Damn...Germany lost :-( Was a great match though, could have gone either way. Had it gone to penalties though, Germany would have won no problem...

I think the German team shouldn't be too upset though, they played extreemly well throughout the tournament and got a lot further than was originally thought.

I want France to win now

The first goal scored by Italy against Germany in that game was beautiful.

I expected Germany to win. I would never have heard the end of it from my German friend if Germany had gotten any futher in the World Cup.

france beat italy in european cup finals of 2000, and beat them in semifinals of 1998 to then beat brazil in the finals. if you ignore the results of the last world cup, this would suggest that if france beat portugal, they'd easily win the tournament.

if that happened, then i'd be amazed, considering france's poor performance at the start.

i must express my grievences for germany/italy though, even more than i feel sorry for england getting beaten by portugal. germany were so close, but i think they were getting over confident with the prospect of penalties not so far away, and then seemed to give up after the goal when there was still enough time for a last minute panic, and instead let italy score a second.

The whole of England hates Ronaldo now. Heh. I hated him first though, way before it became the cool new thing...

I'm really upset that Italy won though. The only team I hate more that Italy is Portugal. If it's an Italy-Portugal final, all I can hope for is a pyrrhic victory of some kind. Maybe Portugal win (so we go out to the winners), but Ronaldo gets decapitated or something.

So uhh, never thought I'd say this but....Go France!

I'm angry at Ronaldo. What's with him being all chubby now? You can't chase the ball AND cheeseburgers at the same time... it's either one or the other.

yeah i'm glad France won, but they weren't the best team I thought. Much as though I hate to say it, Ronaldo was the best player out there tonight and Portugal could have gone through had it not been for the penalty. Portugal do dive way too much, ref should have done something about that.

France need to play like they did against France if they're going to beat Italy.

i just had a thought.

notice how the game was most intense towards the end when the goal keeper came up?

also notice how they didnt even need a keeper? there were only 2 shots made by the fernch, one of them being the penalty which he failed the ave, the other being henry's shot which he only just saved but then lost to a corner.

also, for most of the first and last quarters of the game, the ball rarely left the french half

therefore, don't you think that if portugal played with 11 strikers, no goalkeeper or defenders, they would have won?

No, their defense was their strongest point.

Well, I've been away for a week an look what has happenned!

1) We beat England (could have gone either way - and I admit I'm split on Rooney's fault being an intentional ball-crusher). As for the bad rap England press gives Ronaldo, well, I agree he's a bit of a twat but he's a good footballer - and that's what he's paid to do. On a more general note, though - and this from someone who has lived in the past in the UK for over 5 years and quite enjoyed it - I must say that the blinkered coverage slant a lot of the British media gives some things, namely Portugal's posture in this championship does you all a disservice. Oh, and Sky News, if you're reading this, "Portuguese" has two U's in it, it's not Portugese!

2) We lost against France, which I kinda expected because there is - I believe - an inability at atomic level (that borders the methaphysical) for Portugal to ever beat the bloody French... though again, it could have gone either way. Zidane, Henry and that other bloke with a scar played well imho;

3) We just lost against Germany. I didn't see this game though so I really don't know if we deserved to lose that heavily or not. What I do know is that, as much as I like Luiz Felipe Scollari, I can't for the life of me understand wht he keeps fiealding Pauleta - HE CAN'T FLIPPIN PLAY!

Anyway, I did watch Germany-Italy and thought both teams were pants, sorry to say. Dull, dull game. From there I wouldn't guess that Germany would beat us... and, likewise, I don't have many hopes that Italy will beat France.

I will be rooting for Italy, tomorrow, though (sorry French gui).

I have vague plans for World Domination

Woot Germany won third! Schweinsteiger scored two brilliant goals , the third being an own goal from his free kick too. First half was uninteresting, second half was great. I think Germany deserved to win that game, especially with how they've been playing this tournament.

Ah come on! Don't go getting the World Cup thread locked now... that's a no no.

I think that France will will the Cup. Their strategy seems to be working on all the other teams. My bet is 1-0 France. If they win I'm painting myself red white and blue(like the french flag), and streaking through the italian neighbourhoods!

ALLEZ LES BLEUS!

I would never dress myself up in the american flag, that's a grade A way to get your ass kicked. I wouldn't dress up in the engilsh flag aren't they out? Either way, it's the streaking part that really matters.

Ehehehe... I was joking, in case you didn't notice. I half expect that a Canadian wearing a US flag would be similar to a Scotsman wearing the England flag or, indeed, a Portuguese wearing the Spanish colours...

He did, still no excuse for head butting him in the chest.

Congrats to Italy, I think they deserved to win the match, although before I though France should have won, but Italy changed my mind. Hopefully my Dad's work give him and his work team mates something good now that Italy won.

if i were zidane, i'd come back in euro 2008, i wouldn't wanna let that red card be the very last moment of my carrier, then again, he wouldnt be the first frenchman in this situation... cantona?

i dont believe zidane almost got away with it though, only one of the assistant ref's noticed, and that was after it was played on the big screen.

imo, the italian guy should have got a yellow at least for provoking the attack, probably wanting to risk everything he could to see zidane getting sent off, especially after henry came off too.

i never understood why henry was made to play upfront by himself so much, and then to make things worse, whenever someone was needed upfront after one of ribery's dribbles, no one was there...

im not happy i was going for france. That stupid matterazzi must have insulted Zidane's mother or something. Had he scored that header and not got carded, he would have been player of the tournament. V Brazil? Magic.
