Thank you! That means a lot to me

Nobody who posts in this thread frequently (which is a sizable group) agrees with your decision, so far. If a few people didn't agree, that would be one thing. But right now, nobody agrees."
True. However, as much as I hate the idea of closing such a long-running thread, Paul has made it abundantly clear that this particular thread will not remain open and I can totally see where he's coming from. For example...
Quote: "if a parent comes in here and reads some of the stuff I've seen in those few days we might lose a customer. It has become a liability."
All in all, if we're honest with ourselves, we should realise that it's a miracle the mods have allowed it to stay open for nearly 7 years. We should be grateful. We've had a good run with it, and it's been fun, but now it's time to find a cleaner alternative.
Quote: "Some people would read that as a threat."
I see it more as an annoyed and unhappy person (understandably) expressing his feelings without specifically stating them.
Quote: "This is offensive to me. You have insulted all of us by saying that; you have just implied that we have no regard to the rules. That's an unfortunate generalization for me and a few others to be caught in. I have shaped up my own personal behavior on these forums quite a bit in the past couple years. I am curious to see you point out one example of my own bad behavior on this thread in the past 6 months. I hope you meant that sarcastically."
Hey hey, now. I don't think Paul meant directed that at you specifically. I read that as, "Duh

Of course you [as in, all of us, not specifically DJD] don't agree, we're taking away something you enjoyed!" That is, I felt he was kind of joking, saying you were stating the obvious. If you can help it, try not to be offended by Paul; I don't believe he ever intentionally says anything to offend people. It probably just came out wrong.
People, let's try to not make this any more difficult for Paul than it needs to be. He's made up his mind (with good reason), and people getting annoyed at him and directly fighting his decision just makes his job harder.
Quote: "If you would like to know, the reason that I and so many other people disagree with you is because, this is a place for us to post about random, not AUP breaking, subjects. Yes, that is a magnet for a select few posters to behave poorly. Most of us on here keep it very civilized. People like me are pretty crazy; we like to talk about random things from time to time, with other people who share similar interests. We do not like to do that in order to break rules, cause havoc, and make problems for the moderators. We do it because that's one way we enjoy interacting with others. I am sad to see it go."
As am I, and I totally agree with what you're saying (really, I do!), but I am holding onto the hope that we'll end up with a good compromise to this thread. I feel like Paul would be open to friendly negotiation as to a good alternative, so I think we need to make some suggestions.
Here's mine: I kinda feel like one of the appeals of this thread (at least, to me) is the persistent nature of the posts. That is, everything we post is basically permanent. However, I understand that this could undermine your efforts to make this
not a competition and also to keep it clean. My suggestion would be something where our posts are not removed, or are archived in some way. As I say, though, I understand how this could be something you specifically want to avoid.
Quote: "This thread is almost entirely the single thing that kept me coming back to this forum and considering TGC's products."
We'll have somewhere else we can go, at least... And if you need any reason to stick with TGC... Paul has
FINALLY been going through and marking off issues in the
AGK issue board that have been fixed (something that should have been done as they were fixed)! Because until now, it's felt very much like TGC were totally ignoring that list.

Excellent idea!
