How do you get a video as a background? Would like that for my desktop!

1) Make sure you have linux (If windows use vlc)
2) Download xwinwrap and use it.
Its kinda buggy tho, i have heavily modifed mine and its starting to work quite nicely still one annyoining bug with show/hide desktop.

If you use nautilus your icons will hide when using video as background.. You can see them if you set opaque to video tho. Ive already sent suqqestion to nautilus team about native video wallpapers =)

At the moment I have a lot of things to do and do not have the time to set it up on my desktop, but later, when I got the time, it would be awsome !

I don't take my desktop as seriously as most people, so it usually looks a lot like Violent Pigeon's, but once in a while I'll clean it up and it looks like this...

Why would anyone want a video playing on the desktop? Surely you should be looking inside a program/window and not at your desktop, seems like an awfully big distraction and a waste of processing power.

I am one of those people that turns off almost everything that isn't needed, like window min/max animations and most of the fancy vista stuff.
I click minimize, its because i want it gone, not because i want to watch it float down to my taskbar.

I've used Azureus for some 3 years but after it became more and more retarded, it made me switch to µtorrent. It was pretty good before the vuze-syndrome.

I was like that too, but then i got bored installed ubuntu.. Saw that i had many room for eye candy and even for video desktop and played around The video desktop does not distract me.. Its because of the low transparency. You could also have video desktop that is just relaxing (Imagine forest with swinging leaves and grass and so on..)

But yeah i also made hotkey to disable video and all window effects when im playing or need more speed =)

I also disable all visual effects. My xp is set on the classical-greyish-w'98 style. However, whenever i have to work on something i either listen to music or put a movie. Thats how things work for me. Other peaple get distracted, but i get inspiration.-

Haha

Yeah i massively prefer the clearlooks theme to windows default. I just cant stand the plasticky/metal look so many themes try to create. I like it simple and clean, and if it happens to be an ubuntu skin then I guess I had to

That's a Gnome skin.

And I'll have you know, I was getting ready to ask you how you got MSN working in Linux, and how well steam was working for you. Before I saw WMP... then I knew your deep dark secrets...

The current desktop on my new 24" 3.06GHz / 4GB iMac

The screen on this thing is amazing! I'm also very impressed by its graphics. I didn't expect much, but being able to play Bioshock at 1920x1200 with every setting on 'high' made my day

Another one, this one just to demonstrate the obsessive amount of dock icons I have. I need to start using stacks more often.
I'd just like to add that I'm very impressed by this screen. It's extremely bright.

Quick question: does the Gnome skin work for only one user...i.e., could I download that skin and use it on only one account on this multi-account PC?

I love the skin, but I don't think the rest of my family would like it...especially if I changed it randomly.

Wow! I've been browsing WinCustomize for a while now and I can't believe all of the awesome skins I've found!

draknir_, if it hadn't been for you I wouldn't have discovered the amazing world of skins.

My question above still applies though: can I changes the look of just one account out of 5 on this XP machine?

I'm glad I could help

There are some pretty cool skins available. Most of the really interesting ones use Windows Blinds though, a piece of software you have to pay for, so I stick with the free visual styles. DeviantArt has a LOT of stuff, but there are also some other good sites. Just google for 'XP visual styles'.

I think that if you install a visual style, it will be installed for every account on the PC. I'm not sure if there is a work around, but it's worth googling because people come up with crazy solutions for all kinds of things like that.

Visual Styles are user specific. They may INSTALL for everyone, but i know that on the family's computer one sibling uses classic another uses XP Gray, and another XP Blue.
