw my feature request above or not, but it would really be handy if I could have a virtual folder tree for the include files like in Visual Studio. My project looks like this:

BFM,

Sorry mate, but I'm having difficulty duplicating the error your having. I've since modified the routine to prevent auto-complete from auto-triggering when on a comment line or in a commented section (remstart-remend). But without being able to replicate the problem myself, I don't think what I did would resolve your problem. If there's anything else that could share about how you're able to repeat the issue would be very helpful. I'm sure that it is something very obscure. [I'm sure you already know this but, I would like to keep one of my best fans happy .]

gbison,

Which version, an earlier beta version or v1.3.1?

Here is the link to v1.3.2 beta 11. There's very little difference between it and the final version. A few last minute defect corrections and changing the "Include" and "Alphabetic" order radio buttons to a dropdown list.

Could you provide a screenshot of the error?

TheComet,
That's a new one. Thanks for the heads up and the exception report. It should be easy to duplicate.

The virtual folders are number 3 on my list (right after "Fix known defects" and opening Functions (and Labels) in their own window). You may have noticed the addition of the dropdown for the include order. That is to allow the selection of "Virtual" in v1.3.3 beta 2 (or 3). My highest count is only 26 includes. But I think that implementing this would greatly help in keeping things better organized. Right now I do it which just folders in the project. Being able to duplicate that folder structure in Indigo would be fantastic.

Chris Tate,
I second your second.

Yea, moved back to 1.3.1. I have tried to analyze the problem, looking for memory hangups, double executions and anything that would lead to this, but to no avail. It is almost as if it thinks I don't have permission to create the .exe. To analyze further, if I delete the previous executable then try to compile I get hit with a "permissions error", if i try to compile with my previous exe in there I get slapped with the fact it thinks I have two instances already running?

1.3.1 works fine as does the factory ide, so it would seem its definitely something in the new release. Image attached...

gbison,

Thank you for the screenshot. I'm a bit concerned because I don't see any code changes in the routines for compiling in v1.3.2. So all of the code looks to be the same as v1.3.1.

Could you turn on logging to at least Med and send me the log file for both v1.3.1 (that works) and v1.3.2 (that fails), using the same project? I'm hoping that I'll find the cause by there being something different in the log files. The log file for v1.3.1 should be just log.txt and for v1.3.2 should be log1.txt. I made an adjustment in v1.3.2 to allow for multiple instances, thus resulting in the slight name change.

On a side note, have you tried running v1.3.2 as admin?

Thank you and all the best,

Chris Tate

Hello

I am having an issue with the caret being displayed on the right of a set of parenthesises; as illustrated in the picture attached; any ideas why?

When the caret appears to be on the right, outside the brackets, the text input is placed inside.

Also, the Function tip; the grey one which shows the current parameter you are typing disappears after the first comma instead of staying visible while still entering the parameters for the function call.

Let me know if you need more info.

Jumping on board... is this still a BETA?

And this has me confused from the OP

Not sure if I should try out anything other than the default IDE... Can someone highlight the differences? I saw that UDT's? were intellisensed... is this extensive to all code? umm stick to the difference list lol...

Thanks...

The default IDE? That sucks almost as hard as 10^-13 torr.

Indigo is by far the most powerful DBP IDE out there.

You will get more done in less time. It is more stable than the default editor; and if you have used Visual Studio then you should have no trouble getting the hang of it.

You will get alot more done in less time; think of the difference between Wordpad and Word; more features, more settings and more capablities.

As Scraggle said, give it a try!

Thanks guys... the problem is... I plan to do some guides and they are video based as well as text based...

I think I should cover it using the default IDE...

I agree that the default IDE has some irritating features... like when you minimise and open up again... hate that bug... [I dignose it by opening an F1 help statement or I usually have multiple tabs open already and simply click on one of them...]

I need to have a look at this and give it some thought... as my guides will be absolute beginner focussed so the default IDE may be better to start with... and I could after a while document the transition from the default IDE to Indigo... because to be absolutely honest... reading about indigo all over the forum did not help my confidence in it... it made me consider it less and less until I eventually strolled over to this thread...

That is one of the prime reasons I link anything I mention [unless I forgot to do so at the time] and encourage others to do so as well [I do his often in Code Snippets as new users will not identify what A2D is or what an IanMs is lol]...

I will have a look at Indigo... but can someone explain the process in short? does it just install in another folder or does it replace DBP?

Again thank you guys...

I believe what you are seeing is bleed over from the font used to highlight the parenthesis. For me, it looks the caret looks as though it is inside the parenthesis even though it is to the right. Changing the font style and size will improve or worsen the effect depending on your choices.

Sorry, not able to duplicate. I think it's related to the first issue.

Thank you. I will look into that.

Welcome aboard. New releases are put out as beta's but for the most part Indigo is very stable and in my opinion past the beta stage. Thou new defects are reported from time to time. And depending on my schedule are quickly resolved.

There are few spots that don't highlight correctly, like 3DSOUND. The 3 is red (or what over color you have your numbers) and the rest highlighted as expected. Though the rest of the code Elements seems to be right on.

Quote: "Can someone highlight the differences?"
I don't use the default or any other IDE for DBP so I would not be able to provide a full list but the biggest would the Syntax Highlighting, Line Folding, Preview of Folded Lines, Intellisense for UDT's, a Line Overview (like in Eclipse), AutoComplete for Keywords and user defined Elements, Tool Tip based on highlighted command in AutoComplete, able to have a "Default Relative Path" for your project (comes in handy when your program on multiple computers. Set it once on that computer and start coding). And probably a lot more.

Quote: "does it just install in another folder or does it replace DBP?"
It installs in Program Files(x86) and writes system files to %user%\AppData\Local.

Reading where, what posts? Almost all posts that I've seen on the forums have been positive.

All the best,

Hi Balid, just recently swithched to using Indigo as my default editor over BlueIDE. The latest release has been extremely stable on both my PC and laptop and well worth the donation.
Thanks for all the hard work you have put into these IDE´s over the years and if DBProElite ever gets off the ground you get my vote as the default IDE.
Only niggles i´ve got is the highlighting of some of the add-on commands, DarkPhysics in particular, it tends to either miss the "phy
" or the last word of command for some reason? Though it does still capitalize it.Code still compiles though so no rush.
Thanks
