Well said, I'm disappointed by some of the games thus far, but the consoles themselves are all good and do the right thing and entertain the people they're meant to.

@agent dink- The graphics in the game post is way better than red steel, or heros 2.

heros 2 didnt have very great graphics, and red steels single player was ok but then you put on multiplayer and the quality went down a bunch. Heros 2 singleplayer is extremly crappy, but online gleams(not good graphics wise)

Exite truck had very good graphics and i think it was a game to test wiis limits, by the nice graphics, tons of things happing at once, the terrain changing constanly during the game. They need an exite truck to.

The the conduit, we will have to wait and see, you dont get the full quality from pics and videos from the internet.

And I thought the Wii wasn't about graphics? What is it--- one way or the other?"

It's not all about the graphics. When the Wii was first in development, I remember reading something from the president dude (can't remember his name...) saying something to the extent of he wants people to be more creative in developing their games and not just depend on the graphics of their games. So, graphics aren't the selling point of the wii. So, in answer to the question, no it's not all about graphics, but, I was never saying that I don't enjoy the great graphics of some games. I know the Wii will never accomplish what the 360 and PS3 can. But it does have more potential graphically speaking than what we see with some of the little kiddy games people judge the wii after.

I like the video in that site posted.

and Jeku, I also understand what you mean by not wanting to move around all the time while playing video games. And sometimes I completely agree. But other times, it's a lot of fun doing things like that.

I didn't say Heroes 2 had good graphics, but the game itself is fun. I love the way they do the shooter controls with the wii-mote. AI was disappointing to me, graphics I don't really care about as long as the game is fun.

But I was saying Red Steel LOOKS nicer than The Conduit. The stylization isn't trying to be something it can't be. The Conduit looks graphically like Half Life 1 with shaders and no other updates to the graphics :\ It's trying to be something it probably can't be graphically is what I'm getting at.

Ok, just watched The Conduit's trailer. And dang it does look fun!

My earlier judgements were based on graphics alone in the screenshots, but everything in the video looks like it will rock gameplay-wise. The framerates were excellent as well. And I dunno it might have been the video compression smudging everything together but the graphics did look better in real-time, they usually do in my experience.

Their Quantum3 engine is pretty impressive for the Wii btw. It looks really powerful for a Wii engine from that video. I like the water effects. That video lacked real time shadowing and the scenery was still pretty low polygon in comparison to most stuff nowadays but it was rather impressive for Wii visuals.

Overall impression of the game now: I'm glad a developer is pushing the limits with the Wii graphically while also making a fast paced addictive looking shooter. It'll be utilizing the wonderful Wii-Mote so I think this game is gonna be pretty good. I'll definitely look into getting it when it's out

I still think Red Steel LOOKS nicer though

Dude, calm down. Get some fresh air. I wasn't even referring to anyone here in particular It's a commentary on how Wii defenders champion controls over graphics, but when a game looks really nice (and it does), they say something like "And they did it without all the junk the Xbox360 and PS3 have... incredible." It just made me laugh. Seriously, I think you need some fresh air

Quote: "That could NOT be done on an xbox. Of course this is nowhere near 360 or ps3 ability"

Read what I posted:

Quote: "but they're still last gen"

The Wii is technically considered the same generation as Xbox and PS2. TECHNICALLY.

EDIT:

And I have seen that trailer several times before, and the tech doesn't look *that* superior to Halo 2. Maybe I'm missing something?

Oh you're right, we should start a new thread shouldn't we?

Of course mods, I'm not really going to, I'll leave it in a the hands of somebody more foolish than I.

Tbh I got the Wii because I hoped devs would seize the opportunity to make immersive, serious games that pride gameplay over graphics (and without graphics they just might try to write better stories too. Yeah, I can be too optimistic sometimes.) Boy was I ever wrong. I've got MoH: Heroes 2 and the gameplay's good but I just feel the single player is bland, plus it's ANOTHER game set in WW2 - why doesn't someone set it in another interesting historical period, like the Napoleonic Wars or the conquest of America or something? And I haven't bought Metroid 3 because... I... never finished Metroid 1 Which means my impression of the Wii has been reduced to Resident Evil 4 (which was great) and Wii sports (which was fun but got repetitive quickly). So hopefully this The Concept will bring a more serious, mature side to Wii gaming.

Although, looking at those screens - I hate to say it, but the environments sort of remind me of 007: Nightfire. (A fun game, but rather average.) Maybe it's just me.

I'm not actually a Kiwi, I just randomly thought it up one day.

This is one element I think is falling - for some games it can be a really good selling point, it worked really well with the Final Fantasies, people were so intrigued with the ideas conjured up for FFVII that were really emmersive and good that they've pretty much made a franchise out of that one game. And of course I've been trying to find plot driven games that emersed me as much as FFVI, VII and VIII (I suppose IX as well, though it wasn't as great IMO) I find it strange that in one area of gaming that really worked for Square isn't being tapped into - their games read like a good book, you connected with the characters - you cared what happened to them - as the plot thickens you want to know what happens next. And the epic scale makes it quite grand.

I don't know if I have that opinion because I'm an aspiring writer, or not - but it's one thing that clicks for me in games. Certain games that have tried using a plot but the plots can come off 2 dimensional, which everything I see that happen, I think of the money the writer was getting paid and how much I'm not earning.

Yeah the Wiimote is a gimick, yeah the Wii is weak compared to the 360 and PS3. No the Wii isn't a piece of crap. The quality of the games have been steadily increasing over the last few months (in my opinion) and lots of games have started allowing people to control it without the WiiMote, such as Mario Kart and I believe Smash Bros.
To the people complaining about the WiiMote's lack of realism I'll say this: get over it. It's a gaming peripheral, even if it was 100% accurate (and if it was, someone would be very rich by now) it just wouldn't work for games. Take Zelda, if it followed your movement exactly for sword swinging, and you got blocked by an enemy, how would it compensate for the deflection? Maybe attach ropes to the player so they get pulled back in a realistic fashion? It's supposed to be fun, and in some cases, it is. In others, it isn't, simple solution: don't buy crap games, and they might stop making them.

I like the Wii, a lot of people do, and just as many hate it, Nintendo doesn't care, they'll continue flying to conferences in their private jets lighting their expensive cuban cigars with one of the many bank notes they have lining their pockets

I like the Wii, though I still play most games on the PC over console because the genre's I play are far superior on the PC. I got a Wii for the kids a while ago and they love it. the concept of it being cheap is an illusion after buying 3 extar Wiimotes and 3 more nunchucks, charging station, the battery packs and blah blah blah still came to like $520. I like Supermonkey Ball, Elebits is fun, Wiisports gets alot of play. I look forward to the new star wars game.

Umm... wow, way to resurrect the old thread with your positive comments.

And in fact I quite enjoy Wii Sports AND Guitar Hero 3 on the Wii. Aside from no DLC on the Wii version I really could care less which console I own it on. It's still the same game... People are so touchy. It's a bloody console people and NO ONE has forced you to buy it. Goodness gracious.

Mods, can we start seeing some slaps for res'ing threads? The whole top portion of geek culture is now old threads due to a few individuals...

Agreed.

Some Guy, 1 day noob slap for every thread I find that you have bumped. Same goes for everyone else.

Maybe the annoyance of post approval will reflect the annoyance you cause to other people.
