No offense, I really don't think that any of your "games" are worthy of a BotB.

Awwww...

On a much more on-topic note, level 1 is currently undecided. A rough plan that I might go with is that it's goung to start outdoor, go into an indoor area (which will be an abandoned building), and then outside again. Similar to level 1 in Splinter Cell.

Guess what, and you'll drop this in favour of something else, then you'll drop that in favour of something else, and then you'll drop that in favour of something else then you'll drop that in favour of something else, but then you'll drop that in favour......

Well, anyways, the first level will be an almost barren countryside in Kola outside of the town itself and you have to fight through it. I want to do an outside level, so...an outside level will be done.

I've been following this thread for a few weeks now just for the heck of it and all I gotta say is, American Infantry, I'm sorry you have to put up with all of this. Everyone here except that Dude123 guy seems to be bashing you for the most part. I'm not saying they have no reason to what they're saying, because I see their points, but enough's enough. You guys can let AI live a little. If you don't like him or his ideas just leave this thread and post in one about something you like. After pages of people bashing him for the same things over and over it's getting a tad bit old to come in and read now.

BMB, people post up games to get them crit. That's what we are doing but sometimes, crit can be harsh. A showcase is for games which have a solid structure to them and generally above average quality. While AI has some decent level design, there is no structure what-so-ever. This is not a game, this is a brain storm and until he's realises that he has to post solid evidence of a game up here and not little ideas and tests, we will continue to crit him.

FredP about 4 threads ago.
Quote: "From now on if you start another game just post about it in this thread....Amercian Infantry's Unfinished WIPs thread...
Seriously, until you actually accomplish something nobody around here is even going to take this seriously.
This is like the fifth or sixth game you have started.
heck,even if it's only a few levels..please,for the love of humanity...finish a game."

This is not an attack on AI btw. I actually quite like him... But he needs to get his act together and finish this game.

ON TOPIC
Quote: "I'm aiming to not do that, Coffee."

In several posts you've said you will DEFINETALY not stray from this game. Now you're merely aiming for it.

Give us some screens please... It's really going to be the only way to get us on your side :o

Well, since I may be getting what I need in a few days, I suppose now would be a great time to start.

Screenies of Mission 1, Level 1 (Kola: Countryside) coming soon. I wish that I could break up the game into different campaign in one .exe.

:::Update:::

Well, I don't know what to think. My brain is fried. I cannot think of a single idea for level one (the field idea is scrapped) to level 21 (except for level 19 being a missile silo). I'm thinking that the first level drops you behind the Russian Embassy in Kola (the Russian "diplomats" are all terrorists/mercenaries hired by al-Qaeda planning to bomb the building) and you have to find the bomb and deactivate it. You also have a chance to eliminate the leader of Seventh Freedom if you find him (actually, you'll never find him; he'll escape as soon as he's informed of counter-terrorist operative Vincent Marbourough inside the building). Here's a screen I took of a warehouse I made some time ago. Rate x/10, and enjoy!

No no no no no. I good time to have started is when you made this thread. You don't need weapons to make a layout of the level.

I don't even know why I've some what even followed this thread. It's just another typical thread made by AI.

Wow... just starting your game and the thread for it is already six pages. You need to watch what you say if you want people to start being nicer to you about your game making progress (or lack thereof).

@ Butt monkey,
What you said makes total since to me, and I understand where you're coming from. All I was basically asking was for everyone to let this thread die until he posts something worth commenting on. The reason this thread is so long is not just because AI's over hyping this, it's because people keep repeating the same things over and over about how he's not getting anything done and never seems to complete anything. That's been stated enough, so why not let it die untill he does get something done?

Happy St. Patrick's Day, everybody! I'm sure you all have noticed a new screen I posted yesterday. Please comment on it, thank you.

EDIT: I wish it just all be redone...I just finished reading one of my older threads here (the first Failure to Cooperate thread) and noticed how immature I was and how, well, no offense, ultimately rude and ungrateful some of you (only some) of you were back then. I pray to God that I dxo not have to go through that hell again.-
On a more Kola-related note, I may get those darned model packs either today or tomorrow (plays happy song) so Kola will be restarted, redone (except for the story, just throwing this out here) and sculpted into a work of pure, pixelated, 38fps art!! So stay tuned, stay focused, and please, for the love of all things biotic (living), don't get mean. I'm also holding a small, somewhat odd poll as to whether or not I should keep the ironsights on certain guns or not. Say for yes and for no. Dang, I wish there was a Guinness emiticon...ah well!

Hey, you got the MPs! Good, now I can see where this goes.

Though I do think it's a bit foolish for you to ask us to rate a screenshot, it is very nice. 9/10, I don't know why you didn't get a 10/10, I just didn't feel it was perfect. I'd like to see Kola keep going, and please don't kill this project now...

Nearly half of your screenshots are remakes of a warehouse, yet I don't really see an opportunity to use a warehouse level in your story. Stick to your story.

Pffft.

Check out this picture (attached): I used 8 pistols and a box of grenades to create this one-man battlefield. Also, how do I swap the hand textures to the 'stealth' one? Do I copy the Stealth folder and paste it into every gun folder or what?

AI,

I must say that you have me pretty much convinced that some dude didn't just make up ADD.

Honestly, I'm not flaming you here. I'm giving you advice, so listen up:

It's okay for a developer to have his own personal folder of "Didn't quite make it past the starting line" games and game ideas. Everyone has them, actually. But, here's the catch, and this part's rather important: the ones that developers choose to show off are ones that have already had LOTS of work put into them. By "LOTS", I mean, you have the story idea down, a few levels to show off (at least for an FPSC game), some core mechanics of how the game works, as well as some things in your game to show that it's DIFFERENT from other games.

The only time it's okay to tell people "Hey, I'm gonna work on this idea I have. This is what I've got so far..." and then tell them about the little amount of work you've done, is when you're chatting online with your friends. Boards such as this one are designed for WIP or Finished Games. In the actual WIP board (designed for games made in practically everything), they even have a sticky titled "How to know if your game is ready for WIP", or something like that. I suggest you read it, because it will most likely apply here as well.

With all of that said, look past the sarcasm and spastic muttering of the crowd you've gathered and listen to what they have to say. As harsh as they may sound, it's true, we WANT to see you get some progress on this. Even if you make only a SINGLE level for this game, I think I'd be happy, so long as that level showed us that you honestly worked on it.

Give up on this project if you must, but before you do, give us something to look at in this thread other than an empty room. (Yes, they are empty rooms... regardless of having entities, there's nothing going on worth mentioning) A real level would be nice!

The one and only,

Well, since Kola's arsenal/enemies are now here, I can start. I'm planning for level 1 to be an infiltration into the Kola Municipal Building, but that will be level 2 (the Municipal Building). Level 1 is that you have to follow a sub-basement filled with enemies to get up to the actual basement.

We don't need to know any of this. Don't post your ideas and brainstroms on this thread, no one is interested in them tbh. Post them along with screens, that's the way to go. Don't reply to this post either Unless you have a screen.

This is making me laugh, why are there six pages in this thread that continues to grow, and only a handful of screens? I'm sure the game could be decent but you're on level one. ONE level. I had like 10 levels in my first game and only one page of replies.. I mean no offense or disrespect but, come on and give us some screens(please)!

Posted at the right time. Level one is now (and officially) a weapons warehouse; importing and exporting weaponry. Here is an early WIP pic of the storage room. Enjoy and please comment/crititize and rate x/10, thank you.

All of those weapons are static, obviously. If they were all dynamic, my FPS would be, like, -500.

Here is a new screenshot of the warehouse. It is still under construction, but this my what I have, enjoy!

Indeed...

I think that you should go through this room by room, scouring your entitybank for absolutely every entity that would fit into that room's atmosphere....storage rooms need shelves and cabinets, barrels, etc....sci-fi spaceships have technological gizmos and computer screens,etc.....

You gotta build the levels to fit the story, not build the story to fit the level...

Well, since level 1 is a weapons warehouse, there'll be boxes and boxes of ammo and explosives on the shelves, and there'll also be an armory, complete with weapons lockers (I don't know who made them) with either dynamic or static weapons inside.

A bump turned into post #250, news at 11...

Level 1 is now gonna be an office in the USA. It is where the counter-terrorist team Bureau of Counter-Terrorism & Conflicts (BCT&C) is stationed whenever international attention is not needed in certain areas. I felt that the game should begin in a state of peace, but suddenly emmerse into war. Here is an e-mail the main character, Officer Vincent Marbourough, recieved from an affiliate:
"To: Vincent Marbourough {vmarbourough@bctc.gov}
From: Richard Kamrey {rkamrey@bctc.gov}
Subject: Possible terrorism in Kola Peninsula

Vinnie,
Did you hear of a new terrorist group arising in Kola sometime ago? I saw it on the news last night. al-Qaeda is hiring Russian mercenaries to help with global terror. I have informed the Joint Chiefs of this, and they're looking into this. Pray to God this is a scam; a plot to scare the living crap outta us.
-Rich
P.S.: Come and grab a coffee with me and Joe for a few, we need to catch up on times."

This e-mail starts the story. The second level (American Embassy via Moscow) will have you searching for top-secret files on the mercs. The BCT&C is a spin-off of the CIA, a sister agency. Please rate the e-mail thingy x/10, and leave a comment, thank you.
