It's very true that Blitz 3D seems limited (for example, where is a command like "If Object Exist"? BLARGH!), but there's no denying that it's definitely faster in terms of FPS rate and easier-to-use collision detection commands (polygon collision is easy as pie to setup and fast as lightning). And I have seen some mighty impressive screen shots of games made with it, so...I'm definitely intrigued by it. But then again, I could also start learning XNA and C# and just go from there...and it's free, too.

That does sound limiting!, although i never knew about Blitz3D's quick collision(Well anything's better than DBpro's) and lighting. Meh im still waiting eagerly for nuclear basic though

So today I got 47 spam emails, only 28 of which were blocked by the spam filter. I guess someone got my email address.

Personally I learned and did more with Irrlicht/C++ than I did XNA and C#. I'd give both a shot, and then come back to DBPro for a bit, use your more complete knowledge to finish a project, then go back and finish a C++ or XNA project.
That's what I'm doing for NaGaCreMo this year.

After weighing options and features, I definitely think buying Blitz 3D would be a mistake. So I'll definitely just stick to DBPro for now, then after NaGaCreMo I'll get a lot more serious about learning C#/C++.

I still have quite a few cards up my sleeve before I start learning C++...

I reckon it'll be impossible anyways.

Just counted. I own 7 books for learning C++, one of which is DirectX-oriented, specifically RPG programming.

So yea, I learned DBPro from tutorials instead and those books are collecting dust.

Right now

is one of those times where I've done everything I usually do in a day but it's too early to go to bed, so I'm sitting here cycling through TGC-Yahoo-FML but they never change.

Guess I'll crank The Offspring and code some.

Got a little bit further in my level editor. I made the controls for the "free-flight view" better, and drew a little crosshair cursor in the center when that view is activated. Now all I have to do is add the file loading function and add the rest of the objects to the inventory list. This is manageable by December 31st, which is what I'm shooting for.

So I haven't got that much done since the last time I've posted, but I did add a couple of pretty things.

Now instead of turning transparent, a box appears around the selected object.

And that's just a cursor that appears in Free-flight View, much like any other 3D level editor. Yes, I am a copycat.

looking good, looks like you are making a cube slightly bigger and setting wire frame on, You could also try set object bounds on so you dont need to make an extra object.

Edit: Im working on an editor update, importing FPSC Entities, (See Attached Pick)...

@demons breath:

Thanks! I couldn't have gotten this far without your help and advice.

@MSon:

I'm cloning the object that's selected, then coloring it white and setting wireframe on for it. I've still got a bit of tweaking to do for it, but right now it works great and seems to be faster than ghosting the object on. Why that is I have no idea, but hey, I'm not gonna question it.

Hing-a Ding-a Dergen.

Well guys, I got electricity back. No more psycho grandmother. Except I had to reformat my computer and reinstall Windows 7 due to some kind of virus that got past both my Anti-viruses. Couldn't even log into my user account. It wouldn't let me get that far. But I called technical support and talked to a guy with an awesome accent. who helped. Even better, I did a yo-momma joke to him right before we hung up.

Pretty awesome day, not considering having all my files moved to Windows.old, which is a pain.

A nice new window to go in my editor, The "DarkBasic World Creator" Folder is where models exported from my editor end up so you can load them in FPSC.

How does one display the contents of a folder inside of DB? I want the player of my game to be able to load in a custom level without having to type in the name, and to do that I'd need a "folder" to appear inside of the program.

About 5-10 min's spent on each watching the BBc1 Day of the trifords *new* series. By the end of it was slightly tierd so the last one was just that. The middle two was me just playing.
Didnt reference just used The power of imagination...

lol...

oh an trifords wasnt all too bad, revamps of classics normally fail.

@ CoffeeCoder
do you mean to open or save a level?

If thats what you mean, then i use the bluegui OpenDialog() and SaveDialog() commands as its easier than programming a file selector manually.

To open a file in the actual game. I'll look into blue GUI for my game, it sounds really intriguing...perhaps I'll even re-program the GUI for my editor after NaGaCreMo with BlueGUI.

Looks good - but press down a little harder, get a little more definition into the shadows. This simple little adjustment can advance the perceived quality of the drawing by a long way.

Not me, my friend. Zeus and I reside in West Virginia, little bit North East of Virginia. No worries, though. But yes, I guess you could say I'm on Facebook. I only have 4 friends though, due to the lack of logging in. But nevertheless, I could send you a friend request if you'd like. I'm sure I could dig you up on Zeus' friend's list somewhere.
