Although several of the gifted talents here are involved in this project (or sold us model / media for creation), I feel that it`s time to show the game here, too.

"Anderson & The Legacy of Cthulhu" is based upon the work of H.P. Lovecraft as well as on the secret societys roaming around in the 3rd Reich (Thule, VRIL...). The Game itself is more a first person adventure, but as the FPSC is used, there are also some shooter elements. It`s similar to Penumbra, but with a heavier load of story telling and more directed into horror. Although we`re not working on base of the "Call of Cthulhu" Pen & Paper Rules, we have a cooperation with Pegasus Press (German Licensee of the P&P).

Adventure Part works with a simple internal inventory, but allows for combination of items and riddles like "get a radio, crush it against the wall, take the battery and use it for fixing the power box of the elevator!"

Storytelling is done by A) InGame, B) filmed Cutscenes (taken in HD, yeah!), C) Artworks and Audiobook sequences during loading times. Game will have 15 chapters (levels), we`re level complete and in Polishing stage at the moment.

What did I forget? Oh yeah, Screens of course:

Here some tryouts with the tomb-pack (which is one of the best packs imho) during designing of the later levels:

Here a smaller one of these tries:

Here our "testing" room for our new Segments texturing:

Here one of the storyboards we used for story progression and filming:

And here a downsized shot from one of the cutscenes (sorry for the lousy quality, taking still pictures out of movies is not one of my strenghts):

Very impressive, I especially like the cutscene. Perhaps you could email BatVink and get it in the newsletter for May.

"costyme of wermacht"

No, these were real uniforms from WWII. One of my relatives is Director of a WWI / WWII museum and he borrowed me authentic stuff. However, the insurance for those parts was pretty expensive

The trailer was no real trailer, just a study and the publisher forced us to release it - it contained not a single frame of real ingame and movie stuff ^^

But a new, real one is ready and will be released within the next few weeks.

Here some Pics, I´ll make better one next week for Press & Online Mags, then I`ll have more:

http://www.hrmc-management.com/anderson/aktuell.JPG

And here something about our work right now - exchanging textures that do not satisfy us:

http://www.hrmc-management.com/anderson/andersonpolishing_textuvergleich1.JPG

Note: As you may have noticed, the screens with the pentagramm have no weapon at all. This is because instead of a weapon, an active spell is choosen, here "Rage of Hastur" (Lovecraft Readers will know a little bit about that). Our magic system consists of two different spell classes:

1. Destructive spells: Are replacing the weapon and acting similar to a weapon and cost mana (which acts like ammo).

2. Supportive Spells: Are activated via key shortcuts and always available, but costing blood (health) for the ritual and decreasing your mental health, which is calculated in a backgroudn script and affecting your behaviour.

WHAT THE I was doing a Cthulhu game called Precipice of Madness but I didn’t want to infringe the copy right now you've blooming got there before me DARN IT what’s also annoying me is that your game looks better than mine I wanted to use rpg elements but I didn’t have the skill any way as my anger subsides I've got to admit your game looks really good I'm a huge fan of Penumbra and the call of Cthulhu video game and tabletop rpg and if you can pull it of I could be a real treat

@small fish:

There is almost NO copyright on the "Cthulhu myth" as Lovecraft has stated in his last will that his ideas shall be "public domain" for all authors following his ideas. However, if you use information, game mechanics or rules from the Pen & Paper RPG, you need a license from Chaosium.

If you make a "Cthulhu" or "Great Old Ones" game - you can do that without asking anyone. But you should try to stay close & true to the myth, otherwise angry cultists from all over the world will chase you chanting "I-äh! I-äh! Cthulhu fthagn!"

How much money cost license from Chaosium?
BTW are you not from JooWood? And can you register on czech forum of FPSC, but I'm now deleting spamboots.
It'll be a commercial product? I think it's looks like Indian Jones adventure.

What type of enemy models do you have? I'm a huge Lovecraft fan and plan to make a game in the cosmic horror genre myself, but I also do custom models. My usual price is $60.00 USD for a custom model but given the nature of the creatures they would require custom animations and skeleton wich tends to get a bit pricey. Contact me if you are intrested.

@small fish: Title sounds really good, when we`re finished with producing our game, I will gladly help you a little bit.

@Drapes: thanks ^^

@Johny English: I don`t know the license fee, as we didn`t need one, but I guess it`s more than anyone of us could affort.
And yes, I am "Ivan Ertlov", I`ve been working for JoWooD for many years and on products like SpellForce 2, Gothic 3, The Guild 2 and so on - but I was always on the Publishers` side of business, never on the one of the developer. That`s a new experience, but my connections are helping a lot.
The game will be sold in stores, distributed by well-known companies, but it will be very cheap. The DVD containing the game, the Movies in HD (in addition to the cutscene versions), Bonus material provided by Pegasus, Short Stories, Comics, Artwork Posters and a soundtrack with some of the best indy / underground music around will be somewhere between 15 and 25 US$.
BTW: Kde je to cesky forum?

@Disturbing: Our Boss models from the myth are custom-made by uberdroid, who also did the gravematter package. He`s already used to my shouting around "We need more tentacles! TENTACLES!!!". However, if you are really good and FAST (from Idea to fpsc-ready, stunnning creature within 1 week), we could make a deal about one or two models for standard enemies. Contact me at jertl[at]jowood.com - and we pay a little bit more than 60 bucks

Here some Pics from one of the last cutscenes, where anderson comes back out of the dimension portal, just tu fall into the arms of mad scientist Prof. Merens and Heinrich Himmler himself.

Leaving the Portal almost dead:

Now from the view of Anderson, laying on his back and staring to the ceiling, while Merens and Himmler look down at him: (Note: The motion blur in the first pic is intention because it`s the scene where he opens his eyes, completely dizzy)

OK, after talking to my colleagues we`re showing you some other screens, a little bit older ones (these are with non-polished graphics, the optic will be increased heavily, but LD is pretty much the same):

Survived a Shootshout in an Storage Hall:

Playing around (testing) with a pillar (TOmb Pack is so great, would the creator of it pls contact me at jertl@jowood.com, he`ll get some gift from me!) rising out of water with a conker on it:

And here the "Other World" - Attention: The floors, pillars ceilings and wall textures in here were made by a 17 year old pupil from Germany who joined our team last months. He`s great in his job, I`ll show you more next week:

I saw your other screenies they look good.
Great level design...and i must say GREAT use of lighting.
I had to look a few times to see if this was made with FPSC.

I like the coming of this game it has a certain feeling to it.
And the textures looks superb (the retexture that you made).

And of course it is great to see my pack in a great game like this.

Love to see more of this game!

Thank you all for the motivating feedback, but don`t forget that this is in no way "My game", it`s the teams` game. I´m just the Teamleader and one of two Game / Level Designers, while the game crew consists of 7 people, and in addition to them another 15 were working on the cutscenes and nearly a dozen of voice actors from the German community have contributed to the game.

And don`t forget that we couldn`t do such a game design without the work from others, like Cheese Cake, Rolfy (The way the dragon shoots was inspiring our attack spells) or Helix (Their 100% bug-free ladders saved the day in 2 or three of the levels). And there were tons of other inspirating things within these and the German boards - so we are putting all these together into one game, but the roots are deeply within the whole fpsc / TGC community.

No problem we`ll gladly do this. And we have indeed a Shoggoth and perhaps even a smaller shoggoth left

Now here for three more screenies out of the secret dungeons hidden deep under Castle Landers, still work in Progress scenery, there are even some stock media entities left in there we`ll have to replace :

And a special message to Rolfy: I`ve seen your locked (?!?) thread, would you like to join our team? Or did you ever think about freelancing for games? If you`re interested, please contact me (jertl@jowood.com, you know...)

rolfy is one of this forums best animators I hope you get him and as for the shoggoth I was joking I never thought anyone would give away a free shoggoth model In my game all I could use was a retextured werewolf while the model was good my textures weren’t but really I shouldn’t ask people who worked hard on there model to just give it to me it would be immoral so if you do feel like giving to me (no pressure) just email it to me but I won't nag

Ertlov if i may.

I had to take a few looks at those textures and i saw them somewhere else...

Those are arroway textures but i am not accusing you of something
(because maybe you bought them)
I just wanted to ask you.
Firstly did you bought them?
And secondly if you did, what is the license?
Cause maybe i would buy them. (the dvd)

But i never saw that on the side maybe you know...
Because you can download them for free...
Can you use them ingame i never saw the license.
I just want to make a few segments with some of their textures...
I dont want to sell them or give them away just for own use.
Is that possible?

Sorry for asking.

Other than that.
You have some great screenshots...
Great use of lighting!
Great use of placing entities!
And great use of rooms not to big or to small!

In short words:
Its great!

Hi Cheese Cake,

you`re right - some of those are Arroway textures. And we bought them, as I already told in the thread about the "model pack with the stolen arroway textures".

The price is 45 Euros (~65 USD) per Edition (wood, tiles, concrete...), and if you buy them, usage (even commercial) and modification is license-free.

It`s worth the money, but you`ll still have plenty of work to make out of textures like 9000*5700 Pixels good Textures for your segments.

However, Arroway textures make about 30% of our textures, 10% is stock media, 30% from other packs and the final 30% are 100% selfmade, like here:

And now i know that it is commercial free.
I will consider it if i would buy those.

Thanks you have been a great help!

It`s pretty much low poly, most of the details are transported via textures, and we use the light mapping to cover to add a more detailled look without getting frames down.

However, the min. specs for the game will be Athlon 2800+ / 512MB / Geforce 6600 or equal, and for optimal performance you`ll need a Core2 or X2 Prozessor running inside.

Ertlov,

THis is looking great man. I'm secretly annoyed to see that someone else is using my decal light trick...thought I could keep that under wraps for a while longer...lol.

Anyway, I think it's shaping up to be a really nice project, although I have to ask, are you REALLY going to use the conker model in there? It just doesn't seem to fit with any of the scenery or video.

That aside, I'm loving the textures and scenery, although the shot you reposted, where the player has a blaster and there are centurion statues...I just don't like it. There are like, medieval statues, scifi windows, and wooden flower boxes... it's a bit messy thats all. Other than that, I'm impressed. It's good to see such a polished project coming along.

Butters.

PS, check out the character design here
I'd be up for doing some stuff, if you're looking.

I just ordered and paid Lyte:FX and five minutes later I discovered I already bought it on the 1st of march. But I never got an email with a link or file... (Both transactions made as GuidedWin).

OK, I hope & guess we`ll get this clean, beside of that, some replies to your points:

The game is based upon upon the Pen & Paper Campaign "Himmlers Schoggothe" written by Sam Miller (who was inspired heavily by H.P. Lovecraft), he also acts as executive producer, so we`re a little bit bound to his original.

The mixture of these elements is pure intention and logical within the scenario, if we hadn`t the tomb pack we would create exactly the same elements in order to come close to our original. The flowers have a mystical and gameplay importance the player discovers in the level before. (Actually he has to seed and grow up plants, it`s one of his quests)

However, the blaster is only there because a print magazine wanted an "action shot" of that level and in there you`re only equipped with spells & mana.

So I had the same feeling about that particular level, but I guess it`s a matter of taste- I`m not happy with it, you see it as "messed up" a little bit, and the gaming journalists and beta testers like / love it. Germanys hugest PC Gaming magazine "GameStar" choose this shot out of many others for being printed in the latest issuel. That`s life...

And I really like the conker model, that`s my personal view, for me it`s the best of the stock models, and in that chapters where it appears it`s also backed up by the story. But I`m pretty willing to replace it if I get something better!

That`s the point:

If you have models or even better fpsc-ready creatures fitting into bizarre horror environments or into WW2, I`d love to use them. Uberdroid is making the boss enemies, disturbing13 is about to create a mutated nazi soldier, but the more, the better.

And of course I pay good and fast if the quality is satisfying, but we would need them really fast because we are almost level-complete and the game will have to be finished in 3 weeks.

Please contact me at jertl@jowood.com, thats the adress I use every 15 minutes - not only because of chars, but also because of the Lyte:FX issue.

Greetings!
