Well that would be a background, unfortunatly you would have to user your owon helm sprites and paste them over that image or something, because, I suck at sprites.

I have something fun for people to do. Open up MS paint and using the default Text settings, make a text box and type the message "CJ: Working hi" (the font would be "arial" BTW).

Also, please do look on the latest picture, at the perspectives relative to the camera. A little bit of it looks sorta funky.

I'll leave this for you guys to decide.

And someone pointed out to me that the UI was from runescape (i think that was said in this thread BTW)

I have to say they look a bit dodgy .

Why don't you give people a simple world demo, even an offline one, to prove you've got it working?

i dont get it Eric T what? well anyway ya i said i was realesing a demo at the end of january so you can test it then, im not sure if i will make it online though becouse i still have lag isues to take care of and also that would mean id have to start the server up and it would be a annoying. but the demo will showcase all you've seen so far

What I meant was, you pictures look blatently fake. And then i pointed out the 2 obvious ones, without going into the more technical ones because it may just be the bad jpeg compression.

Do you have any videos or anything we can see of your engine in action... as your screenshots are very fake looking.

Now now, Eric T. As much as I agree with you, lets wait and see *another* screenshot before we start suggesting he's a poser.

@Sage: I personally could give a whoot that chat works. When I am playing games, I can tell you that the last thing I want to do is chat with people (then again, I don't like MMORPG anyways)

I mean, chat is nothing. I would like to see an object in one of your screenshots, heck, even a floating sphere would be nice.

Keep up the good work.

[EDIT]
Is this the runescape people are talking about?

Ya there is no evidence to suggest that its online at all all were seeing is a world with an overlayed hud. This can be done in secconds its actually getting player objects to runaround together thats the difficult part and if your getting lag with 2 people you have come to see why most of us knew you wouldnt do a mmorpg.

no my lag was becouse i was with quite a few people, i was just communticating with cj as you saw in the screenshots. Second, my screenshots look rather fakey becouse of the compresion of: i compressed the menu so the game picks it up as a jpeg , the screen shot further compresses it. O, a little of topic but i was woundering, has anyone developed a sim game (i.e. simcity) in dark basic? (in case you havent noticed, i like sim games)

Don't feel too bad, you did at least provide screen shots. Like someone else said, that's over 99% more that most people making an online game.

Keep going!

LOL

Well you are devoloping a MMORPG, i'd expect there to be quite a few people.

i still stand by my old statement, dont worry, you'll see the engine in action in the demo (i know you've heard that one before!) but trust me it very possible for me to realese it, just wait till the the end of january. has anyone actully succeeded with an MMORPG in darkbasic though? or gotten close? please name names. I just don't get it, why is it certain people on this forum have to give such a negative response when looking at other peoples achivements, but maybe that's just me.

I'd just like to point out that plenty of RPG's have a similar interface to the type Sage Tech is using, this is a simple and easy to understand method of equipping items so I don't see any problems with it being used. Just because it's similar to plenty of others out there doesn't mean Sage Tech has done anything wrong.

If you're talking about the doubters, they have plenty of good reasons. It has nothing to do with jealousy (or at least I think it doesn't).

I know why people doubt Sage Tech but it's not like he's stolen someone elses code/model etc and pawned it off as his own, everyone makes mistakes, Sage Tech started a new post and did what people had asked him (showed proof of his work.) I agree that a simple world demo would be great but I still feel it's a bit harsh to accuse Sage Tech of faking his own screenshots.

I'm not saying Sage Tech is or isn't telling the truth, I just think it would be better for the community as a whole if we sorted out the flamers and code stealers rather then spending our time telling someone we think they're lying about thier game. Alas, this is getting off topic so I'm going to work on my own project, toodle pip.

EDIT:: Woops, posted while I was writing Sage Tech but like you say, now you've got a better oppurtunity then ever to prove yourself, just don't let it go to waste.

That's the right attitude . I'll refrain from any judgements until a demo rolls around, but if this is real, good job and good luck.

windowed, as i was hoping to get the advantages of window like buttons plus i cant guess the right toolbar size! (i know the question may be "then where is the window and background and all" right? well i use a program which takes a screenshot of the window only. (everyone says their's a button that does the screenshot.

so i see this is debated so im gonna go work on the demo to apease you guys. feel free to post and discuss still.

Well I'm still not convinced those images are real, with the extremely odd window size. What's the programs name? And what are you using for the camera aspect?

[Edit] And you also skipped my desktop resolution question too. Mind answering that as well?

who really cares if it is fake? You don't know that for sure, and it won't affect you in the end, so why fight it, I don't see why he would go through the trouble of faking it, I wouldnt, and I don't think any logical people would either. So give it a rest.

Oh and sage tech, the best thing you can do at this point to silence these guys, is to post a small snippet of code, that way they can see that you did it!

alright, im back! went to go watch a movie (good one, two!) not for long though couse i gotta get off for my father to transfer files. Well anyway if you dont think im making the game then i dont see a point with arguing with you. i mean, lets face it, the only way to proove I'm making this 100% is by realesing a demo/beta version. So if you're patient it will come, infact, if i dont get the demo done by, hmmm, well i promised the end januay, so if I dont realese a demo/trial version by the 15 of febuary then i will personally open a forum which in it i will flame myself and let everyone else do some flaming without my retaleation! sound good? (I use a program called GM Screenshot taker 1.0) see ya later people. o and id love to hear some ideas Mr underhill, im sure you got some great ones. but since my father is a "dont give your email out or name or youll die." type you can access me at one of the many forums i post , try the off topic, general talk area or access me in this forum. Im thinking of getting another public adress soon though, so dont worry. bye once again people!

@Preston: I know one screen capture app that does what SageTech says: SnagIt. It can bypass most of those anti-printscreen tricks, and if you want it can capture only what's in the window, effectively removing window borders. BTW I like your initials

The Payn (Lol, influence from MGS3) is right, just give it a rest and wait for a demo. Though I have to say that I agree with Preston and Eric. I mean, I've spent the past few days coding AI for my own project, and now that I know how difficult it is, I would definitely be proud of it and post screenies of the AI in action upon getting the chance. I don't see the so called "enemy you could sneak up on from behind" in any of his screenies.
