I've not been all that impressed with the motion sensor controls.. I mean they're fun, but it feels more limited.
For me while Zelda was fun with the Wii controls, in the end I found myself getting bored after an hour or so of play. Traded it in for the GameCube version.. yeah slightly poorer graphics, but can just sit there having a blast for ages.
It's the same on the PS3, while (i believe) ever game has sixaxis control of some sort; you can turn it off on all of them (except lair aparently). Honestly it is turned of most of the time I play on the PS3.. if I fancy messing about for a bit I'll turn it on. That said not many games have really used it extensively or in any particular useful way that actually enhances the gameplay.
Guess that might actually be the issue with all of this. I mean either you get the Wii stuff where it's far too based on a technology that literally knackers you to play and using a technology that imo just isn't ready yet (or atleast they need longer figuring out how to develop less buggy input code or hardware) so it ends up being nothing more than a passing phase that once in a while you'll enjoy. Certainly as hell couldn't have the Wii as my only console. It'd kill my console gaming spirit tbh
The graphics issue between the 360 and PS3 is fairly moot imo
Both have practically the same graphics hardware; and yeah you can say "oh but the PS3 has more teraflops" thing is that's under specific controlled circumstances and on a fixed pipeline. The RSX is not a GeForce 8800! it's a 7900. While yeah the 360 has last gen tech as well, they had the superscalar shader core in that version.
So performance wise both machines end up being able to do roughly the same. It is the same with CPU performance from my experience.. and yeah I've heard the argument "Carmack said that the Cell is difficult to program and has yet to be unlocked to it's full potencial"; frankly while it is a neat idea, performance wise it is still very close to the 360 Xenon processor; if not a little slower due to memory restrictions.
Also can't say anything nice about the Sony/IBM devkits for it, or how to program for multi-core on the damn thing. In-fact if I never see the code side of the PS3/Cell ever again I'll be able to die happy. That fun I bet will be just more so programming for Linux AND 8 Cell processors (or Broadband Engines.. pfft checkout the new Amiga CPU if you want to see how a real broadband network processor is suppose to be made; beats the Cell by 2x bandwidth with a simple dual 64-bit address bus over the 384-bit Cell has. Perhaps cause it actually manages better than rather than killing the instruction processor to do a task!)
Dunno, in all really. ya'll probably know how much I dislike PS3, partly because of Sony, partly because of my development experience with it that still haunts me, partly because THERE ARE NO FREAKING GAMES. I don't care at this point in an experience that "is living" ... I just want to actually have more choice than the damn release titles.
Oh but I forgot I can always watch the more expensive bluray that doesn't enhance anything enough to be worth the cost over dvd (or that I have many movies, as I prefer gaming) or ya know PS2 games.
So really right now it comes down to the fact that I spent a butt-load of cash to have a system that is a pain in the arse configuration wise to play my PS2 games in lower quality.
About theonly highlight is the recent release of Heavenly Sword, which I still don't have.. but then again after that demo, is there much more to it than graphics that quite frankly didn't make me go "WOW the PS3 REALLY DOES HAVE MORE POWER!", probably because it felt like Shadow of the Colussus but with prettier graphics; and the battle system replaced with a "bash buttons until you make me do something cool because the same combo will never do the same move twice ever! we've just filled this disc with combo moved that randomly string together for kicks!" system
: sighs :
Despite the Xbox 360 having hardware issues, that honestly I've not come across any that weren't my own doing so far; and I think it is users and rumours blown out of proportion (coughgciskiddyconsolerumourcough) reality is.. it's cheaper, and a damn sight easier to just use and play. Bollocks to back compatibility (which actually is quite good now) when the Xbox didn't actually have that many good games to begin with; I'm surprised anyones noticed how bad it is for the 360 given I could've sworn everyone just had Halo/Halo2 for it. It's only muppets like me who actually bought the handful of other decent games.
But then again who cares when within 2 years of release there is a library of 1,000 titles to choose from for the 360. Quite frankly this feels like history repeating if you think of Sony as Nintendo and Microsoft as Sony.. Nintendo are Sega if the DC had actually done well.... i guess lol
still my point is; it's all bollocks. you have the system you like most by now. if not either get with the program and get a console else keep playing your PC games and hush up.
Sony PS3 owners quite trying to pick apart the 360 because Sony screw you. They screwed me too; and frankly I still have the console because of games that will be exclusive.. but if Sony think they'll make money from the games not machine PERHAPS THEY SHOULD RELEASE SOME. Yeah it's fan-freaking-tastic having the most powerful console on the market is nothing show us that it is and makes us feel our HDTV for the bedroom fun hasn't gone to waste.
I mean it's like buying a ferrari to drive around LA in rush hour; why?! it'll just end up as a posing car, you'll never get to actually drive it like you want to.. so what was the damn point?! Cause Elonzo promised to build a race track near LAX? But the time they finish that, the next bigger and better breeds will hit.
And that's exactly how it feels to be a PS3 ower.
The Wii feels too much like.. i dunno, but it certainly isn't long term fun like the GC was.
imo the 360 is the only god damn console that is designed to play games, to write game for; sure it has those extra bobbles but you know what you see at boot? Something that tells you HOW good you are AT GOD DAMN GAMES!
To me that's the point in a games console. Not to be a replacement for Yoga (see Wiis new "expansion controller") and not to do everything on earth bar play games.
Seriously Sony, I don't care if the PS3 can walk my dog, take out the garbage, play DVDs and grill waffles all at the same time if it can't sodding have the one thing that makes it what it is suppose to be a GAMES CONSOLE. If you want to damn well have more multimedia abilities stop pissing about with the Consoles and make it official that you're a god damn PC.
Let's see how well the PS3 does against where Mr. Gates formed his borgist empire. Windows! Yeah PS2 115million sold... whoopdy-freaking-do. Dell sell more PCs than that a year, Windows shifted more than 80million copies this year alone for VISTA alone!
That's why Sony haven't moved from the console market, they know full well they can't compete against Windows and the PC. Despite claiming to be able to.
It's funny to see Microsoft rather than waiting for the game to come to them have started kicking Sonys ass on the territory they stole from Nintendo with Nintys on tech in the first damn place.
Well anyways.
I hope you get to play with the PS3 Cell BEs because you'll probably be able to laugh at what Sony call a "console" on the inside.
