The helicopter is from Cosmic Prophets Modern Warfare Pack, free from the models and media section of the forums

My game has been moving along really slow. I mean SLOW! But it is progressing none the less, and here are some way pre-alpha shots to keep you guys interested. These (especially the tunnels) are maybe 50% done. The first set are my own original approach to Upriver and the 2nd set are a minor remake of Wake Island (classic BF series map) as a connection level in Operation Aurora.
Upriver Part 1

So yea, these arent gonna be the best lookin ones yet, as they ARE NOT 100% COMPLETE, but I assure you they will soon!

Looking good mate!

Just one thing, why are the thugs in the third and forth screen shining? Maybe a bloom problem?

DEMO RELEASE!
This link can be found on original post too

http://www.gamefront.com/files/20606426/Battlefield+Bad+Company+2+Demo.zip

Here is a demo release of Cold War (Mission 2 of the campaign.) This is a 4 level recreation of Cold War from Bad Company 2. The demo does have a readme file which has a small list of known issues, and hopefully nothing that will prevent the game from working. As mentioned, there are known issues, and I am working to solve them. If you come across any that are NOT mentioned in the readme file, please feel free to post them on the forums. The current compatibility and stability of this build is considered ALPHA and I can therefore only offer limited support and help to people who are experiencing issues.

Enjoy!

ok here is somthing to be looked into.

when you are near the 2 soldiers by campfire, i would put some invisable wall segment by the top left hand side by the tree to stop you going of the main route/path story way.

Sorry if it looks like im picking wholes in you game already, but to have game feed back and to iron out bugs is a must in my books

@spudnick

No, no, no! I am GLAD you are picking holes in my game! Both of these bugs you found, the jeep and the invisible wall that is needed, are 2 very good finds. The jeep's collision problem is a result of me forgetting to remove ischaracter=1 from the fpe, so that is now fixed, and Ive placed more invisible walls to lock in the player on the set path. Thanks for your finds, and I hope you enjoyed the game

It is a little criticism.

AI.
AI unbelievable stupid. That with allies that without them - the advantage is not present. Only under legs are confused. Too most and to enemies concerns.

Sound.
Characters, guns are not bad sounded, only on shots it is too much echo as though the sound has been recorded in a toilet. Pleasant music
You know translation of Russian phrases? For example I have heard such phrase: ' I throw light to a pomegranate '. . Boats and so do not throw pomegranates, and here also light.
Only with one phrase has got, which sounds: ' the Enemy in an operative range ' (mission with the tank) and all. Other phrases about any pomegranates.

Similarity of maps with original BC 2.
Yes, I have seen some similarity, but the majority has been added by something new.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand the most interesting. BUGs!!

The AI to me is the biggest thing that needs to be changed. A few sounds and about that bug that hakuta found out, I guess that you could put invisible segments on top of them.

Glad to hear more people finding bugs and such, and I will definately look into as many as I can and try to sharpen the AI. I will not be able to resume progress on the game for a week or 2 so it will be a while before more updates come around. In the meantime, more bug finds, etc would be appreciated. For the record, you don't even have to jump up the trees to reach the clifftops. I just simply walked up the cliffs...
It'd probably be best to put some invisible walls around all cliffs, as it seems nothing but vertical walls can stop the FPSC player controller.

I'll give the game another run soon, I received a crash to desktop bug when loading level 2. What I did play was pretty neat though.

Sorry there. Wasn't able to download it yesterday. My internet was being the slowest it's been in a while (I was getting 70-80kb/s as opposed to the normal 350+ kb/s). So I'll start downloading now

Edit: Well, I was able to play through the second level. I died on the third, but I didn't save my game. So I went to restart the game, but it crashed.
I did find a bug in the second though. Right by the jeep with the 3 or 4 Russians, the staircase had some obstacle on it. But it you just ran up to in and jumped, you could clear it, no problem.

I played the game.Here's review.

Designing=I really like your design and you put your entities in
the right place.Well done but you need to keep practiced.
8/10

Atmosphere=Its awsome and the atmosphere is really fit with your
game.I just give you 9/10(hey thats to many hehe)

Gameplay=I think its fun but this game is bit lag.I only got 29-35
fps.As all people said,use invisible wall.5/10

So thats all for today.I think this game is the best fps ever and you showed toward all people that FPSC can do more awsome game!.Well done and keep it up.

Why don't you use the ai from mp53? Or atleast the scripts from them?

EDIT - I was on page 3 of 4 when i commented this, sorry if this doesn't make sense. It had to do with people not liking the Ai..

MP53 AI uses up almost 2 to 3 times more memory during the builds, and caused constant crashing. I will work on perfecting this current AI now that I have time

I was unaware of that, sorry... Well im downloading the demo right now so i will give some feedback when it's done!

EDIT - So i just played the demo, very fun! I was into the whole time! Then i kind of got really dissapointed. Now i don't know if this is what is supposed to happen or not, but once the second level loads the game crashes to my desktop. I tried running as administrator and not and it still crashed. Im using a 64 bit computer if that matters?

Also, in the first 2 minutes i got out of the map When you start, turn around and run until you hit the inv. wall, then go to the right until you hit the fence. So now you are in a corner, just run and jump and your guy should go flying up in the air. All i did was land on the tree and jump to the cliff. Then from there i followed that until the end of the level, never shot at once I attached a screenshot..

@ Susysyay,

We had seen the YouTube video and enjoyed it. When we came across the demo, we were anxious to try it out. For an outdoor game, you did a very good job.

The FPS held at a constant 30+ for us, and never experienced any issues at all. I enjoyed this development for various reasons- one of the biggest being our developments also use a lot of outdoor levels and I enjoy seeing other developers levels to see where I can improve on certain techniques. For example, I tend to forget little things like plant placement, or my tree placement. Mind you, BlueFox usually does all our cosmetic detailing on the levels. It is good for us to learn little tips and tricks all gleaned from simply playing another's development. Another example is the use of "invisible" walls. I like how you had them placed to "herd" the player in a specific area. I forget that sometimes, but thanks to playing your demo, I've noted that for my future usage.

One little thing I had noticed. At the start of the second level, there is that set of stairs you go up on the left. When I was approaching the stairs, I noticed the corners where the walls form the corner were "flickering". I've noticed it in my developments as well, and I usually place things like a tree or a pole there to block it. It may have just been my system, and it was nothing to concern me.

Over all, we learned a couple of things from your hard work. I made a mental note on a few entity placements for outdoor levels. Your usage of packs (for example- Cosmic's Cave pack, Snow & Ice, and other media) is great. you have managed to blend all the media to fit together nicely. The music was excellent.

This is definitely a game I would buy and play over and over.

The level 2 crash has yet to be completely tracked down and fixed, but a level reload usually fixes this. I believe it has to do with the memory cap being so close to the 1.85GB limit, so I will have to toy around w/ this. Once again, this is Alpha status, so I cant really offer too much help.

Yep, just load the level again. I recommend doing saves often so you dont have to replay the entire game if it crashes or something (but if you do wanna play through it again, fine by me!

Level 2 design wise is done. All the AI and sound and all that stuff is in place. The optimization, however, is not. I am still working with lighting texture values and trying many different things to use the least amount of memory and to prevent as many crashes as possible.

For some reason, the screenshots you posted earlier with the buildings and the courtyard overview (Page 2) I was reminded
of 007 Nightfire. I know this has no relation to your game... but, I just thought I'd point it out.

All right. Finally got around to finishing the demo and everything.

---CRITICISM/COMPLAINTS---
Enemy gun damage is far too high, in my opinion. I found myself dying a lot on the 2nd level, only to reload it and have it crash. I think it wouldn't be as bad if teammates actually did something. They fired a single bullet in my entire playthrough.
After I activated the radio to kill the tank, I turned around to exit the house and there was a massive FPS drop.
I noticed some sounds and music were ripped from BC2 (mainly the 636C's gunsound, and Russian chatter and death sounds)-- or you just replicated them extremely well, but I'm going for the former.
In level 2, all teammates are the same model.
There were many instances when I was jumping and I would rocket into the air (though this is a bug with FPSC in general, this could probably be fixed with invisible ceilings).
The voice acting could use a LOT of work, especially in the final cutscene.
In the first cutscene, right before the sniper rifle is zoomed in, an ammo counter can be seen.
Teammates were practically useless.
Not a fan of the bloom.
Many walls that can be scaled to glitch onto the top of the level, thus skipping enemies, etc.
When the objective text is onscreen, the player is unable to switch weapons.
An indication that you've picked up new weapons would be nice.

---PRAISE---
The level design was rather good. Great job of funneling the player in the right direction, but still looking like it's an open town.
The tank scene was particularly well done. The explosions were very nicely done, as well as the tank's destruction itself.
I was pleased to find that I was rewarded for exploring nooks and crannies. I found a few spare sniper bullets behind some boxes that were off the set path.
I think the entity placement was done very well and believably.

---CONCLUSION---
While I do have more criticism than praise, I do not dislike the demo. It definitely has potential, but just isn't there yet. There is a lot of room for improvement, and I'm sure you're already improving a good amount of my crits. I'm looking forward to more progress on the game.

Cheers

Hello all,
I am here to inform you of a slight change of plan for the game. If you are familiar with BC2, you may remember that the beginning of Upriver has a sniping section, in which you shoot several guards under the cover of a storm. I have decided to not remake that level as it would play way too fast in FPSC and that there is no way I know of to sync shooting to the cover of lighting (no Im not going to use a soundzone, because I'd want the game to end if the player fired his weapon without the cover of thunder.) Either way, this is only a tiny fragment of BC2 that I am altering, and the game is otherwise uninterrupted. I have started chewing out flaws from the demo (Mostly invisible walls, the jeep's collision problem, and trying to find or touch up a new AI...)

Pics coming soon!

Heres a video more or less showcasing "Crack in the Sky." The characters in the video are WWII ones, I know, and theyve been swapped out for MP53 ones. This video is pretty old but I think its good to keep up with showcasing content. Only Bugsy and a few other friends have seen the video. Comments and crits on the vid are welcome.
