There should be something to stop people changing they're name too often, like only once a month.

I say "people", I mean "Mattman"

Chris - not a bad idea. Perhaps they become "User X, previously known as Y" (etc etc etc).

Cheers,

I would suggest one more thing :
In The 20 Line Challenge and Code Snippets, you should click a checkbox to say if it's DBC or DBP. Then it will be displayed in front of the thread, so you can see for what system it's meant to be.

But what if you change your name with a spelling mistake? Then you'll end up with a wrong name for a month.

You could request one of the mods to change your name properly for you.
Also, saying that, somewhere where you can request things directly from the mods would be nice, the only problem you might get with that is spamming though.

I would be unstoppable if I could just get started...

Hi Rich,

It makes sense that only you can ban users, however I think it would be useful if mods had the ability to stop users posting / replying to posts for say half an hour or so - it should deter people from spamming or flaming.

(As you can guess, I'm in the middle of deleting many posts from a certain user, who shall remain nameless).

Spoke with Rich on MSN, all users will be able to muffle (ignore) people in future, so this is no longer an issue.

i have a suggestion for the
box

you sould be able to type in [code = "name"] and instead of saying "CODE" on it, it would say "name", that way, if you have a question on your function delcaration and where you call, you could just type [code = "function"] and then [code = "call"] or something like that. i think that would eventually become usefull

What I think should be added to the site is a list where all people on the forums status of availablilty is posted whether they are looking to work in a team or are currently busy in another. The person should be able to edit their status.

when you click the B U and I buttons all at the same time (so it gives you [b}[u}[i} tags) then you want to close b it closes all of em and if you want to close U it closes U and I but its fine with the I

oh, wait. when you close a tag (using the buttons) it closes all of the tags to the right.

Another suggestion: The ability for the link text to be something other than the URL, eg by typing in

Dang Chris, I was just looking for that today.

Thanks

I third that. There is a post in the team request section, but I think it should be mandatory that all users have to at least fill out "looking for job yes/no" at simpliest.

At garage games, they go as far as letting you right your own skills, and summary of experience.

According to rich, we're suppose to all be getting some small amount of space in our accounts though(500 kb?) to host a couple pictures and have a developer diares. Perhaps that looking for work and "List portfolio" option could be there. Might also wanna go as far as adding how many code base entries you've added as well.

Personally, I get even more excited each day as we near 2004. This place truly is gonna be booming with all the alienware entries, physics engine,Update6, and the advancements to the forum.

How about editing the quote box so you can do something like

[ quote="Hamish" ]Hello[ /quote ]

Then it'd come up with something like...

Quote from Hamish: Hello

I got 2 ideas

1. I think is very important. My local time is actually 13 hours ahead of the server time. Could you please change it?

2. I think there should be a FAQ section, and so the mods or someone (maybe eddie from the time-space continum) could put all the very common posts in it.

1st one more important

I was going to put some kind of geek joke, but i can't remember how it goes...

1. you can change that in your forum settings. and are you 13 hrs ahead or 11 behind?

Quote: "What I think should be added to the site is a list where all people on the forums status of availablilty is posted whether they are looking to work in a team or are currently busy in another. The person should be able to edit their status"

yes, and you could have a button under your post (like the Profile, email, MSN, AIM, Yahoo buttons) so people can click it, and it would say (if your looking for someone on your team) what positions you need open, and (if your looking for a team to work with) what position you are looking for.

I think that in the team requests the rules should be big and at the top with a flashing banner.

@Wik: No, that will be very annoying. How about redirecting the person to the rules thread on his first few visits to the team requests board instead?

Is there any chance of a 'Search within threads' function?

I have just spent half an hour looking for a post which I had previously read. Iknew it was in RobK's thread about his GUI plugin but it is 8 pages and I had to read all of it until I found what I was looking for.

Also, on a similar topic: The page numbering system for a thread seems to be counter intuative. This one for example is currently Page 6 of 6 but it is the second 6 that you have to change if ou want to change page - surely it should be the first one.

@Darwin and Rich

I am +8 GMT, and the server is (well, seems to be) -4 GMT (in America, i assume).

You should be able to adjust it to 8 less than the server, and 16 more than the server.

We should be able to get some posts away from "my threads", because they are not of use anymore.
Or at least, have some special notification, so some come on the top and the others at the end.

I think the Team Request forum should be locked, until you're a member for more than 2 weeks. Even two weeks is ridiculously short, but I do understand some people come with sufficient knowledge of dbc on there first day.(A very rare few)That would also stop people from asking questions in the Team Request board also.

Team Request boards are really out of control right now, and I think that needs to be addressed. Just not sure how the best way to do it would be.

Um, maybe just image attatchments. Thats the only thing I could think of we need. And adding the rules to the top wouldnt really do much cause I doubt anyone will actually read them.

Maybe like a Point system. Each post per day gets you 1 point and when you get, say 300 points you get extra features and a secret board or something? I dunno.

What if on the team request forum there was a template you have to follow; where you tell an app how many possitions are availible, what the possition(s) are, and a short description about it. Also there should be a bunch of annoying message boxes that come up if you don't show screen shots With image uploading there will be no excusses
