In 3ds max there is such option, but it's based on textures/shadows not geometry, so changing tht exture will make the effect disapear (I think).

Make games, not war.

bumpy.
That dragon model doesn't work in V1.04 or above for alot of people. (It never worked for me anyway though)..

And FPSC has trouble sorting out hit ditection for any thing that is over 100 pixels high, and has Ischarachter = 1 in their FPE.

Absolutely incredible..... It's times like these the no swearing policy is very annoying .

How did you make the waterfall?? And the water at the bottom, that's the best I've seen in FPSC ever.

Trees.....with....falling.....leaves....brain....melting.....under....power....of....engine.

Anyway.....

WOW.

I would definetley buy this, just to kill that imp under the waterfall, with leaves falling from the trees above..........

EDIT: @Fallen One, That "smoothing" you were asking about is called Anti-Aliasing, and I don't believe FPSC supports it.

In dbpro its as simple as saying "set object smoothing on" or something, couldnt they put it in fpsc?

No it isnt, aliasing is the outline, it smooths the jagged lines, thats a different thing.
edge smoothing
smoothing gets rid of edges looking right in your face, it doesnt add any extra polys or edges, fire up right hemispheres deep exploration and play with smoothing, it doesnt add any extra model detail, you do it in a 3d modeling program and then export it out and it stays that way, it smooths the edges of a model. I cant find a link otherwise Id post it showing you what it is.

If you do it to that waterfall scene it will get rid of those edges sticking right out, it will stop it looking low poly and it doesnt add extra edges, the model is the same in poly count it has just had its edges smoothed.

had a look for this

Smoothing Groups: Mainly used to create creases or pseudo-discontinuities on low-polygon models. By giving adjacent polygons a different smoothing group they get a hard angle between them. See for example here (left image with the center polygons with the same smoothing group, right one with different smoothing groups):

The entrance to the garden (well,I'm calling it that for now, could go anywhere) with baked textures, need to create some nice dappled light decals for when I bring it into FPSC.

Over into FPSC,the garden with baked shadows, worked pretty well.

I use a pretty average computer,it's all about optimising the scene.

Rolfy that's looks great...but it's just a small landscape and your framerate is 31...I really hope you can make big lvls with high frame.
Or maybe i'm wrong ! and behind the camera is The Golden Land...

This area hasn't been sliced into segments yet, just took it in in large pieces for now to get a look at the shadows in game,I have also redone the shadows so they are even better now.
Everything I do ends up hovering around 31-32fps whether it be the one above or landscapes or the halls which are huge.
When I created the urban decay level I released a demo and nobody seemed to have problems with the framerate.

Quote: "have you edited the game source code to increse the frame rate etc?"

I wouldn't have a clue how to,everything is low poly and it's all in the textures.

Rolfy`s future should be in the game business, no doubt about that - I´ve been doing 3D stuff for 14 years, starting with 3D Studio 4.1 on MS-DOS machines, and I´d put many hours into something looking that good. He said in the Anderson thread he`s doing that just for hobby, and that he had started not long ago...

It`s not a bug, it`s a feature

I should probably clarify this a little,I have been into graphics, 3d modeling and animating for about 8years now, game design is new to me.
Previous to that I worked in traditional fine arts, painting drawing, set design, lighting design for theatre and bands, floats for processions, art installations, sculpture. Also played in bands, music is my first love...Oh! and I also did fire eating on the side this is just some of it

Edit:The scene above is composed of four walls, four trees with canopies, four doors and a floor, theres really not much to it.

If i may...

Rolfy i have been trying to make my own trees...it works but not as good as yours.

Maybe you have a few tips or tricks for how you get your trees such great looks.

And the new screeny just looks fantastic.
But since those shadows are all in the textures.
How would it look when you have a weapon because they will always be lighten up?

Cheese cake.
Trees are basically a deformed cylinder with branches and roots extruded. The canopy is a number of double sided curved planes with transparent textures which are also baked in Max so the light and dark areas match the scene.
Quote: "How would it look when you have a weapon because they will always be lighten up?"

I wont be using guns in this, maybe the odd crossbow or sling, hope to work something out with casting bombs and spells so it may not be an issue.I could also bake the weapon textures.
