Quote: "First I don't know why you included the source code!"

As it is an old demo I thought people could learn from it.
Quote: "Second I don't really like the controls especially Mouse controlled camera. I keeps moving when I try to attack!"

Don't move the mouse then. I have no problems with it and neither have any of my friends.
Quote: "Also the enemys take far too long to die."

I think it is only about 10 speed hits or 7 fierce hits. I think it has changed now anyway.
Quote: "Well thats my two cents!"

Fair enough. I thought it was pretty good but hey that is your opinion.
Quote: "See my comments like 3 posts up!"

I didn't know you had edited.

Anyone else going to try it?

Nah, if that was what you thought of it then that is fine. Don't worry. But for those things you said, do you have any ideas to improve on them?
I love the blood and sword effects as well!

The controls were akward and hard to get used to. Perhaps change it to a regular follow camera and only use the keyboard? Like arrow keys and z,x,c,v. Or atleast have the option to customize controls.

And I thought the main character attacked pretty slow. But other than those two things, it was really good.

1. Make the enemys have less life. More like 4-5 hits rather than 10.
2.Im getting used to the controls and I have realised they are fine now

That's pretty funky, though I was getting about 35 FPS. Have you got a delta system in the newer one?

35! Is that all. I was getting around 150FPS. Sometimes even up to 250!

Yeah I get constant 150. What system you got Aura?
Thanks everyone. I just thought the basic track camera was boring but oh well. I'll let you try the latest demo soon so you can comment on that before I change anything.
As for the main character attacking slow, I've been working on a brand new control system which is really cool but is taking a while.

More of an office one. Don't know if you have got that delta thing, but here's one anyway.

Worked nicely man, only a few quarms.
* Definately take 2 long to kill enemies...1-3 hits is plenty with this style of game, keep the common enemies weak and numerous.

* The camera is looking at the character's feet try pointing the camera slightly higher
e.g.
point camera object position x(#),(object position y(#)+20.0),object position z(#)

Other than that really cool...I must admit I didnt get too far as the enemies took too long to kill sorry !

Yeah I must say I thought the attack animations were too slow...
And what did you use to animate your characters?

As I said, I'm working on the control and animations. Animations done in TrueSpace3.2.
I'll make the enemies life lower.
The problem with making enemies numerous is that a the moment it takes the frame rate down too much. The plan I had was spawning enemies behind the camera when others die. Works but having more enemies alive at a time would be good.
Camera is fixed in the latest code.

I noticed that with the slowdown taken into acout, the attacks still weren't quick enough. I found that by continualy using spin attack I was untouchable, but that the finishing move, however cool, took so long that the enemy got up and attacked before the I could finished it. But It sounds like you are working on that already.
Are there ememies with better AI as you go through the game? Because these guys just charged no matter what once they saw you.

In general though, I really liked it, and found the blood effects very cool.

I had the idea of all ideas! Well it is pretty good anyway!
I'm going to combine my two projects. Whilst you aren't in battle then your sword will be sheathed and you control the player as you would in a platformer(jumping, climbing, rope swinging), and when you get into battle you un-sheath your sword and can only move and fight. Getting to work right now.

Nah! Your game looks great and already has some decent media. By the way, if you haven't seen my other project, it was a 3D platformer with jumping (naturally!), stomping to break blocks, collapsing platforms, climbing, switches/cogs/levers, lasers etc.

Okey dokey. I'll do it tomorrow because it is late now.
I've got my new control sytem done; just needs all animations. It stores attacks so if you click 3 times then it will record that and do the attacks in order like in LotR:tRotK. It works nicely and will be great for combos.

I have a new sword trail effect which is much nicer and only takes away 2 fps!

Well sorry for the slackness. I was getting bored of programming (shock horror!) after doing it for at least 6 hours everyday so I gave it a break. I've been playing games rather than making them but now I have the urge to code again so back to work but perhaps more like 4-5 hours a day!

i get the same thing in 3D modelling lol, its was only thursdayfriday I turned lazy, couldn't go oooh I wonder if I could do that, cos I player the classic FFVIII and the Spongebob movie game, but the principle is the same lol

Well personally I would lighten the load on programming, 6 hours is a bit much, I'm sure you got better things to do

Saberdude - Ditto. I've been playing Unreal Tournament, City of Heroes and a few others. Really want to make a 1 player version of City of Heroes with more detailed missions and plot but I should get this finished first!

Quote: "Well personally I would lighten the load on programming, 6 hours is a bit much, I'm sure you got better things to do"

Hmmm...probably! But hey, I'd rather be programming than anything else except perhaps guitar or games so...

Added another animtion and did some more design work. Expect a new combat demo (in zip and rar for those of you that still need zip) soonish.

No, it is true! My life beyond programming is nearly non-existent!

The only things outside of that are sport and my band really!

Well this morning so far I've made the sword flash prettier. I'm now going to build an arena for the combat demo. After that I'll finish off player control and add in some monsters. Then I'll upload it here for you lot to try and comment on. I reckon Friday should be about right.

I used to play at a sort of game room we had during lunch. Cards, ping pong, foosball(tabletop soccer), a limited PC game selection(mostly pinball), snacks and sodas. It was a lounge for one of my classes, if you were in the class you got to use it.

Where's that source code bit at? I want to check it out.

keaz is lucky,

@Saberdude, its because its benefits for anyone who decides to go on to sixth form, its one why to encourage people to go in to higher education, people who have and income of under 30k in england and 6th form get paid by this orgranisation (have to have live in england for at least 4 years) but our income is higher than 30k.

so really sixth formers get it easy, 4 subjects, a lounge, pool room, allowed any music on (some people play stuff teachers in other years never ever let you listen to, like tenacious D f her gently) the person in charge is a chilled out teacher (i know, he taught me IT when my normal IT teacher had to teach maths) and.....theres no bullies (not that I'm bullied any more) in 6th form, so thats what I call the easy life.....then afterwards the tension is on at university lol

I start sixth form in September. Not that I mind a little chat but could we forget the diversion and get back on topic?

Well the new demo is still set to meet the Friday deadline I set. The chap is now in Arena with all normal attacks, movement and camera control.

To add for this demo:
-Combos
-Magic?
-Special attacks
-Enemies (well duh!)

That is about all I can think of at the moment. I tried to make a Fraps vid of the current progress but the sound was out of time in the recording so I guess you'll have to wait for the demo!

Don't worry about it!

There are 3 combos so far:
-Speed combo (3 speed attacks)
-Fierce combo (3 fierce attacks)
-Swift combo (2 speed attacks and 1 fierce attack)
There are more planned obviously.

The sword trail changes from orange to purple flame when you do a combo. In the top left of the screen is a small bar with three boxes. These boxes fill up when you queue up attacks. For instance if you do a speed combo then they will all fill up with 's's. If you do 2 fierce attacks then the end box will be left blank. You get the idea. Once all queued attacks have been carried out the boxes empty. You can manually empty the boxes by clicking both buttons. This means that once the current attack is finished all after it will be forgotten.

The small camera problem I had is now fixed so tomorrow I start on player stats and possibly monsters if I have time. Unfortunately, my parents landed some stuff on me which I have to do tomorrow so I don't know how much I'll get done but the demo may still be up Friday evening.

Here you go:
http://elbsoftware.dbspot.com/Demo/Demo.rar

Controls:
W,A,S,D - Movement
Mouse move - Move camera
Left click - Speed attack
Right click - Fierce attack
Control - Block magic

Explanation:
In the top left corner of your screen is a box with 3 small boxes inside. As you do attacks they will fill up the boxes. You can link moves together. The links you can do are as follows: (l=left click and r=right click)
l - 1 speed attack
l,l - 2 speed attacks
l,l,l - 2 speed attacks and a final more powerful speed attack
r - 1 fierce attack
r,r - 2 fierce attacks
r,r,r - 2 fierce attacks and a final more powerful fierce attack
l,l,r - 2 speed attacks and a very powerful finish attack
Using block magic lasts for a couple of seconds and takes 5 mp. It will knock over all surrounding enemies which is useful if you get caught in a circle of them.

There is still loads to add:
-Experience - the bar is there but doesn't move
-More combos
-More magic
-Pickups
-Other enemies

Please give me all youur comments. It feels like there is something missing (besides the above) but I don't know what.

As an ending joke to this post; you may find some rather large bugs in the game. My advice is kill them! Get it?

HAH! Oh the hilarity
Anyways downloading now...will give my thoughts when I have played it.

OK There is one REALLY annoying thing with this game. The fact that everytime you get hit by the enmy you can't move. Meaning it is very easy to get totally stuck, unable to move when a group of 5 or so satrt biting you and theres nothing you can do about it. I still think they take too long to die as well. Other than that not much has really changed. Oh and I love the flame effects!
