I'm in no way a part of this community project, but it warms my heart to see that it will be dedicated to Heltor. I've never had a very big presence around here, but he was surely always one of those valued members that I appreciated seeing around the forums. His generous releases were always fantastic -- and I am genuinely saddened to hear this news although I'm terribly late in finding out. And yes, Cosmic, that would have been a heart breaking email to receive.

Cheers to those contributing to this pack, it's always disheartening when someone close passes away. This community is more friendly than some will give credit for though, and you're all doing a great service in honour of a great friend

Real sad to hear this news. In light of Heltor's past contributions to the community, and a bit belated; I've awarded him "Valued Member" status.

Nope, using PB here. Kinda need it to make a weapon script... or use custom animations.

If you ever find out what the problem is, would you mind emailing me about it? I've been stumped. EAI offered some help and claimed to have seen the animations playing in FPSC, but I haven't been able to.

I really don't know what to say. I counted Heltor as a friend as much as knowing someone through this type of venue will allow. We were both chastised once for carrying a joke too far in someone's thread. We laughed about it and saw it as a badge more than anything else. We shared a military background and as I learned over time, much of the same thoughts and ideals. I can't believe he's gone.

To those he left behind, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I think it would be nice if his name was at least part of the pack name so that we will remember him whenever we discuss, download, or use it.

Brian.

I made this sci-fi model for the pack, for heltor.

It's a simple model, i did this because of the nice quote from Zwarte Piet

Quote: ""I would rather make a bad model, instead of pirate a great one" MY DAD"

It's my way of saying goodbye to Heltor

I liked heltor a lot and I will miss him.
I’m sorry for your loss, and I wish you could have had more time with him too. (I wish all of us could have)

Quote: "Oh, and as far as the date thing goes I'm not sure.

I know Tim is pretty tore up right now though. If it really matters, I'll try and find out the correct date. OK?"

Yeah, I guess the date is wrong, just like I was about the email possibly being a spoof.
I guess it only really matters if the dates of birth and death will be used in the memorabilia.
It would be nice to have the correct dates for such an option, but I guess we can sort that out later after the mourning since most of us are still in shock over the news.

Quote: "As hard as it may be, I guess we need to try and keep the thread on-topic. I'd hate to have it modded for off-topic chat. especialy now. ( Maybe they'll let us slide, just this once)."

A dedication of this pack to him is on topic in my opinion.
I can’t imagine this discussion being deemed off topic.
I’m going to make something special in memory of heltor too.

The handle looks boxy and rather uncomfortable to hold. The weapon being heavier on the back would also probably result in recoil problems and general discomfort. The gradient on that top piece of metal makes no sense, what lighting conditions would there be to create that effect?

And in addition to the scratches all over the surface, add some wear marks to the edges and areas where the gun is most likely to get damaged (Where the player holds it and wherever he hits people with it)

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

Aaagreen: Thanks, I'll work on that.

OK, can anyone tell me what's going on here???

This is the gun with normal map, and shader applied. (bumpent.fx)

This is what happens.

Well, looks like my animation problems had been fixed a long time ago and I didn't realize it! I had starmind export my Milkshape animations, and when I went to see how they came out for him, it acted the same!!! Turns out, I never deleted the .DBO of the weapon model, but after doing that the animations played fine with his export. Something must be wrong with my Milkshape!

Anyway, once the animations were working the script didn't take very long at all to get working, thankfully!

Here's a video demonstrating the suit remote hacking (pun) through 4 different security levels of doors! Each door in the video is progressively harder (requires more key presses to get through).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnLc2Z1BmTY

When the player fires the "weapon" at a locked door (using a special script) the suit goes into hack mode and the player must press the buttons displayed to get through. Pressing a wrong button cancels the hack (thinking maybe a friendly shock might entice them not to mess up ), but get enough right and the door will open!

Weapon script (and hacking) requires project blue, but rest assured the suit remote will still be usable with stock FPSC.

Door script is VERY easy to alter for different difficulties. Changing a single number in the script could make the door require 1 right keypress, or 1000! It's up to you. The ones in the video required 3, 5, 7, and 10 respectively. The suit remote itself shouldn't require any changes, but it has documentation in it if anyone wants to give it a go (I promise it's not very big )

C&C welcome. What do you like, what don't you and how could it be better -- that sort of thing.

Got em!

How does making a version for PB and for vanilla sound? Because I can do more and make it look cooler with PB, but I realize that we also want compatibility with normal FPSC.

Im done animating the pistol.
Zipping up and sending now.

Edit: Anims couldnt be too fancy since there was no clip to work with, they are kind of like the stock blasters anims.

Very nice work guys!

So, this does require Project Blue, or will it work with vanilla?

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

@Conjured:

The hacking is set up with custom animations, a weapon script, and quite a few variables that need PB's variable system. I thought about how this might be done in vanilla, and I couldn't really come up with anything worthwhile. It'd be easy to have the suit open a locked door when used on it (which was the original aim of how the weapon was to be used, the hack mode was something I wanted to do), but I'm afraid the hacking is PB exclusive.

PLY: Man,I really need to get PB. Once Again, I'm slipping backwards by not taking advantage of all the cool features it has to offer.

That looks so cool in the vid, even without the hack, it would still be neat!

1. What about Project Green?

2. If Folks can still use it to open doors, without PB, (without the hacking feature) can you possibly include the script for "that" feature in the release as well?

That way everyone can use it. We can put the two versions in different foders. One for vanilla, and one for PB.

I love Brians' new spacesuit rig, and would love to use it as much as we can. for the pack.

Cp, Send Conjured the suit remote and if he is willing pull one those nice scripts for vanilla.

Also Ply if you rename the firespot it will get rid of that muzzle flash. I renamed mine to SPARKSPOT and that seemed to do the trick.

1. Project Green was built from a version of PB that didn't have weapon scripts yet. So, I would need to find a way of doing it without using a weapon script (more tedious setup, but should still be "doable")

2. Of course. The scripts for vanilla FPSC will be included as well as the scripts for PB.

Quote: "Also Ply if you rename the firespot it will get rid of that muzzle flash. I renamed mine to SPARKSPOT and that seemed to do the trick."

Might not want to use "SPARKSPOT" with PB, since that name is used for the sparks created when blocking bullets. They're named "SPARKSPOT#" where # is any number from 0 to 9. It may not mess anything up without a number, but better to be on the safe side.

I'll take your suggestion, though.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to get the textures on the weapon to export properly... so they're detected in the limb texture name, so PB can apply shaders properly. Not sure how it's texturing the weapon right now, probably using the gun texture in a seperate part of the model, not as a specific limb texture. I wanted to apply an illumination map to the remote, but since it's not detecting the "gun.tga" as a limb texture, it isn't applying any shader maps to it.

The remote itself is texture "gun_D.tga" the suit is "hand_D.tga" so if you are trying to use "gun.tga" that would be your problem. Just make it from the gun texture. I can make one if you like, but I have to go to work right now.

@starmind:

I am using gun_D.tga, and I already have all of the necessary shader maps created, but thanks for offering.

I have an application that tells me every single texture found on the model's limbs and the only one it can find is the hand_D.tga texture. If this app can't find it, then PB won't find it either.

We can talk through email if you would like to help me solve this mystery. I may need you to do another export for me since apparently your Milkshape was the only one able to get my animations exported properly.
