Wouldn't that be awesome. Drive through the streets of the Windy City. Go anywhere in the city (including the top of the Sears Tower) and do whatever you want. The map would have to be split into sections because of its enormous size but would include the entire city. Fly planes, drive trains, steal cars (maybe find a Ferrari at McCormic Place). What do you think? Rob banks, break buildings, ramp bridges. It's a massive undertaking but wouldn't it be worth it in the end?

Well, this section is for Dark Basic Classic. A programming language section. You are talking about game design theory, which has a section somewhere..

I have some code already. Working on modeling part of the map. Just letting the community know it's out there if anyone wants to contribute.

@s0l1dsnak3123
Since you already have a GTA remake in the works I guess there's no point in starting a new one. If I have anything to contribute I will just pool it with your resources. Otherwise I will work on my game independently.

Thanks

Driver 2 is an awesome game. I played it all the time before GTA 3 came out. Driver 2 does have "all" of Chicago (mostly the well known landmarks). The city isn't highly detailed but contains all the essentials. That's what I mean by mapping the entire city.

DBC Coding (Though i`m not pro, i know some, but not all, so i wouldnt like to be main programer, only i could perhabs try to help when a problem comms up and such things, maby main menu and so..), A bit of 3d modeling (Static objects such as houses, hills, trees(treegen, so they look good...),Etc,Amateur Music Creating (Maby for radio stations or something simmiliar), 2d graphic design (as i said, main menu).

That is about it.

Edit: Though i have no idea how chicago looks.

I just realized that Google Earth is an excellent guide for mapping Chicago. Check it out if you haven't already.

Is this only for DBC, or is DBP allowed? If DBP is allowed, ill help out with coding.

Well, i like DBC, i have DBP, but would like this project MUCH more if it is done in DBC...

And, i would like to first, with help from all in the team, make a level builder just for our game, so that we can make levels easier.

EDIT: Good idea dodic

I was thinking of using Cartography Shop but Dodic if you want to start work on a level builder go right ahead. But remember we don't want to get sidetracked in other programs because that will just make things take longer.

common people are walking in line.

I don't have Cshop either, but i do have Deled Lite. Maybe we should make a freewebs website just to organize what we are doing?

Not freewebs, we should use www.50megs.com, it gives 60mb`s, no ads, and well, i like it more, you have ftp acces, and you can upload more files at once, great host actually.

Sure, but i dont think we should set it up yet, we should have "something" to show first, ok ?

Ok, so we firstly need some models, i mean animated models such as people, perhabs Dark Matter pack 1.

I'll start on coding the menu after i get a basic layout.

Until i get a menu layout, i'll work on player data.

I have Dark Matter 1 but not Dark Matter 2, which has some cool models I think. What perspective should this game be (first or third person)? What weapons should we use?

@Halo

I was leaning more towards third too but I can see where first would be easier
I'm still going to work on modeling some of the city

Im done with basic player functions, you can now track the position in the level, move the player, check collision(limited), but there is no camera(i'll add that when we all decide).

Here it is(still editing it a little):

DBP and DBC have different speeds at which the player moves, even though they have the same number. You can edit it to however you like it.

why not just make it 3rd and 1st person... maybe a button (P or something) would make the camera swing in front/behind the model. the aim would be rather tricky to code i would think...

[edit] i could help with banners, screen art ect... just a thought [end edit]

We should have 3rd person for character, but when you get in car, you can see 3rd person or 1st person (we would need to model steering weels and other things though, they dont have to rotate, it will still be very nice, i can try making hole in our car models, and adding sears, steering wheels, and hands on them..)

I think we should use sparky`s dll, or as an alternative, we could make our own collision sistem in DBC, sence i`m not sure if every one of us has enchansed.

For the project name, it can't be anything GTA related, because that name is 'copyright'. We could create are own collision system, but it would take longer to get it perfect.

In that case does anyone have any suggestions for a name?
I can go to Chicago and take a picture that we can use on the main menu, not to sure when though.

I also would choose our own collision system. If it's going to be almost exactly like GTA, the name should be something about hijacking, like "Hi-Jacked"

EDIT: Im working on a basic collision system that we can modify.
