Nah, I know someone had snow effects before. Sand shouldn't be so much different.

@kulet

Well, you're idea is aesthetically pleasing, but I am using the particle system for gameplay purposes, rather than looks. For example, I am currently in the process of recreating Snowblind, a mission where you descend a mountain as you rapidly freeze to death in a blizzard. I am using the particles to make a thick snow blizzard making it difficult to see more than a few meters. And it does take a little bit of an impact on the FPS if used in large quantities, so I can't really use it on a level with a lot of AI.

Pics of Snowblind coming soon

You could make a particle follow the player which drops snow on top of them if thats possible. Then couple it with some fog and bam.

or you could create an animated hud with snow flying all around in high winds.
(not up>down because that would look weird.)

Biggest update in a while!

Welcome back, and I present one of the bigger updates for a while. Snowblind, part 2. Preston was separated from his squad and now he must descend a mountain in a freezing blizzard. You will rapidly freeze to death unless you find shelter with a fire. Hold up there until you warm back up, and proceed down the mountain while searching for shelter and fighting the Russian Spetsnaz.

Image Stuff - Snow was done with particles set on a time increment system to become real thick and thin out every so often, to allow brief moments so the player can find his next shelter. The map isn't completely done detail wise, but gameplay mechanic wise, it's almost done.

imageflock.com/img/1319298572.jpg[/img]
imageflock.com/img/1319298578.jpg[/img]
NEAR DEATH FREEZING! The fire will warm you up and restore your health.
imageflock.com/img/1319298609.jpg[/img]
Russians will chase you down and try to flush you out of your shelter.

Comments and crits welcome, short video of this level coming soon, and as always, STILL WIP

The guy is not well prepared, running around sleeveless
The pick look actually really good, I want to play this baby so bad.
Only thing is that the sci-fi bed looks kinda out of place.

Good observation and also a coincidence. Marlowe in BC2 did wear a shirt/sweater going down to his wrist, covering his forearm. When I get the chance and time, I will modify the hand texture to have that forearm area covered.

I will try my best to imitate what this character from BC2 is wearing. It almost looks like a tube sock on his arm. If anyone knows what exactly this piece of clothing is called, let me know.

Small update,
Revised Sangre Del Toro Map. Based more or less off of Atacama Desert from BC2. Not totally done, as some parts of the map dont exist yet; thats why you can see out of the map at the moment, so ignore that.

I want to provide an update, but I'm kind of shy on new material for right now. This is all I'm willing to show because right now I have like 3-4 half completed levels with really tricky things I'm too frustrated to figure out now. So here's really rough Upriver level pictures.

Comments crits always welcome. Its only about 35-45% done.

Hello everybody,

I am here just to inform you that there will not be any updates for a little while. I am currently facing some outside issues that will prevent me from progressing my game very much in the next few weeks. You might see a screenshot here or there for the next few weeks, but don't expect much. But I promise when I return to full production speed, there will be a new surprise for all of you guys.

Quick update:
Bugsy, a talented FPSC user and FPI script writer, has graciously allowed me to use specific AI scripts of his for my BC2 remake. This means much sharper and more difficult enemy AI as well as improved allied AI. We all know how much of a hassle AI is, and I am really grateful to Bugsy for providing me with this. A short video may be made in the near future showing some new maps and the new AI.

And from here on out, Bugsy will receive an official place in my games credits. Thank you Bugsy!!!

@Cross Hair Games

I get anywhere between 70,000-120,000 on smaller levels, and anywhere from 150-200,000 polys on larger levels. Its a pain and does take a toll on the FPS, but I spend as much time as possible keeping the FPS above 45FPS for the majority of times. Ive had levels, done and completed, that ran at 30 or less FPS, and I've scraped them and completely reworked them so they run at a smooth and playable framerate.

Well, typically, I wouldn't release new images/videos of new content until the content is completed or close to being completed. But, I have started work on the Vietnam levels which I have actually inter-twinned with the storyline of BC2 (more on that on a later date.) Never the less, these images are NO EVEN CLOSE TO BEING FINISHED!!! The level itself isn't close to being done. But I do want to reassure you that the game is still being made.

WIP of Upriver, part 2. Not much, just the basic landscaping. Very little Ai yet, and not so much detail. Just thought I'd keep y'all updated.

Ugh, I feel bad. I feel like I kinda abandoned the thread and game, as I have had almost zero time to work on it. HOWEVER HOWEVER HOWEVER... the game is not dead, not abandoned, or left to rot in the forums. The game just on a temporary leave of absence. I plan to reformat my computer once summer starts so I've backed up my FPSC files and I am holding off any progress until I reformat. Plus school and finals take priority over this any day, along with other passions such as playing actual Battlefield and guitar!

It will resume someday soon, fear not young forum members!!

Much obliged, Henry

GOOD NEWSS!!!

Reformatting was a breeze, and I finally restored FPSC, and upgraded to 1.19, so progress will now resume over the summer. I have no schedule as to when and what will be done, but you should see new content come out over the next few weeks. Glad to see people still care about this project. That's what keeps me goin.

this is one of the titles that lead people (like me) to this engine .... and even if its only because the name is easy to find on youtube, the good look does the rest to lead people to tgc.

i am not a fan of military-shooters, but i hope you can finish this. from my view its one of the lead-projects on this engine.

good luck & fun for everything that will come.

Hey all,
I sat down this week and played BC2 extensively to reacquaint myself with how the game feels and how I can translate that into my remake. After some serious though and consideration, I decided to pretty much start a new on this project. I am going to be taking an entirely new approach to the game. While I don't have anything showcase worthy now, I plan to start redesigning the game and posting stuff ASAP. I am not throwing away what I've been working on. On the contrary, I am scrapping the bad, utilizing the good, and redesigning the mechanics of the gameplay. At the moment all I am willing to say is that the game will be way more like BC2's multiplayer than its Singleplayer.

I think this new approach will allow me to make more detailed, longer lasting levels, and reflect the true heart and spirit of any Battlefield game. I also believe that once a good system is in place for my new design towards the game, I will be able to complete the game much faster and with a higher level of quality.

See you out on the field

Hello all,
This is an assistance call to the community. I have been lucky enough to now own a triple monitor 5760X1080 (1080p x 3) setup, powerhoused by a GTX570 MDT. However, this proves a problem with FPSC, and could potentially stop the project. FPSC Does not want to start and presents me an error message and when I do manage to start the editor on just 1 monitor, all test games only take up about half of the screen and my mouse is inactive. I am using 1.20 B2 and am looking for help as how to get FPSC working right.

All this frustration and time spent towards the project now stacked on top of yet another issue is starting to take its toll.

I am considering stopping this project in light of starting a smaller, yet very similar project which would be more akin for something like FPSC.

Thank you to any and all who provide help, feedback, advice, and feelings towards continuing, stopping, or starting a new.

You guys are the best and I'm sure you understand.

HOWEVER If the project does go under, I'm not just gonna hang up the guns and let it die. No, I intend to build whatever I had finished and let the community enjoy the fruits of my labors. It would be awful to let all this work die, and it wasn't all my own. People like Bugsy were a great help and I'm sure they'd appreciate to see and try some of the game they helped create, even if it isn't 100% finished.

I'll see you down the road and on the Battlefields.

many progs have issues with multiscreen-settings, blender too.

you can shortcut the command to use 1,2,3 monitors, whatever, in your card-preferences, nvidia or ati. some cards also provide additional settings for the programs to call for the number of monitors, maybe you have to create another custom-setting for fpscgame.exe (or whatever testgame is called).

if you use win7, simply create another desktop for fpsc and testgame.

Quick update:
Planning is still being worked on. I believe that one of the problems with earlier production was that it was too on the fly and not structured enough. I still plan on completely overhauling the approach to the game but that won't really get underway until all the planning is done.

As for the game itself, the new style will focus on smaller but freer level design which will lead to a shorter but ultimately higher quality game. Beta 1.2 is proving to be a great advantage with this new style too so it's becoming a win-win situation for me. This does mean that it will still be a while before you guys see anything worth while. The best I can say is that the game will be completed REALLY fast compare to the older style.

I appreciate the patience and constant support of the community.
School and work also slow. Just reminding myself I have a life outside FPSC...XD

Thanks
Henry
