Footy fans don't forget the opening game Germany v Costa Rica is on in a few hours. I reckon Germany will win this one.

You think? Almost spooky like prediction there Actually I have Costa Rica in a sweepstake. No chance on that one. Could win the wooden spoon prize though for team who concedes the most goals. I'm on for that one I reckon.

Yeah - France v Senegal in 2002, and Argentina back in 1990

I'm half german so I'm really hoping Germany do well this time round...especially seeing as it's on home turf.

There is always one big team that turns out to be rubbish that year, and one rubbish one that does well.

Think I read something once though that said the country hosting the world cup (ie. germany) have always got through to the second round.

Anyone else see Rooney playing 10 minutes before breaking his foot and never being the same again (as I like to call it, "Doing an Owen")

Remember all, now that all good programs on TV have been replaced with green fields, international violence, and immoral team players faking injuries or attempting to cause them, you should dedicate yourself to making that perfect game you've always dreamed of. There is nothing to distract you now.

P.S. If you make a footie game, I will have to hunt you down.

hmm...to be honest I think England will win, but only just. 2-1 England. Paraguay are not a weak team.

ps. How great were Lahm's and Frings's goals!!! Watching them over and over again on the BBC website. Come on Germany!

I only watch the world cup when it comes to football. England will win today easy.

I'm also rooting for the Czechs, and the Dutch. I hate it when the same old teams always win.

I don't reaaly understand this attitude in the press though that if Rooney is fit, we have a good chance of winning the cup. How much can one player do? I always thought it was a team game.

Well England played like a bag of festering turds in the second half. The sooner Sven is mysteriously drowned in a giant pitcher of his own urine, the better. I was miffed by our opening game. We have the second favourite team in the compo, a cracking side, and still the complete inability to do anything that requires an IQ higher than a cabage in the second half.

Rubbish rubbish rubbish rubbish rubbish performance. Paraguay deserved a goal in the second half. They'd better sort themselves out pretty soon else T&T of all teams could be beating us down. 1-0, totally undeserved. Hopefully all this will change.

I hate Sven Gorbachof Sony Erikson.

England were bad...without the own goal they would have been in deep trouble...and what was sven doing taking off owen and replacing him with a midfielder? should have been going for another goal - crouch was left completely alone and pointless up front and paraguay were still having loads of chances.

Hopefully the TT game will allow us to batter somebody, Jamaica style. And perhaps give Wayne a 20 minute run out. Come on lads, we proved we can score 9 goals in one week last week. Lets do it again.

I don't know anything about football, but the second half was diabolical.

Do they never learn? They always score one and then try and defend for the rest of the game! When England are on the attack, no team can get close to even having a shot. Unfortunately, they always try to defend a 1-0 lead. Taking Owen off was just plain dumb. Stupid git (Sven) never learns. Every England game always turns out the same.

Does anyone else feel sorry for the USA? Same group as Italy and the Czechs? Damn, they're screwed.

hmmm....I wouldn't be too sure about that - did you watch the sweden - T&T game? TT's defence is solid and they're very pacy on the counter.

Apparently tommorow fifa are going to decide whether england's goal was an own goal or Beckham's. I think it'll stay an own goal tbh...the player got a clear flick of the ball.

Watched Argentina v Ivory Coast last night. Ivory coast surprised me, I thought they might even win. But they didn't take any of their chances and Argentina didn't mess about with their chances. Good games yesterday! And good start for England result wise. Holland and Portugal are playing today, should be good.

I'm hoping the evening kick offs will help bolster England against TT and Sweden. The swedes look a bit short of confidence, and against TT we just need to play with confidence and style - while they may be enjoying the occasion we need to remember that we are better than them, and can beat them if we play well. Giving them time on the ball only bolsters their confidence.

That should be "you everybody but America and your football matches" I'll think you will find. BTW, only 3 year olds and americans call it soccer (Sokkaaa). Weirdly all american sports are (gotta love world "series" stuff....) normally ignored everywhere else and visa versa. Strange eh? Luckily football is the best sport ever, so no worries And we don't have to wear kevlar for Rugby

So you missed that world cup with Maradonna then? Hand of god b*****d genius that he was....

Oh, and we didn't play well, but who really cares? 3 points. C'MON ENGLAND!!!!

Now to start playing that pathetic Embrace song.... ahem... with the world at you feet, and.... oh I can't do it c'mon you know the national anthem... *40* years of hurt!...etc...

@Dazzag & David T: I was joking, I hate basketball. I watched some of the world cup today at work, Italy vs Czech, pretty good, especially with my view of Italy being extremely awesome I used to play soccer, but my dreams were crushed when all the elite pwning kids owned me and all the other kids when I was in 6th grade. Now those kids knew soccer. Yes, I call it soccer, not football, but you have to mind us americans, we are a europeanly backwards culture, almost completely ignoring our roots since the 1960's!

edit: or maybe I am confused...who played Italy<.<

Are you kidding!!! We WON 3-1 VS Japan in a period of what, 10-15 minutes!!! I was never a sport fan but now (Thanks to my Italian grand-parent!) I love soccer! I am hoping either Australia wins or Italy (I am half of both!). But is neither of these then Mexico (My brother has a sweepstake on them!). Only one problem, I have to watch the re-plays! So annoying!
Keep going Australia!

Italy played Ghana. I don't know what the score was though.

The Czech Republic beat USA 3-0. I enjoyed the game, although it was a bit one-sided. I think the USA only had one shot in the entire match.

Too bad the Philippines doesn't participate in FIFA. Maybe then I'd have more interest in the sport. It's kinda hard to jump into it all of a sudden since I don't know the personalities, rules, best bets, etc.

Is Pro Evolution Soccer any good?
