Exeat,
Hehe, its not that you dont have some original ideas, its just that great minds think alike

Peter,
Oh, way to lower my chances of winning.

So thats 3/4 of the games getting cut off. I have an idea. How about, just for fun, we vote for the game we like best (by the screenies), but it can't be your own. I would say Cash has my vote.

P.S. Cash, you're never on MSN. Gotta new e-mail or something?

@Xenocythe - I do appreciate the vote. Hopefully Rich will think so too. I have the same e-mail address, but I just noticed my MSN was turned off. But, if you ever need anything, just e-mail me. I check my us.army.mil one every day. Btw, good quote from a great movie.

@BatVink-
Quote: "The top-end is difficult to reach though and usually features a handful of people who haven't even commented on the compo."

That was actually my plan at first. But, this being my first contest I've entered, I just couldn't help myself. Like a small kid who can't sleep on Christmas night.

I'd love to vote, but I'll need to see more screenshots before I do anything of the sort. It would appear that I have a little time now. Maybe I'll make a second game...

Does it matter that I haven't put sound on any of my games yet. I just figure it's an extra thing that doesn't do much for the actual playing of the game, and since all that rich wants is a working prototype...(I don't have titles either)

Well, I'm sure that no one thing is a deal breaker. However, I put sound in my game to make it more appealing. With 40 games competing, you have to separate yours from everyone elses, however you can.

Well that's not very precise, since you did not specify which time zone, it could be any one of the 24 time zones.

*sigh* i really wanted to enter this compo, and i had a great idea (or at least so i thought)

but there's no way i'm making a game good enough to beat 30 other entries in one day (and finishing up my caiman compo entries!)

Hi rich

Did yuo get my entry? Cause if not don't worry about it I have tryed everything to get it to you in one piece but it wont work.

I'll just have to enter the next compo and hope I can fix the problems.

P.s I think it was mentioned somewhere that this isn't the official game creators competition 2006 (hope not) is this true?

Thanks for your time

[edit] @Rich- is it ok if i submit my game on march 1st? because i've only had today to work on it(my fault because i gave caiman compo priority), and i don't think it's quite ready... (i could submit it today but it would do it it's full glory...)

same here, i really have a bit of polishing... i didn't even have time to look at the graphics provided and see if i could use any...

anyway, here's a screen of my amazingly rushed game
(i uploaded it and sent it a little while ago)

The point of the game is to type the ground(which is made up of words) into existance before the turtle gets there, and if you type too many of the wrong letters then an obstacle is created... that you have to type out of existance (no pic for that sorry)

Here's my last game (and I think my best). Once again, I still need a name, though I'm thinking of using the creative title of Word Racer .

@ Rich and people - My entry is going to be submitted tonight because I couldn't do it last night. I hope noone minds that its going to be 18 hours late . It doesnt help that there's a curfue on my computer usage :/. If anyone objects, then...I'm sorry. I have tried my absolute best to try and get it on time. But I can't undermine my parents' rules. But I have worked really hard on my project.

18 hours is nothing. If your project is righteous, I doubt Rich would care. I don't care. If anyone else cares, it's because they're haters. I'm a competitor - I can't win by forfeit. Good luck.

Phew. Thanks for getting it off my chest. It's just that Rich could always turn around and say after I've submitted my entry: "Sorry, but your entry isn't valid because you didn't submit it before the deadline." :/ :/ :/

I think in this case, because it's a commercial product, they aren't going to dismiss a fantastic entry just because it was late.

You guys might not have been around for some of the past compos, where deadlines were extended by days. The Alienware compo deadline moved every time I checked the forum.

My theory is: as long as you have been awake programming since the deadline, it's still the same day.

I only needed 3 cups of coffee and a Super Big Gulp to finish mine.

Well, sounds like there's some competition. 40 entries at least? Thats alot more than I expected. And I thought chances would be excellent to win this competition because there were 10 winners, and about 5 other competitions going on. Oh well, here's hoping.

Well, in 30mins or so, I will be submitting my entry. Hope its not TOO late :/.

EDIT: Woohoo! Entry submitted. Well looks tidy now anyway. LoL - I let my mum test my game and she wanted to play more! . Woot, this means that it appeals to adults!

Anyway, I will sit and wait. Is it worth to continue coding incase my entry gets picked?

I think it's worth continuing to program it just for the experience and the sensation of finishing it completely! The competition shouldn't be your motivation for programming, hopefully your own enjoyment of it, is.

Haha! Oh, I'll file that right under 'It doesn't matter if you win or lose, the point is to have fun.'

Hey, if it weren't for the competition, I'd have NEVER made a typing game. As it is, I invested MAJOR time and effort into it, as did many others, and put everything else on hold. I'm still on hold. I don't want to get involved in anything else in case I'm to be working on this.

Yeah, I halted all other stuff too, and invested a months game design time into this, And I'm getting anxious for the winner list But even if I am not picked I am gonna finish this and release it for free on my site. So all is not lost and for once I can at least say I finished a game. Not to mention this has probably improved my typing...

Ironically that last sentence I had quite a few corrections to make as I typed it...

The thing is guys, if your games are accepted - TGC will have their own suggestions and ideas for it, so working on them before TGC get back to you might just be a waste of time as they might want to simplify things for example. Really I think that debugging and tidying up is the wise way to spend the time, get the game in ship shape for any modifications TGC want.

Good luck all.

I second VanB on that one. Fixing any corners you cut, hard-coded values that should have been variables, repetitive code that would be better as a function etc... will save you far more time in the long run.

So...<GULP>...have you entered then VanB?

My brother convinced me to give something a try, like 2 nights work basically thrown at TGC . I doubt they'll accept it, it is very rough - but you never know.

Hehe. Well, if Van B has entered...we're doomed! Good point there though - we should fix up our codes to make them neat and easy to understand. Perhaps a bit of brushing up on gfx I guess. Well anyway, I'll be watching this site like a hawk. I think it will take a week or so before all the games are tested. +40 Games...and less than 10 screenies!!!! Quit being stingy everyone!!! .
