Yep, and see us drinking, dancing, and dressing up in all kinds of "street furniture"

I got some good news for me today - the massive unmovable job I get involved every year got moved up a week - I am now staying Sunday night too! Yippee

Now all that I've got to do is arrange for a new laptop ...

Did they finally discover that the job was on wheels?

I did not touch any street furniture last year.

Hello Bouncy

Would you mind editing the first post to include all the good stuff that us friendly citizans need to know in order to attend.

Like a link to the ship inn, prices, nearby train stations / airports etc.

And maybe what to expect when we get there.

I know all this stuff is here somewhere but 8 pages is a lot to dredge through to find it ... thanks

Now my attendance is in jeopardy (no, not the TV programme). My Aunty has elected to hold her 60th birthday party on the Saturday evening. I am obviously obligated to attend that.

My current emergency response plan is to attend the Con for as long as possible on Saturday morning and into early afternoon, then drive back to London in time to catch the party.

Needless to say this is all very disappointing. I was looking forward to the usual two day jaunt.

Bouncy, I'll let you know how these arrangements go as you may need to reschedule my talk to a time when I am actually present, i.e. Saturday morning. Irrespective of that, I've paid in advance and even if I have to pull out entirely, I'll be quite happy for you to keep the cash as I know you have already financially committed yourself to things.

Cheers

Philip

Indeed it is ... thanks a lot

I shall be there.
I can fly to Gatwick from Teeside for £1.99 (Yes really One Pound and Ninety Nine Pence!) each way and get a train to chichester for £20 return. I might turn up on thursday. The extra cost of the hotel is outweighed by the cheaper flight.

Anyhow glad you will be able to make it. The train ride is only 1hr iirc and the ship is easy to get to from the train station.

Any airport taxes or anything on that Scraggle? And have you booked it yet? Sounds like the price for a very advanced booking.

Now stop and ask yourself what an airline company which has just charged a lot of £1.99 fares might decide to chop to try and reduce the whacking great loss it just made ... hmmm ... perchance safety standards?

Why do I mention this? At the last Aviation Club dinner in London, of which I am a humble but interested member, I sat next to a CEO of an airline engineering/maintenance company. He spent the whole of the meal bleating on about how a lot of budget airline companies are cutting their safety procedures to the bone and how "one day" a "plane will fall out of the air".

In the meantime, Scraggle, my advice: take along some sellotape and a pair of scissors just in case you have to effect emergency repairs in flight.

Theres a thought to ,er, bear (ahem) in mind as you're taking off.

I'm such a $"%"£%!"%"%£"$%"% hehehe

Yours controversially

He'll be out on the wing desperately trying to tape it back onto the airframe. I'll be interested to see him fly the plane from there.

Hmm, interesting. Perhaps if he chooses to fly on a plane that is specific in that the cockpit is out on the wing that is most likely to snap then he will be able to multitask

Actually I fix them not fly them. To be honest some of the 'fixes' I have performed have been quite frightening! If a plane can still fly after the things I have done to it then anything can fly
But I will be sure to give the thing a good once over before getting onboard.
Thanks for your concern.

Once, at Heraklion airport in Crete, I saw a greek technician chappie climb onto the wing of my 737 and bash one of the flaps with his hammer until it went up and down correctly again.

It was at that exact instant that I swore, and I mean I SWORE, never to fly with Dan Air ever ever again.

Sometimes a good hammer is all you need. I have been fixing equipement (not airplanes) for about 10 years now. Sometimes things just get bent and need a litle adjusting

WD40 is the answer to everything. My dad's video player was squeaking, so he opened the flap and sprayed WD40 into it. It never squeaked again.

Actually, it never worked again either, but the squeak was gone.

Probably all that WD40 killed the mouse who was turning the wheel to make the heads of the VCR spin.

This is not a double post as I'm posting a few days after the previous one.

Anyway, further update. I'm beginning to suspect the Universe is out to get me. I've now got a two week trial listed to begin on the Monday after the Convention.

Hopefully this shouldn't pose any probs. However, based on experience, things might get horribly hectic at work in the week beforehand. Hey ho. At least I have a junior associate to do all the donkey work.

Still, I don't believe it. I'm most miffed.

Yours miffedly

I think Southampton Airport (SOU) is nearest.

Don't know where you live Philip, but if you live in London it's probably not worth flying LHR/LGW to SOU. If you live in East Anglia you might be able to fly STN-SOU. Up north there may be some people flying LBA-SOU and I know for a fact loads fly MAN-SOU, flybe used a Dash 8 last time I checked.

Here's your route from SOU: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=SOU+to+chichester&spn=0.595800,0.971947&hl=en
