I would like an email sent when someone replies to a forum which I posted in. with the ability for me to shot off any more notifications of more posts to that particular thread.

How about being able to search for people ?

And how about a PDA/WAP friendly version of the site - my Blackberry machine doesn't know what to do with the log-in button...

Searching for people and searching for posts that you've started are the best ideas.

Correct, I might change this in the future but not at the moment. Right now it saves a whole load of un-needed SQL overhead doing it the way I do.

I'd like the last ten posts on the Home Page.

I'd like the people currently online to be in alphabetical order.

I'd like new smilies, these are awful at representing what they are supposed to mean. Like.. a smile looks evil!

Not 'last page'......... have page numbers.

On Home click a reply and go to that exact reply.

Sounds familiar!

"I'd like the last ten posts on the Home Page."

You have the most recent post for each board anyway. This can go somewhere (Devnet home page perhaps) but not the forum index.

"I'd like the people currently online to be in alphabetical order."

Easily done, but why?

"I'd like new smilies, these are awful at representing what they are supposed to mean. Like.. a smile looks evil!"

Nope. I like having unique smilies that aren't ripped from elsewhere.

"Not 'last page'......... have page numbers."

Too messy. I hate forums that do that. How useful is it, I mean do you actually know what's on page 8 as opposed to 12? More useful would be instead of "last page", "last read post".

"On Home click a reply and go to that exact reply."

Probably better to work as above.

Cheers,

Rich

I actually prefer the last 5 posts on the homepage as well. Another feature would be a notification of whether someone is online next to their avatar.

I wrote a reply to a topic, and I wanted to know if that person was still online to answer me. I looked at the online members, and it was a bit confusing.

How about...

Putting the last 10 posts we made, inside our login page, under the forums part(right above the post count).

And is there a way to filter out certain people form seeing BMP img's, cause when i am on 56k, its a f*ck*n mess...

Actually seeing what board has gotten new posts (since the last time you checked it) would be extremely useful, right now the top level view is very unuseful. This would also be logical, as you already present the new posts in blue (on normal board view).

Well, some of us like more of a realtime interaction occasionally. If you want a reply to a question, and it is an important question aimed at a certain individual, like some people ask Raven questions, then you want to see if that person is still online. Also you want to know how busy the site is going to be.

I'd like a "whole word" option for the forum search - I just searched for "plain" and got a bunch of topics with "complain" and "explain" in the title.

How about a button under a users post that takes you to a list of all their codebase entries.

And in the codebase would it be possible to have a .txt download of the code, I am too lazy to copy and paste into a new text document and rename it

How about a word count instead of post count.

Actually it's probebly pointless, but it'd be interesting to see how many words I've posted compared to some people who've posted more than me, yet there posts are usually "lol", or " ".

Would this even be easy to achieve?(Yellow thinks no)

Um,, would take a bit, but using the strlength() (i think thats it) it could be done. So it would be a hard task, but possible

It's not impossible, just not much use (and counting the overall string length isn't the way to do it).

I still think it'd be very interesting to compare. Or maybe we could have a little option on the bottom that shows
-Top Posters
-Longest Active Members
-Highest Word Count
-Points(or if we have some system like that)

Stuff like that may encourage more help around here.

"Top Posters" - Raven
"Longest Active Members" - Raven

How about being able to edit the title of your own post Would be very helpful if you added screenshots, or updated a model. Or if you wanted to say "Updated! Screenshots PG 3!"

Having backslashs ( ) in code snippets would be nice as well

I would also very much welcome the ability to change the name of threads which you started.

For example, in the Work In Progress forum, instead of creating new threads, just rename the old ones.

"MyGame First Screenshots" > "MyGame Beta Screenshots" > "MyGame Pre-Release Beta" > "MyGame Beta is here "

Id like to see a male/female icon under the avatar... I think female DB users should make themselves known. There just seems to be so few of them.

And also, it might be useful to replace the [Last page] thing with [1] [2] [3] for each page of the thread. So say you posted on page 2, come back a couple of days later and its up to page 4, you can go directly back to page 2 and look at the follow up posts.

No, [Last Viewed Page] or something would be beter, where it takes you to the last page that you viewed (obviously) or a [Last Posted Page] where it takes you to the last page that you have posted on, though i think [Last Viewed Page] would be better.

Oh, and the ability to change the name of the threads started by you would be good.

The ability to delete a post that you make (like Edit Post, but it would delete it) for when you post something that you then realise you dont want there. Instead of editing it and having a blank post there.

And, to have Mod-like control over your own threads...
For example, if you start a thread and someone posts something that is irrelivant, then you can hide it (not delete, cos that is unfair). And then have an option available to everyone at the top of the thread like Show Hidden Posts which would show all the hidden posts in a different colour or something.

Having a male/female indicator next to Profile, Email etc would be nice to see.

The star System would be nice.

The ability to view the last threads that you posted in would be good too.

All of the ways of bettering the search that have been mentioned i agree with.

A post count would be good (excluding the General Talk, as RPGamer suggested)

That's my two cents.

Hope I Helped...

Well if your going to hide posts, why have people be able to see them

If the male/female thing was implemented, it would definatly have to be a personal option. Some people may not want their sex released.

Urm, the hide option would be so that if people(s) started to post off-topic and you didn't want them to, then you could hide their posts so others wouldn't see them, and then when a person comes to the thread, they won't have to sift through 10 or so post that aren't related to the thread (if the haven't got time) to get to the end and see if the question has been answered.

And the ability to unhide post would allow them to see the rest of the off-topic posts (if they've got time)

It would also be a good thing for the team requests (if you don't get rid of them) because if someone posts "*Sigh*" or a whole post on how their game is better etc., then you can hide it so others don't have to read it if they are seriously considering the team request...

Hope i cleared that up.

And yes, the gender selector would have to be optional, and if it goes ahead, i suggest using those little circle symbols things (the pink and the blue ones) to represent gender, then in the profile, show it as "Male", "Female" or "Undisclosed".

Those little circle icons were the ones i meant JessTicular, a pink one with the cross for female, a blue one with an arrow for male, and probably a gree one with a '?' for undisclosed.

Following the idea, we should have mod-powers for our own threads. It would be interestening to be able to delete our own threads. Example, if the posts became too much off-topic and we don't like it, or the thread is not needed anymore.
