Hi, Herakles, thanx for listening and for your comments. Yeah, those drums need a bit of adjustement, and maybe give them a more realistic sound.

Quote: "The guitars sound a little weak on the low end, but the riffs are very well written."

Glad that you liked those riffs. Not bad for someone who did'nt had any guitarlessons, hey? Yeah, they need a bit more bass and punch.

Quote: "I've never been a big fan of completely computer generated sound effects"

Only the last song has computer sound effects (keyboard). The first one is completely without effects. The drums are samples from a real drum, and the bass guitar i did with my normal guitar, but added alot of punch and a bit of distortion to it, to make it sound low and heavy. Maybe the songs sound a bit to mechanical, but as i said, they need more adjustement, like the drumbeats that are not finished.

Well, that's the spirit!
I'll be glad to listen to one of your recordings some day?
Thanx again for your comments, and hope to hear your stuff real soon...

Yeah, but you can't compare Slayer to that crap, hey? I am just saying that Slayer are on of the best in their genre, and alot of metalbands where inspired by them. So saying that Slayer is crap, is just like saying that al those other bands who followed their style of metal are crap to.

I did'nt mean to sound harsh or supreme or better. My point was just that there are talented metalbands, and metalbands that screw metal up. To me well played metal by talented bands is never crap. As long as metal is not f**ked up, it sounds good. You can for example have 4 talented musicians and a singer that sings like s**t and ruins the song. Well, that would be crap.

I think that the keyboards could be toned down to focus on the guitar and drums, but keep them. They add a different touch to the music, it sounds nice.

Thanx for the advice, budokaiman. I will keep the keyboards, and do a little tweaking on them. And also on the drums.

Say, do you play any musical instrument?

They sound realistic enough, it's just that there are way too many actual drumbeats. The drums are going way too fast for the guitar.

I came up with a list for "awards" for the albums that came out in 2009. Here it is:

Tell me what you guys think should go in those spots, later I'll post what I think.

Hm budokaiman, i see that you like Dream Theater and Queensrÿche and also Megadeth. Great bands, don't you think? I've heard that Megadeth are back from the dead?

Say, are you still playing drums? Are'nt your neighbours complaining when you're playing? And what kind of guitar do you have?

@ The Slayer:
Queensrÿche are my main influence in music, not my all-time favorite band, but definitely my influence. The new Megadeth album is great, and without a doubt, like their older music. It earned being the album of the year for me.
I play a B.C. Rich Warlock, with GHS boomers at the moment, and I use dunlop 3.0mm jazz picks, I use the stock 25 watt, 60 HZ amp and a Digitech RP350 modeling processor.

Nice piece of equipment you have there, man! That would fit really good in my arsenal!
I like your style! How much did it cost (if i may ask)? B.C.Rich-guitars are one off my favorites.
Do you prefer the old Queensrÿche, or their newer stuff?

Awesome looking guitar!

I have to agree about Endgame. I haven't heard much music from 2009, because I've been saving my money for a new PC. But, from the few albums I have bought recently, Endgame is certainly the best. I would say that it is Megadeth's return to form (their previous album, United Abominations, was that), but it's certainly a great leap in terms of quality. They really are getting closer and closer to the level of their older stuff. I still wouldn't quite put it up there with Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying, or any of their other classic stuff. But Endgame is certainly just as good as, if not better than, Countdown to Extinction.

Anyone a fan of Guns N' Roses? I am obsessed with them. I have read the biographies, Slash's in particular, I have the albums, including Chinese Democracy.

I play guitar and drums pretty well, and I used to write music with guitar pro.

Well, Live Era is a great album, live versions are always better then studio versions.

And Slash's Autobiography is great. It has some really interesting facts in there. But Slash is not the greatest writer, he says "...But we will get to that later..." every 5 pages. Then he doesn't get to it. But other then that it is a great read.

I don't really understand this comment. They wrote music the way they wanted too, and guess what? They ended up the most popular band on the planet for about 5 years.

Never mind. I was just making a joke about their attire.

But no, I don't like Guns n' Roses. They're not heavy enough for me, and I can't stand the singer.

Riffs were fantastic and whilst the lyrics were pretty good I felt they weren't fitted into the songs that well. The timing just doesn't appear to my ears at all. I also thought the drums sounded a bit sterile. All-over a great album though.

Depends on who it is your listening to.
Bands like AC\DC are great on the album, and they sound exactly the same live. It suits them.

Queen and Guns N' Roses play riffs, solos and sometimes the whole song differently.

I just prefer live albums, you can almost feel the energy that people talk about after being to a good rock concert.

I'd heavily have to disagree, though for some bands, live acts are worse than studio acts because the studio versions can be played with and offer different conditions (Devil Driver I thought sounded worse live, for example). Sometimes in a live show, sound set up can be poor, for example, when I saw Iced Earth in 2007, FANTASTIC show, sound really great, loved it, when I saw them in 2008, sounded awful, whilst they had a different singer, I'd argue that his singing wasn't the problem but the general set up. In a live show you do have a lot of atmosphere and things can also sound better. However, for some artists, even when recorded it can sounds better than on CD - you might account the acoustics of a venue or even the adrenaline to perform better (which can happen, a level of anxiety can leave a stage performer to do better on stage than off, Yerkes-Dodson law I believe is the appropriate psychological explanation)

Sometimes too, from live to CD, it can sound different - I watch the recorded videos for Kerrang after I watched Metallica at download and it didn't sound as good as it did standing in the audience.

For example, the vocals on this recording:

I also disagree. Live versions can be so much better, depending on the band. Deep Purple, possibly the greatest live band of all time (that is open for interpretation however). Red Hot Chili Peppers, are supposed to be live, their whole music is about the performance and the raw energy that they all have. Vs. DragonForce who are atrocious live (however, based off of their studio albums there can't be much to expect (sorry to all DF fans, just my opinion)).

I also happen to agree. Dragonforce, great shredders, but not a great band musically IMO, not particularly interesting either. I know the people rave on about how great guitarists they are because they can shred so fast, but from what I understand, they're lacking in what a lot of other guitarists are strong in. As writers of music too, they're poor in my opinion, because, at least recently, there isn't much of a sound that separates their songs.

I saw them live in 2006, I thought they weren't bad live then (relative to their CDs) - though the sound set up was poor, but we were in a spot that had the right balance, so we didn't make those complaints. But I've heard from friends who have seen them since and they just said, "Dragonforce have lost it".

Also, watch in awe and the brilliance of the Australian Pink Floyd show as they play classic Pink Floyd tracks, whilst they are a tribute band, they have their own greatness. Live on DVD, fantastic, live in real life...wow. Whilst we don't have studio recordings (as we only have PF to compare with) they're pretty amazing.

I've heard several Dragonforce songs. ABSOLUTELY UNBEARABLE. I hate their singer, and the guitars have no punch whatsoever. And the shredding isn't impressive at all. It takes very little effort to go crazy on two or three notes really fast. In fact, it's almost effortless to anyone who's been playing guitar for any considerable length of time.

There are many that weren't recorded in Japan, but it's just an observation.

Although I've never really listened to much Moby, but I've always enjoyed the music of his that I've listened to.

He's perhaps an artist to add to my mellow collection, I don't have enough mellow CDs, so I'm actually in the process of expanding that collection.

Lately I've been getter a lot of heavy music, but I would like to add more blues. It's really good to have a wide variety of music, especially if you play an instrument. Music Theory classes are the biggest joke, IMO. All that you really need to write good, creative music, is a large variety of influences.

I've got a lot of heavy music, although I have quite a few bands to chill out to, they're mainly metal. For blues, my collection is limited, and because my Dad is a Gary Moore nut (even a member of his fan club ) I can't actually stick on any more of his records because I've heard them that much. However, last year I went through an Otis Taylor and Jeff Beck phase and they are both simply, awesome.

Ah, screw Overkill, they cost Nightwish 30 minutes off of their set at Bloodstock.

Kidding of course, if bands were allowed to played passed 11pm in the UK, it wouldn't have been a problem.
