How about another forum game?

In this game, someone posts a picture of something, and the first person to correctly identify the object gets to post the next picture.

Extreme close-up pictures of everyday things work quite well, but you can use any picture as long as it's not too specific (like you can't post a picture of a star and expect anyone to guess the star's correct name).

I'll start the ball rolling:
(this one solved, go to the next)

--Summarized info from following posts--

Hints given:
1) draw your own conclusions
2) it's not organic
3) the scale of the picture is approximately 1 inch (~2.5cm)

Sure, I'll post some hints.
1. It's not completely inorganic.
2. God save the queen.
3. Don't think too hard, take a break if you need to.

Ok. Here's mine.

Too early to think of hints. If you are having trouble I'll post some

Quote: "a cork"
That's pretty good. I can see that. Wrong though.
Quote: "a squid eye"
Arf. Nope. Hint 1 : It is not or never has been alive
Quote: "A pencil"
Oh yeah. No. Hint 2 : You could hide it in your hand.
Quote: "ceramic"
Dunno exactly. Don't think so. Hint 3 : The black bit is a hole
Hint 4 : It is basically a tool
Hint 5 : You are looking down at the top of part of the object
Hint 6 : It is also a container for something
Hint 7 : A lot of people (millions) carry one of these in their pocket every day (big hint)

Cheers

It was clue #7.

This game is cool, but a little too hard to find material to play with. So I'll take a different approach.

Who is this?

EDIT: Doh, I didnt read the rules good enough. Oh well, I pass then.

I took it myself, so it's nothing bizarrely extraordinary.
It's elsewhere in the forums!
