I think Sony is in big trouble - they've taken such a huge swing at the ball it's gone past the hole and out of bounds. $599! I could get a decent new(but not too futureproof) gaming PC for that! Which is exactly what all the kids parents are going to be thinking this christmas - although some parents are so dumb they'd set themselves on fire if their kids demanded it... I don't think the games industry as it stands can actually support the creation of games on the PS3 long term. It's just too expensive ALL ROUND.
Xbox360 showed the biggest range of action games I actually want to play at E3 so I'm interested - Gears of War, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Rainbow Six Vegas(maybe), (probably Spore later on)
Nintendo Wii - stupid name - but great potential - just fun fun fun - but may actually alienate hardcore gamers (nintendo's fanbase!) - who require more 'precision' to their gaming.
The jury's still out - i won't be buying anything until they are all out on the shelves... I'm happy with my current systems... PS2 still has some great games on the way - and i may even scrape the dust off my GC to play the new Zelda instead of diving ... PC halflife2 episodes.....

Quote: "and (C) prove my point that the PS3 is going to dominate this round of the console wars as always."

It will win, but it will be closer than ever before. The simple matter is that the PS1 and PS2 rocked, therefore the PS3 will sell well. Most people won't know whether it sucks or not untill they get it.

People on these forums have an interest in gaming, so have more of an informed opinion. We know that Nintendo is superior to Sony (for pretty much the first time ever since the Playstation) because we spend time researching it.

Your average consumer won't have that, and will buy on the premise of GTA, MGS4 and FFXIII. They also know that the N64 and Gamecube sucked compared to the PS. They won't have a clue what that repot that Jeku provided even means! System specs do not sell a console. It will sell on the previous reputations of PS1 and PS2.

It's also worth noting, that general mentality reasons more expensive = better quality. People who can afford it will buy it on this premise.

I've also spoken to all of my friends, and they all have doubts over whether the Wii will be as good as it sounds. Incidentally, they're also all getting a PS3.

And the point about Sony raping games? That just reinforces my point! Sony are trying to make money. The average consumer wants to play Half-life and GTA clones. It's mainly hard-core gamers like us want to play original titles. Most original games, no matter how good, flop.

Sorry for the long, boring post, but I feel that you're all assuming that people will know that the PS3 sucks (which it still may not) before they buy it.

The average person does not surf the net for consoles. Most people just want the PS3 because they had the PS2. Also, the Wii controller looks cr*p to someone who has not seen it in action. You have to know what it does before you buy it. I think the PS3 will still win the battle, we are all not average customers.

Edit: funny, we wrote the same thing at the same time.

There's a console destruction video floating around the net. The PS2 died on the first test, and the XBOX died on the third. Only the Cube survived. Wonder how the next gens would do?

PS3 for me. And if you say ppl don't research it, I have. The PS3 game discs have this blue ray technology which allow for virtually no load times and much more data storage . Plus I'm a sony fanboy. I need FFXIII, and Kingdom Hearts III whenever it comes out. Clearly I'm a Square Enix fanboy as well. I've played the 360 and I personally did not enjoy myself. You know what would be hilarious? If Nokia released a pwnage console that totally blew away all the rest.

Don't take life too seriously... no one gets out alive.

Yeah they will need faster loading times just to balance out all the crap they will store on those disks. You probebly played the wrong games then there is just now stuff starting to come out in abundence.

Will the speed even change because of the sheer amount of uncompressed data they're going to throw on those things? I'll sacrifice a 2048x2048 pistol texture for less expensive discs with the same loading speed.

I'm with BCDP. Nintendo has always kept the market going with new and innovative ideas. The new controller's just the next thing to improve as far as consoles go. It brings video games to a whole new level.

Sure the PS3 has the tilt thingy, but even the GameBoy used technology like that on games like Kirby: Tilt and Tumble. The Wii also use the same technology, but it's operating in both sides of the "chuck" controller, plus you've gotta love that bow aiming in the Legend of Zelda : TP! That FPS game, Red Steel (Ubisoft), the control system is wicked awesome!

As far as I'm personally concerned, video games are about being fun. Lots of money spent deprives me of the pleasant security of enjoying my games. I hate spending tons of money!

Also SONY doesn't actually make any of the games on thier consoles, they are all 3rd party! Most games that are on the PS2 are also on the Xbox or GameCube. Things like LegendofZelda, Mario Bros., Animal Crossing, Pikmin, ChibiRobo, and such other Nintendo Games have always been and will continue to be awesome. Nobody can make a decent copy of them. Anybody can make an FPS or another turnbased RPG. (though the story really counts in that case!) But games are too mass produced.

Even the old 8-bit games are still fun! I can pick up the NES Controller and still play for hours.

It's not about big claims, big numbers, uncompressed textures, surround sound audio... It's about fun. If somebody has more fun playing dozens of Wannabe Halo, Wannabe FinalFantasy, and Wannabe-an-immitation-of-some-other-game-that-sold-good-so-we-tried-to-make-one-just-likeit... If that's fun, then go ahead and play it. But I preffer new things, addictive things, things which are appropriate for all ages so even my mom would feel comfortable playing with me. (Does that really sound so wierd?)

It's about creativity, you can even see it here on the forums. Everybody tries to immitate somebody else's game, but the truly original stuff takes the most work and in the en, it's the most fun again, and again.

Phew... There's my three cents. Nintendo Forever!
(I do like the 360 though!)

The 360 has nearly 10x the memory bandwidth for just TEXTURES of the memory bandwidth the PS3 has for the whole graphics chip! The PS3 is a good toaster and number cruncher. Nothing more.

Heh. Let's put it this way. PS3 should be superior in hardware and software. However, the 360 has some strong cards to play. XBOX Live is a big hit, they got world-famous franchises as Halo, and they're starting to sell better and better.

The E3 definetly was a plus for the XBOX. PS3 showed stuff of same or lower quality than the XBOX, but I think in the end we'll see two equally powerful consoles with different approaches to gaming (XBOX - Live MP, PS3 - Couch MP).

And the Wii is a completely different league, but oh, what a league it is!

Actually from what Ive heard the 360 is a much better designed machine for gaming where the ps3 is more of a computer and can compute a lot but not very well for gaming so I doubt it will be supperior hardware wise.

Personally I think the PS3 will be king. Its specs are superior and the videos and screenshots released so far are breathtaking. Its only let down by the huge delays due to standards arguments. This could harm it but probably not as much as Microshaft fans would like. I hope they keep their online service free. I think letting each developer run their own games servers is good, especially when its built into the price of the game (no monthly fee).

The Xbox360 has great graphics, but its not exactly cutting edge technology any more. I think they rushed it out to be the first of the new generation. This will sting when the others come out. XBox Live is a great service but it costs, plus MS have full control over it which may not be a good thing for the public or the game developers in the end.

The Wii is technologically behind the others and as far as I can see, it only has the novelty of the controller going for it. Sure they will have exclusives of some great Nintendo games, but the majority of what Nintendo release now are strange Japanese 'child-like' games, puzzles or suped up versions of older titles. I think they are too busy trying to come up with unique games, rather than coming up with good long lasting games.

Those have been my thoughts

Wii will win the casual market and make much more money than PS3. Xbox already has a piece of the more casual market because of moms playing their kids' XBLA puzzle game demos and Microsoft's marketing.
