so you UV the objects baked some light maps into them and exported it out in the diffuse then took these and used them as the tex maps for the objects. then was these imported into fpsc as segments or entities. Or did you render out from your 3d prog say a shadow or lightmap or blend, I forget which one, but you can export out just the lighting map, then swap this with the lightmaps from the ones used in game, Ive had a look into that, the lightmaps from fpsc are quite wasteful, it will use a 512x512 map but will have loads of wasted space on the light map, a wall will be like 64x64 if that on the 512 x512 map, very wasteful.

It seems with texture baking, you get better quality lightmaps and renders than what the Fpsc engine puts out. Rolfy, you are a brilliant guy. So with that, if your not using the lightmap engine or shaders from FPSC, you would probably have quicker loading times per level and high/or descent frame rates for your game. But I'm still curious how frame rate will be a couple of enemies at a time in game? I guess you'll let us know in time.

3D Studio Max is one the best modeling packages out there, and so I can understand how you get this kind of quality. You sure would'nt get it from milkshape, even though its a cool program in its own rights. I understand why the movie, and video game industry uses 3DS MAX. It makes FPSC look very professional (graphically). All in all, looking good.

Are you using FPSC ver 1.04 or 1.05?

Better tools can help, but in the end it's just about how good a modeler you are

@rolfy

Why have you got the Oblivion Ghost in your level? You do know that's illegal right? Unless you modelled it to look exactly like the oblivion one, hmmm?

Besides from that, your work looks great.

That is a neat idea you used, baking the shadows onto textures. Maybe you could point me somewhere to help me learn in 3ds max? I have 3ds Max 9.

rolfy - Eldora is looking beautiful and is reminding me of the stuff Sierra on-line was doing early on. I miss those kinds of beautiful scenery games.

Just had to do something about those trees, they were just placeholders and so were pretty rough.

Improved trees.

Very nice; and the tree's structure definately goes with the game, instead of just tossing something random in. Great work.

I drool everyday when I come to this thread. This is toooo.. rich.
With texture baking, you can definetely free up FPSC's quirky resources and get better quality lightmaps and shadows. I wouldn't mind pre-fabbing these effects myself. It makes a game look good.

So with that we probably wouldn't be required to have high system specs to play this game. "Just a speculation" But only time will tell when Rolfy releases a demo or something.

Awesome rolfy, that's great.

Do you need a tester?
I'm good at doing boring stuff like running into walls, aswell as fun stuff like playing the game .

I wander if I could make my levels in blender then export.......

Time to start modeling some interior stuff, creating these as segments with stairs halls and corners, some walls with built in doors.
If I'm careful with where lights get placed,I reckon I can get segments with shadows and light in textures to match up pretty well whatever the combination so a large area could be built out of a few models in the usual way.

Great stuff Rolfy!! do you use Cartography or 3D World studio for this kind of build or is it done all in MAX and then imported to FPSC??

Just wondering as the use of the products as thinking about purchasing one or both?

This is amazing! It's great to see some commercial-quality work done in FPSC. (And 'classic', mind...) The water looks very 'modern', and the trees... simply stunning! I love the trees, and particularly the entrance to Marek's Lair.

How long did it take you to make all the custom media? Are you using 3ds max exclusively? Do you plan to make this commercial? (I would almost definitely purchase it!)

Thanks,
G2L

Been a little while since I posted anything for my game.
I have been busy with real life work recently, but I now have some quality time to spend on it.
I have begun creating some new characters, this one is not yet finished. The modeling and textures are still incomplete, but I thought I would post it as is for now to let folks see that I am still working on this.
