Hi

As many people will know, it can sometimes be very frustrating trying to make a game/application on your own. You get half way through and then find that you can't make 3d models etc.
I was hoping to set up a development team so that we can all work on games together and mayber even get some of them completed!!! (although i am not suggesting that people on the forums are not capable of completing a game)
The website is http://www.reaperstudios.co.nr although it has not been completed.
Anybody is welcome to join Reaper Studios, whether they are a begginer or an expert. Although i would like them to have a basic knowledge of DB commands.
It would be great if the team could consist of at least 1 each of the following:
programmer
concept creator
artist
modeller
sound recorder
musician
if you are interested then either post here or send me an email (
[email protected])

cheers

Oh... I HATE it when that happens. Poor you. I always copy and paste it in a Temporary Text Document when I'm working on long posts. Anyway, I'm not sure about your team, as I am not too great at any of the above. All I can do is program, and I'm not really so great at that either.

hi all, thanks for getting back

Quote: "The many times we try, we can't stop it..."

what do you mean?

@sixty squares
i'd love to have you in the team because you've been so helpful to me with other projects (which never got finished) especially looking at some of the work you've done

@dark swarm
love to have in the team as well, do you have DBC? cus we won't be using DBP.

@ all flamers
don't take this post as some noob trying to set up a team doomed for failure because i think it has potential. also, do not take me for a noob as i have been programming with DB since i was about 9, which means i've been programming for 4 years.

The first project will is a futuristic, space RPG. quite basic as it is our first project.

Here is the story line for it:

You play the role of The Messiah as you fight your way to victory. Choose to fight for England, Russia, America or become a pirate!
The game is not just limited to fighting, you may also ship goods around etc.

At the moment i am creating the concept art, which should be ready to post in about a week. I am also starting on the craft physics.

This sounds like a cool game! I hope you can pull it off, as I'd like to see how it ends up, if it's ever even created. If there is a way that I can help I'm be glad to help out (long as it's not "Code the whole game and put me in the credits only" lol.)

lol, thanks a lot!

could you do some coding, but don't worry, i won't make you code loads! before the coding starts though, every single aspect of the game needs to be worked out. i've already started work on the transition from space to a planet.
would any body here like to do some modelling?

I'll code a little... Just don't make me be first, as I am probably one of the most unorganized coders here I'm learning organization though.

I guess it would help if you actually read the thread before posting.

To everyone else: I am not saying this is unlike many other people that want to design a game and have the rest make it for them, I'm just quoting what he said.

common people are walking in line.

I read the thread, what I actually ment was, like you said, if he was going to take job as leader, and then everyone else whould make the game for him, or would everyone be equal.

soz, i've been on holiday.

Quote: "I read the thread, what I actually ment was, like you said, if he was going to take job as leader, and then everyone else whould make the game for him, or would everyone be equal."

i'm not that sort of person, i'm team leader and programmer. but a game like this will need a hell of a lot of organising before it actually starts getting coded. which means i won't be 'coding' the physics for a while. but that doesn't mean i'll sit back and let everyone else plan it all out. it's school holidays for me so i'm using all my spare time to plan it all out.

it also means that i don't let people do the things i can't do. e.g just cus i can't do 3d modeling doesn't mean i'll let the modeller come up with all of the model ideas. i put it down on paper, and if they can model it then so be it. if not, i make it simpler.

oops, i didn't mean that. what i mean is, say i can't model (which is perfectly true) i won't make them design and make all of the models just cus i can't model myself. i'll design them and give it to them to make, that way it's a joint effort. but also i'm not stopping them from having a go at designing one themselves, everyone gets a say in things.

hope that explains it better.

if it didn't then... basicly, i don't make people do have to do the work that i can't do.

humm..sounds like sumit i wouldnt mind being involved in, considering the speed at which i learn the language

Just one question?

Why dive straight into an RPG? i tried making a SHORT one using Visual Studio.Net and even that took ages to do (and wasnt very good).

Why not start with sumit smaller, get every1 used to each others coding styles and check out each others experiance and stuf. Make a short Racing Game or sumit. Something Challenging, but not TOO challenging

Hi, even though I've moved onto DBPro, I'll do some modelling. I'm trying to improve my modelling skills, so any little job will help. Don't get me wrong, I'm not making tons of big models for you guys, just the small things

It'll help me with my modelling and texturing skills. I'll do things like Tables, chairs, barrels, maybe some monsters or little characters. I'll see what I have time for.

thanks for getting back everyone.

i've started with an RPg because i wanted a bit of a chanlenge. it won't be an amazing complex rpg, just a simple one (because this is the first time i have attempted an rpg)

Quote: "Why not start with sumit smaller, get every1 used to each others coding styles and check out each others experiance and stuf. Make a short Racing Game or sumit. Something Challenging, but not TOO challenging"

now that's a very good idea. i'll get back on that one in a minute.

@The ARRAYinator

i've seen your maze runner programme and thought it looked very good, nice work there! that would be excellent if you could do some 3d models!

i imagine that modelling will start once the concept art is completed (which i'm working on now) although it might take a bit longer than expected because it took me about an hour just to draw one ship.

@accel leon
too bad how about doing some concept idea work? if u want 2.

@ginga
i'd love to have you helping!!!

@xenocythe

thanks for your offer on the modelling! don't worry, i won't make u model lots of complex things!!!

so as it stands, we have:

programmers: the wilderbeast | sixty squares | ginga | Gamedesign er20
modelling: xenocythe | The ARRAYinator

please correct me if i'm wrong (this is just my understanding of things )

looks like we have a team forming!!!

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m283/wilderbeast92/100_1202.jpg

hope u like it

i have also sent out an email to all of the team members (except the arrayinator because he doesn't show his email) telling them the password for the forums, please may i request that you post all models, code etc. on the forums (reaper studios) in the relevant place. please do not post it here but by all means, feel free to post screenshots here, only code and models and audio not to be posted here.

thanks

i'd like to see everyones programming skills in action, so would all of the programmers please come up with a planet demo>>> must include:

all 10 planets (including sun)
a random thing at the end (that has nothing to do with the planets demo)
textures (if possible)
camera movement
tidy code

i am not expecting moving planets etc. just position them at the start. if u want to do that then you can.

here is mine

Ummm yeah about the planets thing? I don't know the next thing about planets... Looks like I'll have to do a bit of research. Oh, and should this be made in DBC or DBPro?

EDIT: I tried your demo and it got all messed up! The names of planets were flashing all over th place.

@lukas w

i would love to have u in the team! i've seen some of your work and it's...amazing!!!

the planet demo (if possible) should be made in DBC, but you don't have to if you don't want to. as long as your code looks good then i don't mind!!!

i think we have enough programmers now!!!

@lukas w

very nice lense flare effect! might be useful later on.

Right, just to know where we are, i would like everyone to say what job they are doing, just so i know who's who.

so to start off>>> The Wilderbeast | Programmer

Gentlemen, the time has come....

It looks like we have a basix team sorted, so we must crack on and start planning out this game. I figuired out that we should start with the ground and build from there up. so, first we need to plan out a map of sector 24 (done that, will post it shortly) then we need to map out the main planet (Hanovarian), please tell me if you don't like the name. i've worked out that it will have 5 cities (the main planet), as all of the planets are extremely small. Once we have mapped out the cities (which will also be small) we will start creating the landscape. after that we will model the buildings and other objects. once that is sorted all we need to do is work on player controls/physics.

this is the first hurdle, it is the most difficult stage in making this game. once we have passed this the rest will be a lot easier as we will know each other and their stlyes better (hopefuly).

i will post the space map and map of hanovarian shortly.

good luck everyone
