Oh.

Well, I don't have the whole album. So...Yeah. The lyrics of just one song confuse me.

And Slayer: Epic guitar there! The beginning reminded me of a horror movie or something, but the guitar I loved. That was awesome.

The beginning is really cool, it sounds like getting ready for a battle, and making swords, but the music... You have obviously been listening to Demon Hunter lately, and I am glad, I loved the fast paced, alternacore-ness of it, and the Pantera style riffs. I really can't wait to hear what else you have up your sleeve, every time you post something new, you just keep getting better and better.

Thanks! Yeah, the intro is kinda creepy or like getting ready for battle, but it goes well with the music, hey?

Thanks for the good comments! Yep, I've been listening more frequently to Demon Hunter lately, mainly because I like their music and also because of the fact that I didn't hear of them before. The music shops in my hometown are kinda limited in the numbre of available metalbands, which makes me sad...
I have a lot more up my sleeve, and lots of inspiration, but it all varies from day to day.
And as for getting better, that's a great compliment, thanks!
I guess some metalstyles suit me better, but I try to play different styles to improve my skills and to obtain a unique style of my own.

Cheers

Thanks, mate! I'm very pleased you enjoyed it! Yeah, there's definately some Behemoth influence in it, hey?

Without a doubt! I have more riffs like that.

I just came up with this and recorded it. That short song I was working on is coming together nicely, though it isn't done yet (it's more than just one or two riffs, so the recording process will take some time, but at least I've started now). I hope this small sample will be satisfactory in the meantime.

Nice, Herakles! I definately see the thrash influences there! I'll add my part to it and some drums and post it when it's ready, okay? How is your guitar tuned, Herakles? Is it tuned down, or not at all? BTW, nice lovely sound you've got there! Which amp (or FX processor) and what guitar do you use?

Cheers

I can't record stuff, because of an infected finger, but I have time to write stuff up on guitar pro. Hopefully anything that is a midi or isn't me playing will be replaced soon.

I any of you have guitar pro 4 and up, do you want to hear my acoustic song thingy. I started writing it a few weeks ago and got bored, and I just remembered it yesterday.

This is a midi of the song I wrote. I might record it with a real guitar when my finger heals.

I just have one more riff to record and two mini solos and then my mini song will be done.

Quote: "I might record it with a real guitar when my finger heals."

Please do, I hate midi. Don't get me wrong, it's well written. It's not really metal, but it's very well written for what it is. I just can't stand midi at all.

For some reason, that reminded me of the minions in Overlord.

If you really want to sing (or "scream" as you say) like that, use this song as your example:

Oh and sorry about the lack of news concerning my recordings. The great nemesis of all creativity (family and all that real life crap) has gotten in the way.

Well, it's very... quiet. Screaming is loud, and brutal. You definitely have some work to go, also try to get a good range. Here are some songs that you should use as examples because they have something unique that you should learn.

Demon Hunter - Beheaded (has very deep growls, but also higher pitched screams, the pre-chorus screams are something that you should work on.)

Inhale Exhale - Did You Ever have a Touch to Lose (to practice holding your screams.)

Throwdown - This continuum (he has a deeper voice, which is good, if you can do deeper voices a long with emo/metalcore screaming.)

Demon Hunter - Follow the Wolves (You can't always just listen to studio recordings and try to match what they sound like, vocalists do sound different live, Ryan Clark, I think, is the best live metalcore vocalist. This song is also a good example of singing followed by immediate screaming.)

Well, Mad Nightmare, I think your singing isn't bad at all, but it does need more body, brutality and intonation. How good are you at melodic or classical singing? I think that you need to have a good base to become a good 'grunter' or 'screamer'. Practice makes perfect as they say, so get started!
Try out different singing styles to find out what you do best, and create a style of your own.

I'm working on the lyrics to go with my previous recording that I posted here a while ago. Not that I'm a good singer (I sing like a pig on fire! ), but maybe I'll post it too, so you can judge me, hey?

And, last but not least, STAY METAL!

Quote: "Oh and sorry about the lack of news concerning my recordings. The great nemesis of all creativity (family and all that real life crap) has gotten in the way."

Well, I do hope to hear some more recordings from you soon, though? I have recorded plenty riffs in different styles. Some good, and some are very good IMO. Maybe I'll post some of them later.

Hum, for someone who can't sing, you're screaming pretty decent! Your last recording sounds better than the first one.
Like I said, practice makes perfect, right?

I've just recorded some riffs and made the beginning of a song, and I think it sounds pretty awesome. This song will be on a CD that I plan to distribute. So, here it is. Any comments or critics are welcome. Enjoy!

@Mad Nightmare:
Maybe you could do the singing for this song (and the other songs I'm recording)? What do you think? Is it your type of music?

Hum, maybe I could write the lyrics and give you some pointers. I'll probably do some singing and/or screaming too. How about that? I'll have to finish the song first, though.

So, no comments yet on my latest recording? Hum, weird. I thought it sounded pretty awesome, but apparently no one finds it good enough to comment on?

Well, I had a chance to listen to your song, it isn't my favorite, but it is still very good. I can definitely hear the Behemoth/Mastodon in it.

Where/when will it be in distribution? I'll definitely buy it when it comes out, it's good to see that you are able to start something.

On a side note, which is your favorite than?

Quote: "Where/when will it be in distribution? I'll definitely buy it when it comes out, it's good to see that you are able to start something."

Not sure when yet, but I'll keep you informed. I'm working on three songs now who are almost finished. The last two recordings will definately be on the disk, and there will be nine or ten songs. The latest recording I'll probably speed up a bit, though.

Quote: "I do think it sounds rather cool, especially the intro."

I'm pleased that you love the sound. Yeah, I can see some simularity's with Avenged Sevenfold. One of your favorite bands?

Quote: "Sure. How about you do the singing parts, and I'll do the screaming parts?"

Yep, that's fine by me. As soon as I have a complete song, I'll write the lyrics and then we can discuss and take care of the singing parts, right?

Today I made some progress on my latest recording, so I was wondering what you all think about it. I did some minor changes (like speeding it up ) and adding more riffs. At the beginning of the song I 'grunted' or 'screamed' (or whatever you might call it ), so it would be nice to hear your comments about the song and my vocals. The song isn't finished yet, but I already have 4 or 5 riffs to go with it. So, feel free to comment or critic. Enjoy!

Cheers

I'm here, I'm here.

I just don't post much on this thread much. I'm more of a lurker here.

I did listen to it, though I didn't have time to comment on it. I personally do not like screaming, but I think you did good at it. Everything else is good and very clean and well put together. Plus it's overall awesome.

So yeah, good job and I'll try to post more in this thread.

Ok, I was able to listen to it. Personally, I much prefer the growls over screams, so I'd say to stick with that. Also, it was interesting how fast it could go from sounding like old-school death metal, to thrash. I heard a large amount of Megadeth for parts of it, but also some Sepultura.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind. I think grunting and screaming combined with singing would sound awesome, IF done correctly, that is.

Quote: "Also, it was interest how fast it could go from sounding like old-school death metal, to thrash."

Some variation in styles of metal can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on who's listening to it, hey?
But, did you mean the overall sound, or just the riffs or just the drumparts that sounded more like death/thrash?

Quote: "I heard a large amount of Megadeth for parts of it, but also some Sepultura."

Hum, that is a very nice comment to hear! Not that I intentionally wanted to sound like two of the best thrashbands ever, but thanks a lot, mate!
Did you feel that the riffs sounded well together? And did the overall sound give you the feeling of a unique sound, or rather like just any other metalband?

Thanks, budokaiman!

Sorry I can't post on this forum very much anymore. As I've said numerous times, real life is getting in the way.

Your recordings are all pretty good, Slayer. "A cross between Megadeth and Sepultura" is a pretty good description. One thing that irks me is the drums. I don't mean to sound overly critical, but the drums are so over the top it makes it hard to hear the awesome guitar riffs.

Also, the "grunt" in the latest one gave me a chuckle (the good kind of chuckle).

was gonna comment on the drums, too, but not necessarily "so over the top"; more like "a bit much". i'd go for a few less cymbals @ :30 and :45, et al, and a bit lower/deeper drum. i'm a big fan of gene hoglan so something like this (at ~0:50 for the fast parts of yours) would suffice

btw, i always enjoy checking in on this thread. the slayer always makes me smile with whatever he offers here, but i'm looking forward to someone else working with him on a song or 2

Too bad to hear, Herakles.
I was hoping on some kind of cooperation with you for a forum metalband.

Quote: "Your recordings are all pretty good, Slayer."

That pleases me to hear, man. I have a lot of inspiration the last few months. Don't know what's happening to me lately. Probably bitten by some metalvirus, I guess.

Quote: "I don't mean to sound overly critical, but the drums are so over the top it makes it hard to hear the awesome guitar riffs."

Well, I could tone them down a bit. I like to hear every instrument in a song, but yeah, the drums need some adjusting.
And, to hear that you find my guitarriffs awesome, is a great compliment, especially since you're a fellow guitarist. Thanks!

Quote: "Also, the "grunt" in the latest one gave me a chuckle (the good kind of chuckle)."

Hahaha, that made me laugh. Glad you enjoyed it.

Quote: "was gonna comment on the drums, too, but not necessarily "so over the top"; more like "a bit much". i'd go for a few less cymbals @ :30 and :45, et al, and a bit lower/deeper drum."

Yeah, they definately need a small 'face-lift'.
Those cymbals are a bit too loud, I agree. But, I think the overall sound needs some remixing, because I still have to add the vocals and the guitarsolo's too. Lowering the volume of the bassdrum, will automatically reduce the brightness of them. But, I think that bassdrums are very important in metalmusic (or any other kind of music) to give structure to a song, so I'm trying to keep them clear, but not too much.

Quote: "i'm a big fan of gene hoglan so something like this (at ~0:50 for the fast parts of yours) would suffice"

Great drummer, and GREAT band! Too bad Chuck past away. Do you mean the speed of the bassdrums that is too high?

Quote: "btw, i always enjoy checking in on this thread. the slayer always makes me smile with whatever he offers here, but i'm looking forward to someone else working with him on a song or 2"

That comment warms my metalheart! And, I'm glad to make you smile with my music, and best of all...to keep this place rockin'...!

And, yeah...where are all those talented metalfreaks who like to join and make an awesome metalband for this forum??

Mad Nightmare is willing to do the vocals together with me (I guess he still does?), so anyone who likes to contribute (guitarists, bassist, drums, keyboard, pretty women,... ), just say so...

Cheers

Well, I listened to it, and although you're not yet as talented as those guyz from Deaf Havanna, you don't sing bad. In the beginning you sing less good, but you perform better at the end (it's like the song is recorded in two times ?). And, sometimes when you switch from singing to screaming, you kinda scream and sing at the same time, if you know what I mean? Also, I wonder if you would sing better a tone higher (or lower)? And, with songs like these, you should try to get more intonation in your voice (singing AND screaming). With some singing lessons, that would improve a lot.

Cheers

dave mustaine can't sing but he's effective within his own confines. his vocal instrument lends heavy to the overall on every track he's recorded and every cover he's done is definitely his song, in the end, because of his vocals. point here is know what you can and cannot do. stick with what you can and work at it. to quote, "mankind has got to know. its limitations".
