I'll email you as soon as I get the banner made, which could take a while...

#Cool News#

Weapon Creator may feature an animation viewer, where you can step through your weapon's animation, and bookmark the starting and ending frames of each animation. Then, export and load in WC, and viola! All the anim frame boxes are filled out.

Check out http://wc.out-lawz.com for never before seen screenshots, demo's and the latest news.

EDIT: yea! my sig works.
EDIT2: Double yea! my image sig works!

Weeeelll, Mostly just simple tut's, started one of them today. I guess you'd have to have the beta of WC, so I'll contact any intrested parties when the time comes. (Please note, if you havn't already setup some kind of agreement with me concerning a free copy of WC, then don't expect one... Though, I may add you to the beta list, for a 'favor')

I did the first, It just wasn't working, so I reverted to the second.

Well, From Sunflash:

Quote: "Something that would really help for choosing at which frame to play the sound and such, it would be cool if there was a little video thing like windows media, only it could be mad by you, that would play the guns frames, and display the frame it's currently playing. Tjis would help the new comer choose frames.
-Sunflash"

I just now read Sinistar's post, it actually has nothing to do with that...

Quote: "My idea is to have an animation importer that translates some imported entity's animations into FPSC-friendly animations. It would allow someone to import DarkMatter 2 characters fast with all their animations. The problem is DM1 animations are all stored as separate models.

In Magic FPS that would mean an "Import Animated Character" button and then an interface to import (enumerate) the animations."

Wow, pretty similar... (I smell patent infringment... J/K )

Ok As a test I took the fpsc assault rifle and ammo, made it left handed, and used them. These were my problems with it.

1. Did'nt know I needed net framework 2.0+ to run it so I had to find a download and deal with that...not a big deal but I'm sure your going for dummy proof and its not listed in any read me or on your site which makes ppl go .."Duhrr"

2. Wile positioning muzzle flash the "A and Z" zoom features are way to fast. You play hell trying to get stuff positioned.

3. The "C" that rotates the weapon so you can see the flash position only goes counter clockwise and it would be nice not have to make a complete revolution.

4. Again the Zoom on the Es section of the prog moves like a crack head and is hard to position.

5 just a beta so I know that the sounds for other then fire and reload will open later.

6 Once in the game the gun appears fine. It floats and rotates per the script and the ammo I made lay on the floor. But once you pick it up and fire you'd be lucky to hit the broad side of a barn. The below image the gun was not moved at all....all those bullet holes are just random places it fires...now this may be do to the fact that I didn't put in a cross hair but I do see a white spec and would think thats where the gun should fire.

1.) Yeah, I'd better add that.

2 & 3 & 4.) I'll fix that.

5.) there actually all there. In the files dialog, look under the sound heading. Type in the names of the sounds you want. Use the little list box to pick how many sounds to use. BTW, those names are just for recognition, they aren't actually used in the weapon.

6.) Did you fiddle with the accuracy slider on the first dialog?

Oh thats another thing....the sliders coo and all but extends under the text that says "sniper" when you move it all the way to the left...It's a small thing but im sure youd want to know.....more pro ya know.

Yes, most definately gotta fix that.

P.S.

Was it annoying when you clicked next or back, how each control filled in?

Was everything clear?

Oh, yeah. If you happen to do any more test weapons, can you test the "Custom bullet hole" feature? I'm not sure if that will work or not...

I personally liked it kept the input info....being I would probly only change 1 or 2 values not having to redo all is a plus. And all in game as you can see from that SS above showed up nicely....I would advise a readme though.....that accuracy deal had me flipin not remembering I played with that and not getting it when I first seen it....i was just playing with everything so I could try and "break" it >.<

Here's a WIP readme for the first dialog, probably the most button packed.

Gather all the media for your weapon in to one easily found folder.

If your model is animated, open a 3D modeler and write down all the start and end frames of each animation of your first-person-weapon model.

Startup weapon Creator.

After the splash screen is displayed, you are presented with the General dialog. Type in the name of your weapon and pick the theme. If you havn't set the FPSC directory before, click browse, and navigate to the main FPSC folder. Pick the script, which dictates wheather the weapon floats atop a glowing decal, or simply sits on the ground. Type in the range and damage values, or, leave the range field blank for the default.

The checkbox's work as follows:

"scope" -- If this is checked, your weapon will include a scope of your choice. The scope is choosen later.

"Automatic" -- If this is checked, more specific animation fields will be presented, allowing you to set how the weapon fires. If not, you simply provide the start-fire and end-fire frames.

"Use Transperancy data from Texture" -- If this is checked, then the FPSC engine will make use of alpha data in your texture to render parts of the weapon model transperant.

"Custom Bullet Hole" -- If this is checked then you will be asked to choose a bullet hole image, later on in the Weapon Making process.

The accuarcy slider is realatively self-explanatory. Move toward "sniper" for greater accuaracy, and toward shotgun for lesser accuaracy.

Under the "Would You reather have:" section, the radio buttons allow you to choose the texture settings for your weapon. If "More Efficiency" is checked, the game will in generally run faster. If "more texture detail" is checked, the game may run a tiny bit slower, but the gun is more realistic. The default setting for all FPSC guns is "more texture detail".

Now, click next.

Another thing I personally would change on this, is under the browse for fpsc folder section....allow us to back up to the desk top or where ever and designate a folder. I know you could physically place the address in but being able to just back up to the desktop or where ever would help. I'm sure I'm not the only person out there that doesn't like their meshes mixed up the FPSC stock ones. I personally prefer each item in its own fold as opposed to in the "entity,gamecore,scifi,modern,texture,blahhhh"......not really fond of chasing down things across so many folders so not forcing us to use FPSC string would make people happier.

So, you mean like this:

Desktop\files\gamcore\guns\MyWep\Hud.x
Desktop\files\gamcore\guns\MyWep\Gun_D2.x
ect.

Desktop\files\entitybank\ww2\items\MyWep\Vwep.x
Desktop\files\entitybank\ww2\items\MyWep\MyWep.bmp
ect.

OR

Desktop\files\VWep.x
Desktop\files\Hud.x
Desktop\files\Gun_D2.dds
ect.

EDIT:

Do you mean allowing you to use diff dir's within the FPSC file dir? like, as opposed to "FPSC\files\gamecore\guns\mygun\hud.x" it could be "FPSC\files\Mygun\hud.x" Is that what you mean? I'm not even sure it's possible...

I plan on adding a lot of different 'publish' options, what do you think they should be?

So far, I plan on doing the following:

1.) Pop right into FPSC
2.) Publish all to a single dir, like above
3.) FOR LATER -- make a little installer for your weapon
4.) Zip your weapon files from within Weapon Creator

ect.

TO ALL BETA TESTERS

Please test out the following fetures of weapon creator:

1.)scope
2.)Custom Bullet Hole

I'm not 100% sure if these work, so please test them out.

Yeah, something that I noticed right off the bat was that there isn't a hole lot of customization alowed in the program. For instance, when choosing a script for the gun in the "General" section, you can only choose one of two scripts. What if you want to use your own weapon script? There should also be a "Browse" option at the bottom of the pull down menu.

The same problem is in several other places, to name a few:

1) When choosing the weapons theme, you can't make up your own theme.
2) When choosing the ammos script, you can only choose from several default FPSC scripts.
3) On the "Effects" page, users need to be able to browse for their own bullet shell models, and smoke images.

I hope this helps! Weapon Creator is definently going to be a BIG hit!

Yeah like Sunflash said...flexibility is going to be the key to making this sell well. The people that are really going to benefit from this are people doing there own weapon packs for sale...this certainly can speed up the process but a little more control is needed. Don't get us wrong...were not trying to make more work for you cause this is already 10x TGC entity creator imo.

And I'm yet to try custom bullet holes/scope. I'll probably do that tomarrow.

Quote: "1) When choosing the weapons theme, you can't make up your own theme."

That would be quite simple to set up, I'll do it.

Quote: "2) When choosing the ammos script, you can only choose from several default FPSC scripts."

Well, I guess I could add that, it's not hard to do... But, wouldn't you be constantly editing that script until you got it right?

Quote: "3) On the "Effects" page, users need to be able to browse for their own bullet shell models, and smoke images."

The only problem with that is that the bulletholes and smoke are stored in a common FPSC dir. It'd get confusing with 20 or so bullet holes... Anyhow, I'll look into it.

Quote: "The people that are really going to benefit from this are people doing there own weapon packs for sale"

I'm thinking that one of the 'Publish' options should be 'Pack as Installer' which would make two files, the installer, and a WPF. (Weapon Pack File)

Also make it so that it can publish to a .zip/.rar file, that would be sweet. mabye not realistic, as I don't know how it would be done, but it would be sweet all the same!

ect.
Is better...I mean once on your desktop you can always "send" it to a zip....so thats not much of a prob. I'd just like to be able to keep it seperated from the git go from the FPSC files.

Small UPDATE

I slowed down the A & Z zoom in the DBP parts.

You now can use custom themes

The custom scripts feature is almost done.
the script you choose is copied to "Files\ScriptBank\WeaponCreator\MyGunName\ScriptName.fpi"
Does that work for you?

In the Muzzleflash part of the positioner, you rotate the camera around the gun with the C & V keys.
The camera now centers around the muzzleflash, making it much easier to position it.

Ok, everything you guys suggested is done, except for:

Quote: "3) On the "Effects" page, users need to be able to browse for their own bullet shell models, and smoke images."

and,

Quote: "Also make it so that it can publish to a .zip/.rar file, that would be sweet. mabye not realistic, as I don't know how it would be done, but it would be sweet all the same!"

I also have yet to make the installer, which may or may not be possible.

So, anymore ideas?
