Who, in your opinion are the most well known forum members. You can include yourself if you think that.

Oh yeah, since I posted, I also want to say. A newb is someone new. A noob is someone new and who acts dumb like 'I wanna make an MMORPG. How to? or GIMME TEH CODEZ!'

Not even a strait suit, you, caramel, the recycling bin, uber code, and chuck norris combined can keep me safe from me. Mostly cuz I exist.

Me!

But seriously, all the above people. I'd even say maybe Matt Rock... although he's less frequent that before.

Matt? Naah. He's not really well known. I think most people know him as the 'toggle this post to avoid repetive eyestrain injury'-guy.
But he's a cool guy anyway.

All the Mods, some of the people from long, long ago, as well as Cash Curtis.

As for people who have left or Ive just not seen recently, Indi(before his explosion), CellBloc(all around great person, taught me the wonders of editing my posts ) and Exeat, always seemed to have something useful to say, and who could forget that orange haired fellow in his sig?

Who's most known differ from board to board. I don't consider myself a "known" member because i mostly cruise the geek Culture board.

Go to 20 line challenge or DarkBASIC Professional Discussion, and you'll see a whole batch of "unknown" people roaming around.

Loads of people I can't remember the names of from like 2000-2004. Ah, wait, what about Dr Av? (Dr Avalanche). He was pretty good. First decent demo from a forum member that I remember.

Most infamous though? Gotta be Indi. He started within a month of me (think about mid 2000) but absolutely carpet bombed everyone's post counts within a few months (we had a league table at the time, where I was third at one point with about 3000 posts, but about 5 times less posts than Indi at the time). Dude didn't sleep. Plus in the beginning he did a *load* of excellent free logos for people's games and companies. Very good.

Cheers

This list changes constantly, since I joined the forum, there have been hundreds if not thousands of users who have come and gone, some of them quite prominent in their time. I'd definitely know most of the old-time users, and I'd know a lot of the more over-zealous newer users who start a thread a minute...

How about BatVink?
He started out as a normal forum member, then become the writer of newsletter tutorials before become a Mod and the newsletter editor.

IanM - One of the most talented coders on this site. He has a huge collection of dll's that are available absolutely free of charge ... my hero

... and of course there is the chap that has had more forum names than the rest of the community combined but is now known as 'OSX happy user' or something aka Nicholas Kingsley the host and organiser of all of the unofficial conventions.

If you'd ever done any multi-player coding you'd know who he was, and I give repect where it's due especialy to people who release their DLLs for free!

Ah, what about Ash (think it was that; I'm rubbish with names)? He was pretty big in the community back in the day. Didn't he pretend to be a girl at one point...

Oh, getting a few names popping up, how about Traci I think her name was? She (and her artist modeller boyfriend) was massive a few years ago here because of that demo she was making. Equillibrium was it? Probably the biggest level of interest in a demo I've seen here. Was huge. Then I think she left to carry it on in Blitz or somesuch.

Traci and BF went to australia, so nothing became of equilibrium or the other projects they had planned.

Asheron did stick around the replacement forum for RGT, not sure what the ex-RGT folk are upto these days, except Lassix who does graphic work for Binary Zoo (mono, Echoes etc).

But I'm not sure how relevant they or Dr.Av are, given that there's probably only a fraction of people here who even know who these people are. But I have to add to the more obscure list with Kevil (Kevin Verbeek), he did a lot of ground work with memblocks that really helped us back in the day - and his math skills were about the best I've ever seen here. He still pops by very occasionally.

I'd probably add to the main list, Dazzag, Scraggle, Aikicat/Megaton Cat, Dark Coder, soapyfish, Animeblood/Cian Rice (Though he hasn't been around for a little while now), Oolite, Tha_Rami (He's just started picking up a reputation around here), Moondog and there's probably more that I can't think of.

Last time I talked to Asheron he told me he had quit coding altogether. Las6 is still on IRC a lot. Newbi2Basic (who I think was fairly well known on RGT) popped by recently, think he's in uni now.
Also, anymore remember Actarus?

There have been a lot of influential figures (now I think of it) at pivotal stages of DB evolution. Most of the guys that I remember have been mentioned, but some others from those early days are guys like Halo, Magellan, Shawn (aka Mr Starwraith), BigDan256, The Master Coder, Swift, Blivvy, Shivan and of GuyS.

And yourself of course Kevin, you should certainly be on the list.

It's funny how similar things happen to oldies - like TMC and Indi both kinda imploded in the same way, I suppose an unbalanced lifestyle takes it's toll over time. The thing that annoys me personally is when people jump ship, like switch to Blitz then do f-all in that before disappearing completely - like DB is not perfect but at least they had something to complain about!. After all these years I still don't know the full story behind GuyS - hell that's where I got my copy of DBPro (eventually!), he's a damn nice bloke.

Didn't someone spot him on a magicians board or something? He pretty much left without warning and all non-official boards have been cursed with the same fate since. I have this theory that TGC kidnap anyone who runs an unofficial db forum as a means of getting more members... I can hear them coming for me now!

Nope. Was very strange. Either he just couldn't be asked to deny it, or she was very clever in building up a reputation as a bloke so nobody would believe it when they found out. And you know what happens to birds on this forum (well *used* to happen at the very least).

Smartass used to be laugh too. Annoyingly though I am rubbish with names. Spacetaxi seems to ring a bell...

Although personally I used to be all over the forums like a rash pre-apollo and DBP days (<2002 really) and very rarely posted on the general forum, but then slumped like no tomorrow. And now hardly post anywhere else

Sigh, must get back to the amazingly boring programming I have to do today Stupid work...

Somebody's already said Lee Bamber...I suppose RickV and Mike Johnson would be on that list...however as somebody said 'all mods' it kind of includes them all anyway.

As Drew Cameron posted, I think he's another person to include, I mean Dumbow and Cool kicks arse and so does Milk Paton and everybody knows it.
