Where? The AppGameKit board, some random GC threads? Nah, with this thread gone I might as well leave the forum. Sounds melodramatic, but this thread is the only active thread on Geek Culture and the DBP/DGDK/FPSC Classic boards might as well be graveyards. AppGameKit and FPSC Reloaded(or whatever it's called now) are the only active boards and TGC decided to split what little community it had left into two different forums on different sites.

*shrug* It appears TGC values the forums as an informal tech support / feature suggestion / free QA service rather than a community. That's a shame, because it was always a nice change of perspective to come here and talk about things like Ogre or C++11 or the NSA scandals or any other number of things.

Paul this thread attracts people of several types who go to game designers who have TGC products. The thread is helpful to the company because there could be voice actors and programmers who could help benefit the games that are using the TGC products. I know that you have company to attend to, but why not lock the MLP thread if you are going to lock this thread? I bought DarkBasicPro thinking it was a hobby that would be my future, but I discovered that acting is something I am interested in. I can remember TGC by this thread which gives way to possible game creators who have TGC programs that can make games that I can act in. You see this thread is like the domino that leads to a fall of a set up of dominos. If that domino is taken away then less dominos have a chance of effecting each other. In my opinion the company should listen to the advice of the people turning away to learn from its mistakes for a new update or product. The reason Paul is that a community is being built for video game engines. I and several others have stated honest constructive opinions for games and this thread can help benefit it. It shouldn't be like Canon on DSLRs. Shut out the community that is most attracted to the DSLRs, the film makers. It should be more like Panasonic on DSLRs where they open themselves to a wide variety of people that can benefit each other and the company. Paul we help each other on this thread because it is quicker to post here than to start a new thread and wait days for a response that could be unavailable. I post an idea that is stupid someone says it is. I post an idea that is smart and it is watched and commented on. Now as for being appropriate, BigAdd and several other moderators have watched this thread and they have banned people here. I have been banned for being rude to him. Also, if TGC wanted to just have the product mentioned, then what is the purpose of Geek Culture since several games have different engines and several products are made for several other games? Nvidia is not looking at TGC now, they are looking at high end game engines like Unreal and Source. I know that it takes a lot for TGC to get up there, but TGC should try to not put itself in a cave because of the community. Name the amount of people you encounter Paul that have video game interests that talk about nothing. A lot. Guess what brings people interested in video games. This thread. Why? It brings out ideas. I wrote to nonZero my ideas for a movie I was making on this thread because this thread can't be locked. Had I wrote it on several other threads and it would be annoying to more mods than it would be annoying to mods on this thread. Had that movie be a game that I'm interested in using with a TGC product, the thread would be a huge benefit.

Your decision removes a block in the game Jenga. Pick the right block or else the whole structure falls on yourself and TGC. Not trying to offend or threaten and this is just my two cents.

Edit: Also why not try programming a you have to be 17 or older warning like TGC did for FPSC?

No, unfortunately.

No, I mean the alternative that Paul said he would consider. He hasn't said exactly what he's got in mind.

Quote: "Sounds melodramatic"

It does...

...but I see your point.

Quote: "TGC decided to split what little community it had left into two different forums on different sites."

I do think that was a mistake. I never talk on the Reloaded forums because they're on a different website.

I doubt it will affect them to such an extent, but I do agree somewhat. However it is TGC's responsibility to maintain these forums as a family-friendly place, and this thread has not been helping that image.

Hey guys finally got the darn email thing working silly host email boxes playing up...

I installed a forum app on my server and it is basic but can possibly fill in the void should it come to pass... [The Code Prettify stuff is epic!]

I intend to only allow TGC Forum user accounts, all others will eventually be deleted via new account email verification, I have a process plan in place for this... eventually it will be on a request basis to allow TGC Forum dwellers only...

Anyway, here it is and you can register your accounts with email link verification for now...

Please only use your forum username accounts as I will be cross checking from time to time... [Like my account is MrValentine]

http://www.tmsubs.co.uk/tgcforum/

I appreciate any feedback, and whether anybody would like to take up the opportunity to use it, the domain renews in umm November this year, I will gladly renew it if the site finds high usage, it is of no benefit to me, but I like to do what I can for this forum, as it is my second home from home ^^

I will post up typical things such as a general rule board etc. and it has POLLING and LIVE PREVIEWS! as well as being mobile friendly!

The domain has no affinity with my company, and as such has no reflections to issue upon, so it can maybe be an anything goes but some things will be barred...

MOD applications being taken...

Hope that helps...

[Whether anybody uses it or not, I will certainly be using that epic forum software for my company, it is epic! and I learnt a lot just by going through the process now ]

PS.

For me the Posting Competition Thread [PCT] only became active again 2-3 years ago, I believe it was revived around then...

That's cool except that I don't like forums that call posts "comments". It's just annoying, like the main topic-starting post is the only important one and all the others are just comments on that post. Still awesome that you're doing this, though, and I immediately signed up

I am currently in agreement with Paul on this matter, this thread is really hard to police, TGC have no time and the moderators don't like to check this thread/or have moved on.

We will also not take up a debate on wether a thread should be locked or not, it is up to moderators or in this case an TGC employee to decide when and if a thread is locked. Please do not post a thread debating the decision.

I will however unlock the thread (to see how it goes) if we get a moderator in place that is happy to routinely check it and the Geek Culture board, maybe one that takes part in discussions. I am in agreement that Clonkex would be a good mod for this task if he wishes to do it then please let me know at jasonlbrook[att]gmail.com so I can set everything up.

As you can see I want to be fair to all and if a reliable forum member wants to spend the time to keep a thread clean then we will allow them the powers to do so.

As a side note to keep other areas of the forum informative please keep this to off-topic chat only and post useful topics in their rightful place maybe we can revive the forum a bit more if we do so and not hide them all. I want to combine a few of the quieter boards so we get bigger more active boards, what do people think of this? Obviously in another thread.

Clonkex is the newest member of the moderator team and will keep an eye on things over here in Geek Culture and the Posting Comp.

As such I am now unlocking this thread and will see how it all goes, as I said please from now on post stuff that may benefit the wider community in the other boards. I am planning to merge some of the quieter boards so we can focus all the activity a bit more and get some good discussions going I hope.

TGC still cares about the forum here despite what some of you think in your posts, although the focus is mainly on FPSCR and AppGameKit now there is still support and a community here and I for one want to keep it going.

If the other boards weren't dead, I would. The only board that accepts C++ or Java posts is the Programming Talk board which needs a coffin and a hole at this point. This merge will indeed be welcome.

Thanks!

Quote: "What's the reasoning behind FPSCR having its own forum?"

I can't answer that for sure, but I would hazard a guess that it's the same reason AppGameKit has its own website: TGC needs to create a strong brand-image for their products. Probably, making FPSCR or AppGameKit available only through TGC main website would make it more difficult to advertise clearly and provide all the necessary information.

Quote: "Yeay, im glad we were able to get something that (hopefully) works. The thread might have issues but it's great for random discussions. Let's hope people avoid posting anything breaking the AUP "

Indeed. If anything, this merge will hopefully shake things up a bit and maybe get some more lively activity.

Quote: "Clonkex, you deserve the moderator badge! That's why you have it."

Thank you! (oops, I wrote "thanksyou" first haha) I'm not sure if "deserve" is the right word, but.... what the hey, I'm loving this big shiny mod badge

Quote: "So, Clonkex, what does the big red button look like?"

Quote: "budokaiman he has to keep his tools private."

Quote: "I don't think he does have to keep it private? Although I am not sure I have ever seen a mod post pictures of the interface."

Haha I'm actually not sure about that, whether or not I'm allowed to talk about the interface. I will say that I have no "big red button" as such (other than the standard Report button), but rather a lot of complex controls I'll ask one of the other mods if there's specific rules, but I would think that it's maybe not a good idea to go around posting pictures of the mod-controls; I can't say why, that's just the feeling I get And there's no chance I will be posting images of the lists of banned/warned users (etc.), so don't even ask. There's also some controls here that I'm scared to touch because I don't know what they do, haha

Anyway, we need to be just a tad more strict with the AUP and inappropriate content... at least for a while. Remember, the reason it got locked in the first place was primarily due to a boatload of inappropriate stuff being posted in a short period of time. The mods just got fed-up with trying to moderate it and were receiving a lot of complaint emails. For the most part, we can carry on exactly as we have done previously... but if you go to post something, and think, "I wonder is this pushing the limits?", don't post it.

I don't want to ruin the fun of this thread by any means, but if "fun" means "bad image for TGC", it can't happen. Ok? We all good with that concept?

Let the competition resume!

However, if, when you contact me, you use excessive profanity or are unreasonably angry, I will not respond. I just thought I should get that out there

There, now I can stop being all mod-like and just be me again

Can always distribute via USB stick or SD card. 64gb on either is ~$30 on amazon, though if you really want to be cool, ship it out gold plated Legend of Zelda style!

Also, stupid imageshack is becoming stupid. Used to be a great place to quickly throw up some images to link to, now they want you to subscribe to upload new stuff, and claim your old stuff will still be available if you don't, but looks like my avatar just got cut, and I've noticed some missing pics here and there on the 3d board as well.

Guess I'll just upload my avatar here for linky linky.[href]null[/href]

??

Visual studio is overkill for html, you talk about code highlighting for html docs, np++ does this very well for html, css, js, php, xml, any of the alphabet soup of web languages you name it, along with some nice text editing features in general.

Still not sure what you are getting at, although I guess I lack context... What html code highlighter have you found and where / in what are you using it to highlight code?

the pic I posted clearly shows code/syntax colorization and highlighting (like the forum code tags lang=dbp)

Ah I see. Cool So can I guess what you're making? I'll try anyway: An HTML-based BASIC editor.

@Ortu

The quickest way to upload an image anonymously for me is imgur.

lol what.

My brother just told me he pronounces "imgur" IM-ger (G as in go, not gaol). He also said everyone else pronounces it IM-jer. They're both wrong. It's IMAGE-er. That's the way I've always thought it (never said it out loud before) and it's the correct way.
