WOW, time to go to war with Kenjar
Get ready for a debate the likes of which only Jeku has witnessed whenever we talk about political stuff

Quote: "Geez man, he can't be worse then bloody bush"
(A) I'm an extreme liberal who hates Bush, (B) I'm a registered Democrat and BILL Clinton is my hero, (C) I'm talking about HILLARY Clinton, Bill's wife, whose a closet conservative. I have a problem with any conservative posing as liberal or any liberal posing as conservative... it's just wrong. And looking at the job she's done for New York State (where I live), I can tell you beyond any reason of doubt that she'll be in the top five worst presidents list if elected
Quote: "Anyway back onto the subject. I love the way people are blaming the perants constantly . Remember modern computer technology is pretty alien to alot of them. They have no idea what the lastest system can do, they come from an age of pong, side scrollers, and where the most violence you get was an animated red sprite. How many perants to do know, have time to play computer games?"
First of all, my mom raised three kids who never killed anyone. She was a school teacher, owned a daycare center, worked with special education kids, worked on campaigns for the Democratic and Green parties, and was a seated member for three different conservation groups. Needless to say, she was and still is a busy lady. But she ALWAYS took the time when I was a kid to play video games with me, my brother, and my sister. And she was smart enough to tell me that I couldn't play doom when it came out because it was too violent, and she did that with a number of other games, too. If a parent doesn't try to keep up with what their kids do, they're lazy and incompetent and their kids should be taken away by social services, end of story. As a parent, it's your responsibility to know about video game ratings and to teach your kid the morality of violence and whatnot so they aren't as easily impressionable. If your kid plays a violent video game and kills someone, that only shows how IGNORANT of a parent you are. POOR PARENTING is the ONLY thing to blame in cases like that. Period.
Quote: "Personally I think what I'll do if I ever become a perant, is just give my kid a bunch of old games and a low spec system"
That'll be good, then your parents will hate you. And the SNES was a low-spec system... and it had Mortal Kombat, Doom, Shadowrun, and a plethora of other violent games.
Quote: "I'm sorry but that game was discusting and irresponsible of developers. Most games you act as some kind of hero, saving the day, that means there is some hint of morality within it, even with quake games you are a long warrior battling to save earth"
I take it this is coming from someone who didn't play the game. In Manhunt, you play as a guy on deathrow about to be executed. A television producer offers you the chance of a lifetime (literally)... you can go to the chair, or you can go into a rundown district of Carser city and as violently as possible murder your opponents, and if you win, you go free. It's loosely based on A MOVIE. Maybe you heard of it. It had a little-known actor in it by the name of ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER... Called
The Running Man. Same plot, same gore, and they even wore Spandex, a far more haneous crime, but did anyone open fire on that movie?
Quote: "Computer games are still very much reguarded as a teenagers play thing, and while more of these teenagers are growing up to be adults, it's not yet an adult dominated industry"
WRONG. The average video game consumer, according to NPD group, is between the ages of 22 and 31, and most games are rated M for MATURE and are targeted towards 19 to 33 year olds. God bless Game Developer Magazine.
Quote: "Look what video games did to Merranvo!"
He seems perfectly sane to me.
Quote: "There was a kid in the UK who beat someone around the head, and he boy actually said he did it because it looked cool in manhunt."
And you're saying it's all the game's fault, right? The parents and their lack of parenting skills aren't responsible in any way for how their kid interprets media images? Because I saw The Running Man as a kid and it didn't make me want to electrocute anyone, or behead someone, or any of the other gruesome stuff they showed in that flick. THIS KID'S PARENTS ARE STUPID. If that isn't obvious to someone, I question that person's sanity. Why did the parents let him play Manhunt, a game OBVIOUSLY marketed towards adults? Why didn't they teach their child the rights and the wrongs in life? Why were they so lazy that they'd let the Media do the work a parent should do, teaching them morality and such? I'll bet you a million dollars cash that this kid would have killed someone even if he'd NEVER seen a video game. Why? Because his parents were morons. Simple as that.
Quote: "Stefan's mother described Leblanc, who confessed to police moments after the assault, as "inherently evil"."
So if this kid is "inherently evil," then the game had nothing to do with it. And if he's inherently evil, why would you let your kid play the game in the first place? These parents need to be shot, seriously, to avoid them from breeding more of these hellspawn.
Quote: "In cop movies, there is some balance"
You're right. Remember how in the end of Seven everyone hugged? Or how in Lethal Weapon and Die Hard, whenever they'd kill someone they'd apologize and go visit their funeral? Come on... the nicest thing I ever saw in a violent movie was the Predator's little teaparty with the human skulls. GET REAL! For every violent video game you can name, I can name an EQUALLY VIOLENT MOVIE, and I can probably name as many as 3 for some. I DARE you to try me.
At the end of the day, violence is everywhere. Heck, even right here on the TGC forums there's violent images...
. Parents blame video games because they don't want to claim responsibility for their own lack of intelligence and teaching skills. Parents today are too self-absorbed to CARE what their kids are playing, or watching on TV or at the movies, and THAT is the real problem here. If you blame the Houser's at Rockstar for making Manhunt or Grand Theft Auto, it only proves to me and every other competant person in the world that you're incapable of raising your own children and you're looking to divert the blame to a third party, usually because you have a guilty concience... you understand how aweful you raised your brat and you need someone else to be at fault to ease your troubled soul. Kenjar, go watch Bowling for Columbine.
Anyway, onto what others said...

Quote: "Okay, little billy has access to guns, gets no counseling from school, gets picked on at school, gets into drugs and gangs and stealing and killing. There are at least 50 other factors greater than what videogames he plays that has an effect on billy and how he turned out"
How true it is. Don't blame the parent for not locking up the gun cabinet, blame the video game because he played it that day.
