Dreams are meant to be crushed, due to the fact that most of the time they don't come true. You've gotta learn early on what you can or can't do, and what is required for big projects such as this.

I mean, there is no way, in hell, that you'd be able to do something like this. First off, there's the programming, which isn't exactly easy. Then optimizing the code and data transfer. Then when the client and server program are done, you need a server, which has to be fast, and on a fast connection, else it won't run. That's a major financial hit right there, somewhere in the thousands for the server, and then practically that much yearly for the connection and bandwidth. Then you need to manage your game, or hire people to do so. That's another, long term, financial hit, that no 12 year old can afford (unless...of course...you're a fricken millionare).

And if you started in C to begin with (like you've stated) and your first program was a 3D Pacman, why the hell did you move to Dark Basic? You were in a good situation right there, there was no need to regress back to a basic language. This kinda proves you're lying about practically everything. Not to mention your screengrabs are of an odd aspect ratio, and the gui looks like it was pasted on there with paint.

Well, PrestonC, i moved to dark basic for its multiplayer reasons (of course its directplay, so i feel like i was gipped.) Also i moved to it for its easy to understand format, (it is basic after all) While c is more powerfull, i dont have it memorised to every aspect, while this language can be memorized easily. I also saw it's main perpose, GAME DESIGN , and while c can do this better, this program can access the c commands with one command.

I get 104% in my programming class, maintain a 4.429 GPA, am in all honors classes, have been playing piano for 9 years, auditioned to get into our marching band to get to march in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and win Superiors at Las Vegas high school, and I am 15 years old.

I still laugh at those words.

Hey, guys, lay off the kid.
I'm sure we've all been through the "Im gonna make teh next Final Fantasy/Quake/Tetris!!" stage (I know I have ), so instead of making fun of someone who could easily have been you a few years back, let Sage Tech learn his lessons on his own. By the 31st or the 15th or whatever, we'll see if he's the real deal or not.
Until then, don't skewer the poor guy, he's had enough flaming already.

Quote: " Well, PrestonC, i moved to dark basic for its multiplayer reasons"

When using DirectPlay or any other Third Party Library wasn't good enough? I mean, there is much better out there, that is easier to use, for C/C++ (even DirectPlay)!

Thats no excuse, next.

Quote: "Also i moved to it for its easy to understand format,"

C/C++'s "format" is quite easy to learn. Ask anyone at the C++ classes that they have in my school. They're jokes, but alas, everyone in there still has the basic understanding of C++, and thats only after 45, 1 1/2 hour classes, most of which were working on seperate, basic projects.

Quote: "While c is more powerfull, i dont have it memorised to every aspect, while this language can be memorized easily."

Then you should have memorized only the things that were useful to you, or you could have programmed your own library to do the hard work for you.

Quote: "I also saw it's main perpose, GAME DESIGN , and while c can do this better, this program can access the c commands with one command."

Ah, but heres a little tid bit of information. Dark Basic was programmed in C++. The compiler was written in ASM, as well as many of the commands. The other commands are routines made using C++ and DirectX. DirectX is not exclusive to C/C++.

In short, your entire statement is false. It does not access C commands, it accesses machine code which ones computer follows in order to produce the wanted results.

Man, you're a lost cause. If you knew C, then you wouldn't have gone to Dark Basic. Just because it's not exclusively for game development doesn't mean that you can't use it for that single purpose. Not to mention you've stated several things that make several people question that you've even used C before.

Now how bout you bug off and go cry to your mom, you obviously don't know what the hell you're doing, what you're saying, and you're putting up arguments that are false or incorrect. You're just another newcomer to programming, and thats that, we know it. Stop trying to impress us with that whole C deal. We know it's not true.

@BCDP
Omg, you are like..pro.
You're my superior, lol. I get like 70% in programming class (so boring VB that I just cant be stuffed trying anymore..). And have been playing piano for 6yrs, then gave up out of boredom (Hate playing stuff, over, and over, and over... Now I just mess around in FL). I guess I'm just lazy...And of course, Im also 15.

@MMORPG 1337 n00b wAnnab3:
But even so! Even that I get 70% in programming, and that I got 3 stars in the DB compo...And that I am 3 years older than yourself. I still know that attempting an MMORPG is a complete waste of effort (Without the money). So Im not even gonna try. See if you can handle an RPG or something smaller. If somehow you manage (which is really hard), then I shall praise you, and many others may too.

Let me tell you something Sage Tech. How do you think that 6 years of programming will help you make this MMORPG? I mean professionals working together as a real company couldn't even do it! I mean look at the just canceled MMORPG Wish. IT was being made by a full company with many people and it was canceled because they could not deal with such a huge task, the money, and everything else related to it, so what makes you think you can pull it off? Please though prove me wrong.

JEEZ! I HATE YOU PEOPLE!

if you didn't fill up this entire thread with flames, I wouldn't have wasted 10 minutes reading that. Instead, I could have been working on my paper that's due.... soon.

I'm a bit unsure on the reality of this game, but I'm also willing to lend SageTech a free FTP account. Heck, if he needs it, i can lend 100 mb, and like 20 gb in bandwidth. I just wanna see how this all plays out in the end.

Show me some screenshots or some more proof about this game, and i'll email you the accountname and password.
